  1. Yes I paid with American Express and did return the car with a full tank...Keep in mind its a small island and very unlikely you will use more than a quarter of a tank...The company I used was Turbe Car Rental you can GOOGLE them and make a reservation, they gave me the best rate..Enjoy :) :o

  2. You have the right idea. You can rent a car and see the entire island with plenty of time to spare. Its a small island, be sure and rent a small car, As parking in Gustavia can be tight. The road are good and you should not get lost. I have always reserved a car online and this time of year it should cost about $40.00 including insurance, its now the low season and rates are down. All the cars come from the airport, its about 5 minutes away, the company I use will have a person waiting at the dock with a sign with YOUR name on it.. As for seeing the downtown area you can see it first or last as the tenders drop you off at the start of town. Be sure and take time to watch the planes land, I have seen people get off the plane and kiss the ground so greatful for a safe landing. As for beaches we enjoy St Jean it has calm waters and seaside resturants. Enjoy your time, we do...:) :o

  3. I rented from Turbe, do a google search. They are at the airport, but will be waiting at the dock for you, with a sign with your name. The airport is about a 5 minute drive from the docks. I did make my reservation online about 3-4 weeks before we arrived. Great service, just remember in St. Barts the parking in town is limited and the streets are narrow so get a SMALL car. You will see alot of Smart cars that should be a clue to the roads and parking...Cost in March was less than $40.00 a day which included insurance. Have fun, we do....:):o

  4. St. Barts is one of the best stops of the entire Caribbean. Whatever you do--don't stay onboard. If you like to shop they have many trendy shops or several places to sit and have a glass of wine or a cool drink. As for beaches you can take a taxi to St Jean its about a 5-8 minute ride over the hill with white sand, calm warm waters and several resturants and shops. As you pass the small airport watch for a plane as they must make a difficult landing on a runway that you must almost nosedive into for a landing. Many will say the island is a bit pricey, yes you will pay abit more but your only there for the day so enjoy it, as its one of the cleanest, smallest islands you may ever see.

  5. We have been to St.Barts several times and use Turbe car rental. They are located at the airport with several other rentals companies but they have always meet us at the dock with a sign in hand waiting. They discount the rate if you book online. About 6 weeks ago we rented a small 2 door for 33 euro's including insurance... Be sure and rent the smaller cars on any island as the roads can be narrrow and parking can be very hard to find in town...Have fun, we do.....

  6. WOW, seems that things are the same today as they were 20 years ago when I was in Martinique...Heres the short version of how my day started..First we book a tour with the ship, get to the start location and meet the cab driver for the first part of the tour. After the 4 of us get into the cab I noticed the driver was more interested in getting us from point A to point B as quick as he could. I wanted to take a few photos So I asked him, several times, if he would stop at several points so we could take a photo...NO NO he does not speak or understand english, OK I can buy that. But to his surprise and mine, one in the couple with us was a French teacher back home, so she asked for him to stop, guess what? Now he does not understand French..So I say to him very nicely as I could at this time as I reached over and grabbed the keys in the ignition, NEXT TIME I ASK YOU TO STOP AND YOU DON'T THEN YOUR KEYS GO OUT THE F------ WINDOW:D...WOW it was a miracle, he now not only understands English but he also speaks it...

Later we hear that very few ships stop at this Island because the locals do not really want them here...But hey what the heck I will be going back someday as it is a beautiful island...Have fun we do...OH, for any that wonder, yes I did get several photos as he stopped each and every time he was asked...:)

  7. Just something to think about....I have a Harley and ride it in my area often...Two things that keep me from renting one while on the islands...1-Your out in the hot sun, and it is HOT..2-You have no way to lock up anything you carry that may be stolen if left unattended...We take alot of cruises and alway rent a car for the airconditioning and locking items in the trunk...Just my 2cents...Have fun we do...Later:):)

  8. :):)The Southward, ah our first cruise. It was a 4 day out of Long Beach in about 1987. It was great, they even handed out party poppers to everyone as were departed the port. Back then we did most of our travels with a motorhome as a family. At first my wife was in fear of becoming sea sick so she wore THOSE patchs, you know the ones that make you look like a alien..She was not sure if she would enjoy the water. Funny thing she told me on the road back home when I asked her how she liked the cruise? All she said was SELL THE MOTORHOME, so now we'll be taking our :)31st:) cruise in about 3 weeks--need I say more....
