I have asked this before but did not get any response so I will ask again in this thread. Booked a gty and got assigned to a veranda state room under the bridge on deck 10 forward on Vista.  Has anyone had any experiences staying in a cabin under the bridge, will that be noisy at night?

We were upgraded to a veranda state room under the bridge on Insignia many years ago. We didn’t find it noisy at all. The worst thing was the movement on the Bay of Biscay, only time in 32 cruises that I’ve ever been seasick, thankfully it only lasted a few hours! One thing that did happen that was quite amusing, I received a phone call from the bridge politely informing me that I needed to close the curtain as the light from the cabin was affecting visibility from the Bridge! There is actually a sign in the room asking to close the curtains on an evening if you have lights on. It was toe curlingly embarrassing!!😂

I wonder which it will be.  I have a Plan B land option in place but I need confirmation before I move forward.  I hope Friday brings clarification because it's getting a little stressful.

I agree, just want to know that it's cancelled so I can make a new booking. Hate this hanging about waiting.

It was a very easy walk on a flat path.  The bus did all the work taking us up there.  However, I did not go up the tower.  The fit few who did enjoyed the view, but said it was narrow on the stairs up.

The previous gardens had a much longer series of paths, with a steepish gradient in two or three sections.  Unfortunately we were rushed along in parts, and many of us slower people missed some of the guide’s commentary.  I was also recovering from a foot injury and had not taken my hiking stick that day, so I just took it slowly and managed quite well.  Pausing to look at the view always helped to regain stamina! 😆.  You should be fine.

Thank you for your quick reply, much appreciated.  I have realised it's the tour that includes the Angelito trail hike as well (there are two, one with and one without) I've done a little research and I think it will be fine. the tours were booked before I had the accident and the alternative one which doesn't do the hike, is fully booked. I could inquire onboard but I think I will just go for it ...and hope for the best!! Worst case scenario, I'll take in a scenic view sitting on a rock until they return! 🙂

I very much enjoyed your trip report btw, very informative!

The next stop was further up the mountains to La Coca Falls and the Yokahu Tower.  The tower never fulfilled its original purpose as a military lookout, but certainly has a good view from the top.

The falls were pretty tame today, but can wash across the road after heavy rain.  It was a delightful area to visit.

Hi, can I ask how strenuous is the walk, as in how many hours and is it over steep gradients? I am normally very fit and healthy but I had a leg injury about three months ago and although I'd say I'm almost back to full recovery, I'm just wondering if this excursion will be for me.

some got OBC to stick with cruise, and others could put the money towards a future cruise like you. others like me received nothing, so it was go or loose everything.  so unfair how Silversea handles reservations in different regions and cabins. we are arriving in Athens tomorrow.  I am going to sign off with this feed.  wishing you all well for future cruises.

Thank you for keeping us informed with what is happening onboard. I wish you safe onward travels.

A lot of fuel burned with no revenue. Airlines can swap planes can SS swap ships ?

I think it has been mentioned about Silver Moon swapping itineraries with one of the other ships but one of the issues I could see would be, what does the Silver Moon do for the next four months until the weather improves in the Med? I’m not sure what itineraries would be attractive in that region until later April?

  7. A little research by my other half I’ve added below!

As a future cruiser on Silver Moon I have been following with interest the progresss over the last fortnight. It now appears likely that Silver Moon will be repositioning Athens to Mumbai around the Cape.
A little bit of research I have done might shed some light on the logistical issues surrounding Silver Moon repositioning .   Assuming a 1200 departure 16 Jan and an early morning arrival 0200 on 11 February in Mumbai, that is 25 days, 10 hours or 610 Hours (including time zone changes)
Usings Ports.com website it calculates the Sea route · Port of Pereaus to Walvis Bay, Namibia: 6928 nautical miles. (A midpoint stop) and Walvis Bay, Namibia: Port of Mumbai, India 6322 nautical miles.  Total distance 13250
13250nm in 610 hours requires an average speed of 21.7kts.
Fincantieri the shipbuilder website quotes a service speed of 17 Kts with a max speed of abt. 21.0 kts. Therefore, it will be a real challenge to get to Mumbai for the cruise to Singapore departing even without additional stops for fuel. At an average 17kts it would take 32 days.
These non expert calculations demonstrate the considerable challenges for Silversea staff.    There will doubtless be many other factors needed to be considered but a little patience will be required for an achievable plan to be agreed with all agencies before they can inform guests.

When I go to my bookings on the Silversea website it says booked, the cabin says WL but I've noticed that it allows me to book excursions, restaurant reservations and such.  Should I go ahead and choice all that or would you think that might jinx me?

I’d go ahead and book your excursions, restaurant reservations etc. I can’t see them cancelling your trip due to a lack of a cabin, if they’ve taken a deposit, I’m pretty sure you’ll be on that cruise, there are always cancellations.

I booked the lowest cost cabin on an April sailing and am waitlisted.  There are many more expensive cabins available.  Will others be upgraded creating openings of the lower cost cabins or do I just have to hope that someone will cancel?  At what point should I just give up hope of getting the cabin category I put a deposit on?

We booked a lowest cost guarantee and just received a three category upgrade to a superior balcony. We are two weeks away from our sailing and the cruise has been waitlisted in all categories so we were surprised to get a higher allocation.

Nice to know that you’ll be in the best possible hands for your flight to Barbados!  Haven’t met a cruiser yet that was fortunate to have a family member be piloting their flight .  Enjoy the cruise, and the flight !

Thank you! It’s pretty much a family profession… both sons are pilots, their Dad is a pilot and his Dad was also a pilot. Time for some different careers for the next generation I think! 😂

  11. My husband and I are planning to request as to the availabity of having our son join us as a guest for a few hours on embarkation day. He is a pilot for BA and will be flying us out to Barbados for our upcoming cruise and we thought it would be fun to have him join us on the Silver Dawn for a visit. My query is, with a boarding time from 2pm, do we request for him to join us for lunch or dinner? Can anyone let us know what the lunch options are please or when the restaurants close for lunch? We are new to SS so would appreciate anyone that can enlighten us. Many thanks.

  12. That's correct, tea, coffee, water and some squash type juices are available for free in the buffet area 24/7. In cruises from Southampton there is also a kettle available in your cabin with teabags and coffees etc provided. If you're not a big drinker, you can definitely get by with what's available without the drinks pacakage.

We are also on that cruise March 2024

    thanks

Hi Bitob,we're actually on the May cruise not the March one but it is the Mumbai to Athens itinerary. I've done lots of cruises but I'm new to Silversea.

We did Mumbai to Athens on the Spirit in March this year

There is such a thing as a maritime visa which is especially for cruise passengers and valid for 4 days, $29 US , including the mandatory insurance.

The application is fiddly but we got there in the end.It was also issued just a few days before we arrived in Jeddah.

We're doing the same trip next year, thanks for the info. Did you write a review or have any other information/tips at all?
