If price matters to you, check out the hotels on or near Lockwood Blvd. They're a little farther out than right downtown but more reasonable rates. By the Medical University.
Also check out the properties in West Ashley like the Holiday Inn Riverview, Residence Inn Riverview or Springhill Suites Riverview. They're all close to a popular restaurant called California Dreaming that has large windows overlooking downtown and the marinas.
Oh I just remembered, there's a LaQuinta right next to California Dreaming in the same area. Did you check them out? LaQuinta Riverview.
If you want to stay in the heart of downtown, there are two properties to investigate...Meeting Street Inn and Days Inn Historic District both next to each other on Meeting Street and less than 1/2 block from the start of the Market area.
That was the LaQuinta I was referring to. Thanks for the info will add those to your list I printed out.

That intersection on Ashley Phosphate Road (locally called Ashley Frustrate) and I-26 is the worst traffic area in the metro along with accompanying accidents. That property could take you 45 minutes to get to the port. I would suggest you save the points for a good LQ property.
If that LQ has so many bad reviews, I would believe them. Did you check their reviews on Trip Advisor?

Quick question since you seem to be very informed with the surrounding area. I have read your list of recommendations on places to stay but wondering if you could tell me if the LaQuinta is as bad as the reviews it has received? We have points that would give us a free room there but not sure that we should chance it due to their reviews they receive. Any comments would be helpful. We will be cruising out of Charlestown the first weekend in Nov.

Just booked a Northbound cruise in August and have everything about taken care of except for when we arrive in Seward / Anchorage. We do not fly out until the following morning.
So my question for the experts is what would be the the ideal activity for that day and where to stay that evening? Our flight departs at 9:00am on the following day out of Anchorage.

After reading through this thread wanted to say thanks for all the helpful hints. I have booked a room at the Pan Pacific per your suggestions. Found they are running a summer special through tomorrow. Which works with our pre cruise arrival.
I would like to ask one question:
We will be arriving at hotel approximately 2:30ish on a Tuesday and will be cruising out the next day. So with that time frame in mind what two must activities would you do? One afternoon and one next morning prior to boarding ship.

First cruise will be on the Legend starting on Sunday (9/9)!
Quick question. Will we be able to watch any baseball games in perhaps one of the bars? The Red Sox play the Yankees during the last few days and I imagine at least one or two of the games will be a national broadcast.
The Sports Bar will be your best chance to catch any games.

quick question for ya'all.... I'm working on my door sign for the Legend Christmas cruise, and don't know whether to print it on magnetic paper or not. Can someone tell me if the doors on the the Legend are metal, or should I just bring my tape ???

how sound proof are the rooms? Do you ever hear your neighbors? Tv's, radio's, kids, parties, or etc..
Not that it's a big deal, just curious.
Have never heard any noice from neighbors - we were located directly across for the laundry room and if there was alot of traffic did not hear that either.

I tried to read the whole thread, but I am at work and trying to "look" like I am really working instead for cruising the boards. Anyway do you know where the "self service" laundry is on the ship? I have looked at all the plans and can't find it. We really like just bring a few pairs of shorts and casual shirts and doing a load of laundry half way though the cruise. Alot less luggage that way :D
I know that the laundry on the Upper Deck level 5 is directly across from room 5270.
