  1. How long do you have to hold stock before claiming the OBC? And can you only do it one time?

You just have to show you own it when you request the OBC. You can claim it every time you cruise. Unlimited amount of times.

  2. Anyone have any experience or knowledge? I know inflatable pools are not allowed but what about an inflatable baby bathtub? They are about 12x18".

We took one like that a few years ago when our granddaughter was a year old. Only used it on our balcony. I doubt it would be allowed on open decks.

  3. I did really well on the Elation. I hit $1000 on one machine on Friday afternoon and then cashed out another $1000 that night from various bonus rounds (all on penny machines). Came home ahead!!

Good Job Pam! Congrats on the winnings.

I came in second in BJ tourney and code for the sailing on the Magic for the big tourney was PBJ.

  4.

We have FTTF but also signed up yesterday for 10:30 to 11:00.

Thanks for taking up an early spot even though you don't need it. Thoughtful and considerate of you. More demonstration of the 'me' sense of entitlement.

    Nice response Stolid...

We are Platinum and did the same thing. REASON: I plan to arrive at that time and want them to know it and be staffed for it.;)

  5. What are the Chances...????

I think there are two, Slim and None at this point. (And Slim has moved to Texas as the old saying goes.)

There were many factors in them leaving Mobile. Cost per cabin was almost always lower from Mobile than NOLA. I much preferred sailing form Mobile myself.

Another is (as mentioned) the size of the turning basin just up from the terminal. Any ship larger than the prescribed size would have to either back into or out of the terminal about a mile or so... NOT going to happen on a regular basis. The Fantasy class ships with CCL are the largest that can dock there. (Fantasy, Elation, Ecstasy etc.)

Another factor is that NOLA has a contract with CCL and Mobile did not. Why? Who knows?! Mobile left it very easy for CCL to pull out with no penalty. And no incentive to stay. In NOLA they run the 4/5 day boat and a 7 day boat out of the same terminal and use the same personnel. Much cheaper for them Im sure than 2 terminals and sets of personnel.

  6. It seems according to the original poster the circumstance is costing Carnival in lost revenue not refunds. Carnival is giving passengers on board credit which goes against their profitability for the cruise in question and offering a discount for a future cruise. This will also generate lost revenue compared to these people paying full price for a future cruise. Of course, not all of these people will use the future credit and some that would not have been able to pay the money to cruise again anytime in the next few years may now be able to, which in turn has a positive influence on Carnival because once those people are on board, Carnival is hoping they will spend enough money on drinks and other on board items to make up for the discount. If nothing, they got the people back on a Carnival ship and may be able to hook them on cruising their line from now on, so that would be a bonus to Carnival as well.

It is give and take, but I think Carnival is making a good, albeit unnecessary, decision, but then again, I'm not a Carnival accountant so what do I know? :p

I do know, I wish I was on that cruise right now! Not only the OBC & future discount, but I'd be on a cruise RIGHT NOW! ;) Ha ha!

I agree the numbers can be argued both higher and lower. Was just crunching some numbers with dangerous assumptions.

Im also very with you on the "Wish I was on that cruise"!!! For all the same reasons.

  7. Was just sitting here thinking.....

Making a couple of dangerous assumptions:

3,000 pax on Magic this week (likely a low number)

Average cost of a cabin ship wide and all sailings of $600.00 per person.

This latest event just cost Carnival around $1,500,000.00

    3,000 x 200 (obc pp) = 600,000

    3,000 x 300 (half off future trip) = 900,000

    Total, $1,500,000

    Amazing!

I know you can adjust these numbers for all kinds of factors like not all will use the half off future cruise etc, etc, etc.

  8. To find a good pvp ask cruising friends. Or join a roll call for your next cruise and discuss while on the ship.

Not allowed to give out that info here.

    ^^^ What he said.

We normally book a few months in advance. Always with our PVP. We have used her since 2007 and she does good work.

We chose the sailing, ship, etc we want and either call, email, or Text message her to book it.

Unless on the odd chance you get in on some type of "Group" cruise, Carnival pricing will be the same where ever you go. That is one of the rules Carnival has. We use our PVP due to the fact she knows what can be done and all the ins and outs of different rate structures and "Sales".

As for OBC... Most often that is obtained by watching the rates and asking for any price drops. If you get these before final payment they give you the discount. If you book Early Saver, and see one after final payment then you get OBC. A few other ways to get OBC is to book while on a cruise, Own 100 shares of CCL stock and request it ($100 on 7day, $50 on 4-6 day trips), or other promotions as they come available.

    HTH,

    Don

  9. Curious -- how did they determine that the boy was still aboard, and had not jumped over the rail? Did the ship turn around and circle back to it's position at the time the boy went missing? If they didn't, there must have been some assurance that he was still aboard.

    .

The Dream has Infrared cameras down both sides of the ship. They detect if anyone goes overboard. Im sure those were reviewed during the routine search procedure, BEFORE all passenger were awakened.

It doesn't need to be a safety issue, it can be for any issue deemed serious enough by the Captain (it's not a decision made lightly). In this case what was done was sufficiently disruptive of shipboard operations to warrant asking the parties to leave the ship. I don't need both sides of the story to know that. I am not interested in judging the mom, or the family dynamic at work in the situation or any of that because there aren't enough facts for that nor do I really care.

Agreed, This kid and his "friends" that took him in were VERY disruptive to the crew and passengers by not replying to repeated requests for "Eric XXXXXX please come to Guest services or dial 7777".

As for others assuming possible abuse. IF that were the case should he not respond to calls from the highest authority available?

I too was on this cruise and heard them announcing in the hall way for him to call GS well before it was announced in our cabin repeatedly for 30 minutes or so. That is a total disregard for authority. THAT in and of itself in my opinion is grounds for disembarking a passenger.

I too was on the Behind the fun tour. That crew member made a statement that they "chose" to leave the ship in Jamaica. I don't know for sure but wonder if they were given the option to disembark or be confined for the remainder of the voyage?

Like many shipboard events. We will never know the entire truth. BUT I do KNOW he ignored repeated calls and inconvenienced approximately 5000 people for several hours. This almost cause us to miss the stop in Jamaica as well. Im glad he was found safe and do not feel bad for him and whoever got off the ship in Jamaica! Bad choices do come with consequences!

  10. You should be able to price match to it.

Only thing I have run into before is that the Taxes and fees go up after you book. If you price match you must also match the NEW taxes and fees. The increase can more than offset the decrease in fare making it best to keep your original rate. Just a thought.

As a side note, This is why I like to book with my PVP and simply fill out the form online for any credits. Quick and Easy.

  11. Where do I find pack n go on the Carnival site? is it specific days that they list the sailings?

    Thanks.

Most weeks... PNG rates are announced on Tuesdays and can be booked Wednesday thru Friday ( I think) our until sold.

You may be able to find them under the special rates at bottom left of page on Carnival.com?

  12. I wanted to bring bubbles with me for my Dads surprise 85th birthday cruise and John Heald told me they weren't allowed along with no balloons :(

So funny hats and noisemakers it will be :) Now I'm wondering if I should bring the bubbles....

It's easier to get forgiveness than permission....
