While we will take a 7 day cruise we don't normally like to do so. We have one booked next May but only because we start an 18 day out of FLL and, since we have to fly there anyway, we booked a 7 day Western Caribbean as a pre-cruise cruise. We booked a 7 day in 2018 as well but, again, it was an add-on before a 19 day cruise. I guess a lot of folks do take 7 day cruises (and I've even seen where a few have referred to them as "longer cruises" 😵) there are a lot of folks who find 7 days way too short - especially if one has to travel very far to and from the port of embarkation/disembarkation.

I hear you brother. The life is good and the good life is even better. 😃

Why it's so important to print out all your documents, reservations, orders, etc along the way.  They definitely owe you the drinks.

I am on Apr 12 Mediterranean cruise. My e-ticket states the 12 drink vouchers are included. But I think it’s just an IT glitch. Hopefully they will honor it but I do not hold my breath. I am sure if I sue them I will prevail since it’s in writing, but would I spend my precious vacation time arguing with them over it – probably not.

  3. I just called - they offered $50 per person. I am in balcony on Regal. Booked with TA. Could probably insist to talk a customer representative to go higher then that but was not in a mood. My guess is too many people are calling now so they reduced it to $50

  4. Drinks are only included if you have a drinks package.

Could you please confirm this statement. I am looking at the MSC web side statement and it does not mention that you must have a drinks package for 12 vouchers.

Fantastica Drink Package, which includes 12 beverage vouchers per person in the stateroom that can be used in bars, restaurants and the buffet. Includes wines by the glass, beers, non-premium spirits and cocktails, soft drinks, mineral water and hot drinks. Child version of package available without alcohol.*

  5. I suggest the cash tip because the steward is being given extra work. The stewards "could" work out the DSC difference between them once NCL passes it along to them, but my feeling is that the 1 steward is accommodating the cabin change and taking on extra work at my request so it would be my responsibility to make sure he or she is appropriately compensated.

To each his own though. The poster will do what they feel is right to them. :)

What do you think a reasonable cash tip should be? $5, $10, more a day?

  6. I have a booking of B9 (balcony SPA) on Breakaway. I just went to prepay my service charges and surprisingly it's $14. I did not know that the B9 is considered a suite, I expected to see $12.

I just paid for 3 of us (PH suite) for a 5-day in March. The total cost -- $180.

Actually I think NCL made a mistake - the wording is " A discretionary charge of $14.00 per person per cruise day for all guests 3 years or older will automatically be added to your onboard account. Your service charges will total $168.00 for all guests, for your entire cruise."

However $168 for 2 person for 7 days comes down to $12 not $14. :D

  7. Last December we were on Pearl. My mother-in law had a severe allergic reaction. She was treated overnight at the ship’s hospital. The final bill was over a thousand dollars. I am really happy I bought insurance for her. They reimbursed me everything. I do not always buy insurance for myself but for senior people it’s a must IMHO.

  8. I have the same question. We received 1 $500 certificate and 4 $100 category upgrade certificates. I know that the $500 will be taken off the total price of the cruise, but since upgrades within the category are seldom $400, are the category upgrades basically useless?

I propose to send all the USELESS certificates to the CEO of BofA as a token of our appreciation and let him use the upgrades for his cruises.

  9. Dianne,

I agree with you. That's why I plan on sending in ALL my certs -- three $500 AND three $100. What the heck? They may get a big heart and take the other $300 off (or maybe OBC???) just because I'm a great guy! I can't use them anyway as we always stay in suites.

I think it would be a nice gesture on NCL/BoA's part but I won't be disappointed if they just ignore the $100s.

    Sea Hound:D

What if they ignore the $500s ? I would not risk sending all them. The rules say the $100s can not be combined with $500s.

  10. If I have to settle for 'free upgrate' sertificates, does anybody know how exactly it would work?

Should I reserve a cabin in lower category and then get a free upgrade? How do I make sure then I get a cabin I want? Or reserve a cabin I want but pay for it as if it was in the lower cat?

  11. I was notified today by my agent that my 3x$500 certificates were applied towards $1200 final payment and now I am 'paid in full'. I, however, do not see the difference of $300 been credited to my CC account. May be it takes time (how long ???) or may be I will never see it.

I sent the certificates over to NCL on 12/10, I got notified on 12/16 that I am paid in full, I got the difference credited back to CC on 12/22.

  12. If you are sure that you won't be sailing again in 2009 and the certificates expire then, I would send them all in (overnight or fastest most secure way with proof of reciept). In the past they have credited all of it to my account and then credited any overage paid back to the MC, since that is how the deposit is generally paid. Not sure if they will still do this now, but it's worth a try!

  13. Unless you need to apply these certificates in the next 6-8 weeks, I would wait and let them send the certificates out in January. You will have an extra year to use them if you do this, in case your plans change.

    NCL faq states the following:

"What happens to my Compass Rewards?

Your final certificate(s) will arrive by mail on or before January 31, 2009. You will have one year from date of issue to apply the certificates to a booking, but you will be able to use them towards any NCL cruise before January 31, 2011. "

I think it is not very clear if the extention to January 31, 2011 applies only to the final certificates or to all.
