JetBlue have unkindly brought our departing flight forward to 11.20 on a Friday, in May.

Our ship is due to arrive in Port of Miami at 07.00. We are fairly familiar with the port having been lucky enough to use it twice recently. On the last occasion, we took an Uber to MIA, but in May, we need to get to FLL for an 11.20 departure.

We intend self debarkation, to give us more time, and then getting an Uber to FLL. We have looked at alternatives, but they don’t seem to be any. What do you all think?

How far is FLL from POM and what is the estimated travel time?

also, realistically what would be the earliest you could self disembark if all went well and ship arrived on time ?

I agree that for small children a Deluxe Oceanview (category 5 or 6) veranda cabin would be fine. The Deluxe Family (category 4) veranda cabin will have slightly more space by the veranda and may have a bed that drops from the wall in that space. When the dropdown bed is open, though, access to the veranda is limited.

From the deck plans for the Wish, it appears that Category 4 cabins don't connect to Category 5 cabins.

So, unless neither of the kids can/would use the upper bunk, I'd go with the Deluxe Oceanview.

Good points and thanks for the feedback

  3. Just in the research phase for 2 to 3 years when my wife and I take our son, dil and 2 children (current ages 2 & 4 - boy & girl)

On a 4 night Bahama cruise out of Port Canaveral on Disney Wish.

Would it be too crammed for the family of 4 to stay in a Deluxe Oceanview with Verandah (Cat 05A) or would it be better to upgrade to Deluxe Family Ocean View with Verandah (Cat 04A) ?

Also, if we want connecting cabins do they both have to be the same category or can you get a Cat 04A beside a Cat 05A) ?

    TIA …. Dave

The better idea might be a hotel in the Ft Lauderdale area, then a shuttle (many recommended here frequently) to the port the next day. Make sure you get a hotel on the shuttle pick up list. Much cheaper.

I would have done that but have stayed numerous times in Fort Lauderdale pre cruise and this is first time sailing out of Miami so we wanted to see a bit of that city.

What do you mean you don't have Uber or Lyft?? Its an app on your phone..easy to get.

I have never used the app and I do not have data on my phone just use wifi. As a result May have issues contacting Uber/Lyft drivers.

Also concerned as a few other posts have mentioned difficulty tracking down their driver

  6. We arrive at FLL terminal 1 on Sun March 10 @ 2:30 pm.

I got quotes back from 2 transfer companies for $140 and $160 respectively.

I used the taxi fare finder and it says $70 to $85.

A shuttle would be ideal and affordable but we arrive too late to take them.

Has anyone else just grabbed a taxi at airport to downtown Miami ? If so, when and cost ?

    TIA …. Dave

that really depends. We were there in April, and uber from POM to FLL was more than $120 each way (3 of us). Must have been "peak time".

I just received 2 quotes for transfers from FLL airport to downtown Miami on Sun March 10/24 @ 4pm. The 2 quotes for 1 way only were $140 & $160.

Do not have Uber or Lyft so wondering what a taxi would cost ? Taxi Fare Finder said between $70 & $85

    Take the Brightline instead.

Uber pickup is a PIA because it isn't where other cars can go.  If the airport is busy, and it is always busy, it is a nightmare to even try and find your ride.

After being cancelled by multiple Uber, we just hop in the cab line.

  9. Wondering if anyone has used Park and Jet parking at the Crowne Plaza on Carlson Court 6 minutes from airport. Shuttles 2x per hour on the hour and 1/2 hour. Gated o/s parking for 8 days at $80 + HST.

Also Tropical Airport Parking at the Hilton Garden Inn at 3311 Caroga Drive Mississauga. This is a US Company and payable in US funds@ $92.09 US or approx $129 Cdn.

Any feedback positive and negative appreciated.

Porter's flight times have evolved since the time of that August post. We have a direct flight FLL - YOW that departs at 4:30 PM. No need to stay overnight.

That’s good !! I checked last month for FLL and only return flight was 8:30 am.

Return flights from FLL and MIA to YYZ depart at ~08:40. I guess Porter is not interested in attracting cruise passengers.

The savings could be enough to stay over and fly out next morning if you have the time.

In February 2023, we flew Toronto to Fort Lauderdale , took a cab from airport to hampton Inn South Blue Lagoon Miami for $80.    Hotel had offsite shuttle to port in the morning.    After cruise we took cruiseline bus transfer back to Fort Lauderdale airport.   Even after cab and bus transfer we saved $300 on our airfare.   We chose taxi because local transfer companies did not pick up at fort lauderdale airport after 4 pm which was when our flight arrived.

