  1. I have also asked about leaving the ship in Genona - they dock early our flight booked with them leaves at 14.15pm - I asked if we will be "Dumped" at the airport early.

Our worst dump in both senses was New Orleans - bussed off at 0930 for a flight at 1730. So much for a day in New Orleans.

Given a flight departure of 1415 I would expect you to be at the airport by 1115. Allowing for bussing I suspect you are looking at a bus departure around 1000. Enjoy your breakfast.

  2. As for the dangers of having a passport stolen in a foreign place, absolutely no one has posted here saying that has ever happened to them. Lots of people post that they fear this will happen. Is this an "urban myth?"

Not to me, but I did have my cruise card lifted in Barcelona.

In Barcelona, one June, the US Consul said they had had to issue 400 emergency travel documents. Our seat companion on the aircraft flying out, a Colin Powel look-a-like, had a very neat little carry-on bag. I mentioned this. It had been given to him by the Consulate as everything had been stolen from his hotel room; they used his suitcases to take his stuff.

OK, not a cruise issue but to illustrate that some places are VERY dangerous for your property.

  3. Hi,

Do not wait until you are on the plane as they are not allowed to sell you duty free booze or tobacco.

    Sue

They were in November on Thomson and the price was very adjacent to the duty free in Barbados.

On board you may buy a 'cabin' bottle and about twice those prices.

  4. I concur with Kevin and would strongly advise against suit carriers. Properly folded you should have no problem packing the suits in a case. In soft suit carriers they will almost certainly suffer creasing.

I used a suit carrier on my last no-fly cruise and carried it on myself!

Regarding the weight limit: it was 23kg + 5kg on Thomson. There is a 20 kg limit for coach transfers.

  5. One thing it wasn't was cold, nor was it particularly hot. At the most it was pleasantly warm. We went for a very pleasant lake side walk in the sun off the mid-stop on the Flamm railway. An Australian couple walked from there back to the ship.

In Bergen it was overcast but pleasant walking or having a coffee.

  6. We have always managed to stay within the limits. We use two medium size cases and at capacity they come in at just under the 23kg. Add in 2x5kg hand luggage and you should have enough. I took snorkel gear in my luggage.

If you take a suitable anorak then you can put selected heavy items - chargers - in a pocket.

  7. If you book a C-deck grade balcony for the large size then you MUST ensure you opt for no upgrade.

A move from C-aft to Riviera, A or B midships is an upgrade.

If you need total shade then go for R or A. If you want partial shade and open then go for C - you can sit under cover during light rain or in the sun as you wish.

If you want a fully exposed balcony go for D - bigger than R, A or B, and they provide an umbrella :)

  8. The commissioning Purser on the Arcadia, in 2005, said that you would love her or hate her. Some would adore the contemporary design and others would regret the loss of a classical decor.

    50-50 would seem about right.

As for kids, well, on our Arcadia cruise we didn't miss 'em. :)

On an August cruise, different line, we missed them with difficulty.

On one occasion as I was moving back off the coffee machine I had to move sharply forward again as mother, in the food line, backed into me. I lifted the coffee cups up and away. This was just as well as her 5 year old son backed between me and the coffee machine. Situational awareness NIL:mad:

On another, mother on pool lounger but adjacent to the fore and aft pathway, son, about 3-4, backs up to other side of pathway. At the instant that I start through the gap - yes drinks (cold) again - son launches forward right under my tray.

Next time I think I shall just throw the tray in the safest direction and roll the other way to avoid the ankle traps. When mother gets soaked :D

And so on. No young children in Jaccuzzi? Admiring grannie allows charming youngster to go snorkelling in it!

  9. Celebrity would at least replace the bearings in both pods while the ship was in dry dock.

I have not followed this thread but it is interesting what you said here. We thought the Connie was particularly quiet. In our cabin deck 7 port midships forward you could have been in a very quiet hotel room. last couple of days in the buffet aft one passenger commented that there appeared to have been a slight increase in vibration and increased noise level on the starboard side.

On every leg we were doing near 19 kts all the time except when slowing for navigation.

    Pod bearing?
