I see a number of folks wondering if this is going to be a "free" option like Perfect Day or Labadee.

There is no way this would ever happen in Cozumel. The local government and tourism boards would not be praising something that would essentially have a major negative impact on Paradise Beach, Mr. Sanchos, Nachi Cocom, etc. This is a new beach resort just like the existing ones, except owned by Royal Caribbean, and by the way, they own a bunch of other businesses at every port you stop at.

Not to mention the fact that to be like the private islands, they would have to build a new cruise dock. Not gonna happen, given the enormous investment they already have at the existing port facility.

I can’t imagine it happening either for the reasons you stated.

The other destinations such as Labadee, Costa May and Coco Cay did not have established activities, restaurants and tourist activities that Cozumel offers. This new idea would be in direct completion for all the island and the people.

We will not be going to the new destination. We will go diving with the same folks as always and enjoy the wonderful restaurants, shops and wonderful people on the island.

I was happy to see Voyager back to a location/date we can sail on her again.   She was our first cruise in 2006 and got us hooked on cruising.   We love the Voyager class and it will be perfect for this 5 day itinerary that we did last year on Mariner - PC to Labadee and Coco Cay and a couple of sea days! Now off to look for what has changed since 2006.  Did they do away with the fountain urinal in the men's room near the WJ?   Off to read recent reviews and youtube!

    Great story!

  3. It's amazing how people can have total opposite experiences on the same ship. We sailed on Grandeur a couple of weeks ago and had a fantastic cruise. We thought the ship was in good shape and the crew was fantastic.. Granted, she is an older ship and she is worn but, I think it adds character. We did not see or notice some of the things that the OP showed in their pictures. I guess we were having too much fun to notice all of that.

    I'll sail on her anytime.

I'm sorry that you had a bad cruise.

From what we have seen on our recent cruises (B2Bs in July (Wonder), September (Grandeur), and October (Mariner)), IMHO the bubble has already burst. On Mariner, you could count on at least 3 different announcements from the cruise director each day hawking the spa, the shops, future cruises, excursions, or dining. Watching the passengers both on board and in port, there was a lot of wandering through the shops, but very little purchasing going on.

We got off Ovation on the 15th after a 9 day cruise and we also noticed that all the shops were empty during the whole cruise.

We're not WJ regulars but the times we've had dinner there usually it was below half capacity and there was no need to make announcements. I have no problem with the MDR food but the noise level in there reminds me of Wright's Farm (Rhode Islander reference).

I'm right there with you. We've never heard an announcement in the WJ in the evening. It's much quieter than the MDR and faster.

I love this site for learning new things!!!!!  I always thought that you got your status "after" the cruise you achieved it on .  We're sailing this August on Explorer OTS and on that cruise we hit Pinnacle (701 points, finally 😅).  I guess we'll receive the actual Pinnacle "benefits" on the following cruise which is when I assumed you'd get your rewards, which for me, that cruise will be on the Serenade for a 13 night Panama Canal cruising in September.  And, truth be told, I never knew you got a Pineapple Cake and wondered why all Pinnacles were called "Pineapples"; duhhhhhhh 🤣

We are exactly in the same spot. We will be at 701 after our Liberty cruise and will be on the Serenade Panama Canal cruise with you.

  7. Not on Voyager but, we had one on Radiance on the top end part of the complete circumnavigation of Australia just before the shutdown. The air conditioner decided to start acting up and it got extremely hot in the room due to the angle that the sun could shine in the cabin. We almost went to the solarium to sleep because it was way to warm in the room. We sure were glad when the second leg started and we got to change rooms. Other than that, it as ok. Like others said, it was a long walk to the back of the ship but, it walked off some calories. 😉