$80 for a cab from FLL to Miami is a good price. Did you book ahead of time and if so with who or did you just take a cab outside departure area ?

Doable but not risk free. You might want to look at changing flights/airlines to either fly out of Miami or fly later out of Fort Lauderdale. As I understand the current regulations, if an airline makes unilateral changes to your itinerary, you are entitled to decline the change and insist on a refund.

We will only fly non stop and not as many options in/out Miami as Fort Lauderdale + a lot higher in cost. West Jet’s email told me I could accept change / modify it or get a full refund. I may call their customer care # since they are partners with Delta to see if I can fly with them if it suits.

  14. We are scheduled to arrive at Port if Miami on Thur March 21/24 at 7am.

We originally had a 3:20 pm non stop flight with West Jet from Fort Lauderdale to Toronto but just got an email today and they have changed the flight to 12 pm on the day we disembark.

If we self disembark and have a transfer to Fort Lauderdale Airport is our 12 pm flight doable ?

The only other non stop West Jet flight that day from Fort Lauderdale to Toronto is at 9:30 pm.

    TIA

Yup, that’s why you have to decide when you want to ask for the FCC.  If you wait too long, your cabin category could be sold out and then you won’t qualify for the FCC but if you request it too early, the price could further drop and you won’t qualify for another price drop FCC.  Personally I’m happy if I get any FCC even if the cruise price further drops.

That’s fine if you’re going to cruise with NCL within the next year as that’s all the FCC is good for.

Personally I think NCL does this by design as they have a cash flow issue since Covid and do not want to reduce the price prior to FP but rather do it after in the form of a FCC and hope you come back.

Admittedly, I have not read through the entire thread, but unless someone knows better, I’d say their ships have to file some sort of itinerary well in advance of sailing. If for one reason or another, they need to change that itinerary, I would imagine they have to file the change of plans.  So, to answer the question, I don’t think they post itineraries Willy-Nilly!   Those itineraries can and do change, for a variety of reasons.

If they were doing the itineraries which would get more bookings, just say every cruise is going to Tahiti  and then change the destinations after the bookings have filled?

The Prima did have our itinerary posted well in advance. They showed Geiranger, Norway and Isafjordur, Iceland as tender ports but the Prima does not tender ???

We were fortunate in Geiranger we were the only ship in port and got to use the sea pier. Not as fortunate in Isafjordur as the dredging on the extended dock was not done and we basically had a sea day as we arrived in Akureyri @ 6pm instead of next morning @ 7am.

A little misleading on NCL’s part if the Prima does not tender and they show it as a tender port.

I have to disagree. I have a cruise that is still 545 days away and we booked 3 months ago. Have you ever cruised on a different line? All cruise lines I have ever sailed have this same policy. It is not just NCL.

We have 6 cruises booked right now and all were booked early. The price on our cruises have done nothing but gone up.  I sure wouldn't want NCL charging me more because the cruise went up.

You booked at a price you were comfortable with therefore if I were you I would not be checking again after final payment if it is going to upset you that the price went down.

Our cruise this past June 4 on the Prima went down $1,800 for the cabin after final payment and our TA applied for a FCC.

She did get one for us for $1,800 and it is a one time adjustment. 2 weeks later the cabin was reduced another $1,000 but got nothing for that.

    Hi all

We are taking 2 cruises in Nov/Dec, one around the Med and Israel, the 2nd a TA back to FLL. We have a couple of choices for the flight home the day we disembark (Dec 8). I am wondering how long it will take to clear Customs when we get back?

Any recent experience with this you can share? We will walk off the ship at 7 am (or whenever they let us), then cab to FLL. One flight is at 10:00 am and the other at noon. We really want to take the 10 am flight but we're worried the Customs check will take so long we won't make it. The 10 am flight gets us home at about 2:30, and only a short time between flights. The noon flight would have us killing time in the HOU airport for 4 hours, so not ideal 😉

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Thanks.

You mentioned not a lot of time between flights. You need to factor in that issues arise causing delayed departures thus missing connection. Play it safe and take later flight even if you have a 4 hour layover.

If you've recently taxied from Port of Miami to FLL Airport, what was the cost?  Last year, when we did a repo cruise from Boston to Miami and flew out of FLL, we were with 5 other people and I arranged transportation from Larry's Limos.  However, this Oct., it will be just my husband and myself who need transportation.  We would have purchased the transfers through Celebrity, unfortunately, it is only good for flights departing after 12:30 p.m.  Unfortunately, our flight departs at 12:25 p.m.

I received a quote from MJS Transportation for a shared ride from POM to FLL airport for next March 2024 at $20 pp
