  1. Sailing on Magic out of Port Everglades in August. We also do self-assist. My problem is they ask you to be off the ship so early! I’d like to have time to grab breakfast first. What are the breakfast options?

Additionally, Anyone know what time they have been letting FTTF on the ship?

  2. We’re considering renting a golf cart too.

Where is the rental area? Inside the terminal or outside the gates?

I read on Wet Money’s site they say go to the taxi stand - where exactly is this?

    wetmoneyent.com

    Is a reservation really necessary?

Based on reviews, that’s where all the negative feedback is related to. I’d rather not give a deposit and just try our luck of showing up early.

(This is our 6th visit to the island. We’ve done many of the tours offered. Looking to try something new. We rented a golf cart in Key West and our kids really enjoyed it.)

  3. We had a very difficult time finding traditional chicken tenders. The good chicken tenders found on the buffet on other ships are not available on the Horizon buffet - we inquired.

The BEST chicken tenders are found in the steakhouse. My son loved them! They were good quality chicken in a traditional fried batter.

My son had nuggets in the MDR, they were nothing special but he was happy to find them.

The room service chicken tenders are not child-friendly. They were very spicy with a dry rub. My kids refused to eat them.  However, the room service fries were a huge hit! They were incredibly crispy and hot. They were definitely worth the $2 for a large basket full.

Thanks, everyone... looked and I see the reservations now.  I knew the steakhouse was there, but never thought to look for the others there too.

So, next question I guess if anyone knows.

Horizon on May 26th.  out of Miami.  Day at Sea, Ochios Rios and Grand Caymen, Cozumel, Day at Sea.... any idea what days we are looking at for Formal Nights?

I just sailed that itinerary. Formal nights were first Sea day and Grand Cayman.

keep in mind the on board time in Cozumel is late 6:30 pm.

Sailing on our first of the mega ships in 3 months - the Horizon.  Quick questions on the specialty dining (sushi, Asian, Italian, BBQ, etc). please (first time for us).

    1. Do you need to make reservations for these restaurants or is it first come?  Steakhouse yes, reservations are needed. We saw two families get turned away from the podium as the restaurant was booked. The other restaurants you can make a day in advance. JiJi was never busy and was always a same day option.

    2.  If you make reservations, is it advisable/or can you make them early in the cruise to assure a place?  If so, where do you make them at? In your cruise manager online. It says specialty dining reservations.

    3.  I believe I have seen there is an "upcharge" for these restaurants, is this so?  Yes, $38 steakhouse, $15 Italian My son and husband dined at Teppanyaki it was $75 for two.

    4.  Is it like the steakhouse where you if you do pay, it is a set price and then you order, or is it like a regular restaurant where you pay for each item you wish to order?  Any examples of such cost appreciated - I am familiar with the Seafood Shack and Pay Sushi on other ships such as the Conquest. One price, three courses.

    5.  Do any of these locations on the Horizon have a special dress code (excluding the steakhouse, I am aware of the dress code here)? They all follow the main dining room dress code. On formal nights, the dress code is Formal. On casual nights, they are all casual. Only steakhouse requires men to wear pants on casual night. Others dress shorts are permitted.

    6.  Is the Bonsi Sushi the only place to get sushi on board?  I love it but husband hates it, and would like to be able to get it (like on other ships), where you just order and take away since he is not going to want to sit down to a "meal" with me in a restaurant setting.   - BBQ place too, eat in only or take away?  Hubby doesn't care much for that either lol, but I love me some good BBQ. Not sure as I don’t eat sushi. BBQ is available on deck 5 on embarkation day and seadays. The pay menu is available lunch and dinner everyday.

Any help is appreciated, even after all our cruises this will be a new experience we are much looking forward to it.

PS:  Know it is not food related, but want to try the sky bikes too.  Do you reserve this?  If so in advance or what - if anyone reading these questions about the food knows. Our sailing last week the sky ride was down for maintenance. We were told it would not be available the entire cruise but we saw them running on our last seaday. We didn’t get a chance to try it.

FTTF allows you to take all guests staying in your cabin with you registered to that room. Other guests are not permitted. They want them to purchase the privilege as well.

4 of us had FTTF, 8 total in our group. They let all 8 on the FTTF priority tender last week.

Another option is to befriend people who have priority tendering. Each Diamond, Platinum, or FTTF is allowed to bring five non-priority passengers on tenders with them.

Is this correct that FTTF can bring guests? I know platinum and diamond can, but never heard FTTF mentioned before.

Does anyone know how FTTF priority tender is currently working on the Horizon?

On our trip one of our group was nicely asked for their family to change into long pants.  They even said jeans are fine, but no shorts.   I would either get pants, or my youngest prefers to eat with the camp that night 🙂

    Thanks.  I”ll grab some pants.

He wants to go. He said the chicken tenders served in the fancy bowl were the best! Haha

Dumb question......how to we make reservations for the specialty dining?

In your cruise manager or the Hub App, you will see a link to specialty dining reservations.

If you were only going to dine in one of the Horizon’s extra charge specialty restaurants, which one would you choose?   We will be on the ship next week with our family, which includes grandchildren aged 5, 7, and 9.

We dine in all of them, with our children. My youngest was 10 when we last sailed on the Vista, his favorite meal was in the steakhouse. He loved how his chicken tenders were served so grand in a goblet. He raved they were the best chicken tenders ever.  So of course, we’re returning to the steakhouse this cruise so he can have his tenders again!

He also enjoys the Italian restaurant, which is a last night tradition for us.

Carnival will not split up children from parents.  When we sailed with two rooms (balcony and inner stateroom directly across hall) with our three under 18 children, I only purchased one FTTF.    The only difference it made to our 2nd cabin is that it wasn’t ready, so we stashed all our luggage in the room attached to the FTTF.

So, you shouldn’t have to purchase two FTTF’s.

And it was completely worth it to us....passed up long embarkation lines (Galveston) no lugging around carry-ons, first in line at Customer service when other non-priority line was 20 deep, among first to tender to Belize.  With my wonderful but notoriously impatient hubby, it was gold and made a huge difference to our trip.

    Yes yes yes!

    Exactly what she said!

yeah.  is it worth the 180 bucks?  we have 2 rooms.  connecting ocean view rooms.  Also what is the earliest you can board these days?  I remember 8 years ago (ironically on facebook the memories popped up with memories from 9 years ago today) we could get onboard around 1.

You should have stated you were booked in two room in your first post. That changes things. No, I would not pay double for FTTF.  Is it worth it? That’s the most popular question posted. To each his own. For my family, it is. We buy it every sailing and enjoy all the benefits.

So i'm wondering about FTTF and it being worth while.  Doing a Saturday cruise out of Miami.  Is the port fast?  Its been a few years since i've done a cruise.  This time we will have 3 little ones 1, 3,  6.   Wondering if its worth while to be able to get the rooms early so they can do their afternoon naps.

All ports are ports with docks, but it will be hurricane season so that could obviously change.

We like having it. Your room is guaranteed to be ready upon arrival. We like going straight to our room dropping off our carry-ons before heading to lunch.

I like to put my water and soda cans in the fridge, too.

We just like knowing our room is available for us whatever our plans are upon arrival.
