To those above --- time for a follow up. Checked in, cabin was definitely more spacious then your typical cabin. And, although the deck plan did not show it, the cabin also had a bump-out section as well.
HOWEVER -- the noise in this cabin at night when we were going full speed was unbearable. I got about an hour sleep in total, even after I had gone to the front desk at 2am for some ear plugs.
As the engines revved, the room would vibrate and it sounded like sleeping inside a Harley Davidson. Everything shook. To give you an idea, when the engine revved (as it did about once every other minute), you could not hear the television.
I went to the head of Guest Relations the next morning. Her name is Christal. At first she wasn't sure what to do because they were booked solid. However, she then remembered that the Future Cruise Consultant, who had her own cabin, is married to the Cruise Director and doesn't use her cabin. So after a quick phone call, and a quick clean up by the cabin steward, we were moved to another inside cabin (1947)
I told Christal I realize some cabins are louder than others. But I've been on fifteen cruises now and I have never experienced anything like that noise and vibration. I can't believe (or maybe I can) that HAL would continue to sell that cabin to unsuspecting passengers. They must go through that issue every cruise. Even if the passenger were deaf, they could not ignore the entire cabin shaking.
So there it is...my update. And if any HAL corporate sales people are reading this. Please turn that cabin into a storage room or something. It's not fit for sleeping in.
I have a guarantee booking for Christmas, at least now I know which cabin I'll be staying in:p

Must be talking about Gary Walker, kinda short guy
He was partially responsible for hooking me on cruising.
(although that was my first cruise)

They stand out depending on the ship's activities in which you participate. Many people don't play games, do pool activities, or go to the show lounge and lead a relatively quiet life on the ship with just themselves or family and friends- having dinner, enjoying a drink in a lounge, reading or resting on their balcony or the Prom Deck, etc. There have been cruises that when we got off I wouldn't have recognized the CD, known his/her name, or had any idea if they were really good or really bad. Yet we had a fabulous time as always. ;)
I've never done a single ship activity ie bingo, trivia, dam dollars, building a ship. I was thinking the other day "What Do I Actually Do On The Ship?"
Don't know don't care. I only know I want to keep doing it:D

That was Gary on The Volendam almost 7 years ago. The others don't even come close. I coudn't even give you the names of the other cruise directors on my other nine cruises.
Then again,I simply don't have my act together. I don't even know the name of my beverage manager on my cruise in 2014.

John, the photos and information you have posted on this thread are like catnip to those of us who love ships and their history. I wish there was a way to bundle all of the ships' stories and pictures into one big reference. I would turn to it often, and take it with us on our cruises for sure. Of course, this is a living conversation that may never end, if we're lucky. I would love to see you publish all of this work, but now I might be violating some CC policy. :o What are your thoughts?
Perhaps a website for all this interesting and valuable information. You'd definitely get traffic,it's great stuff.
Super job John
Thanks

My wife and I are both 45. We prefer traditional dining. We just went on 2 Princess cruises, and this anytime dining just isn't the same.
There's really no rapport with your waiter,it's more or less get em in and get em out.
The part that bugs me is,why should people be assigned this if they don't want it? For those who love anytime dining, and it fits their schedule and needs that's great, but why be saddled with it when you don't want it (this is what Princess did)
Going to dinner was always an "event" and we always looked forward to it.
We have now booked 2 Holland America cruises for next year
Like Chris Daughtry sang "I'm Coming Home"
Bicycles on board?
