We have sailed on the Pride in the winter out of Baltimore.  Should the weather be bad, the main pool has a retractable roof.  Also, the Dive-in moves are in the main pool area, I think if bad weather is in the forecast the roof should be closed.  There were people in the pool in January and February on our sailings from Balitmore.

That's great to know, thank you!

I'll plan on posting pictures of the ship, funtimes and menus currently avaiable on this ship.  This is the 2nd time on it, was on it once before 2 years before it was drydock

I look forward to seeing that.  I'll be on the same itinerary in August.

We'll be in a balcony cabin - if you are, too, would you count how many electric outlets there are?  Thanks!

  3. I had also really been looking forward to People to People earlier this month. I did get an email from P2P with the name and contact info for my host, and they were also sent the same email. The host replied to the email saying they'd be in touch with me.

I googled the host, and found out that they were an extremely bad match for my friends and myself. I sent what I believe to be a very nice email to the host, saying that I looked forward to hearing from them and meeting them, but that due to a difference in our beliefs, I was hoping a particular thing would not become a topic of discussion during our visit. I asked that if that was a problem for them to please let me know and I would ask P2P to look for a different host instead.

I never heard from the host, even when I sent another follow-up. I then contacted P2P, and they replied that they'd spoken with the host, and the host would be contacting me.

Well, I never did hear from the host. I let P2P know that, and they never replied to me either.

This was the ONLY off-ship activity I had planned during my cruise, and I am extremely disappointed at how the whole thing was (not) handled. If I had been given enough notice, I would have made other plans for Nassau. But I kept hoping I'd hear something from someone.

I still think the program sounds like a great idea, but there seems to be some glitch in the system. I hope other people have better luck than I did.

  4. Was calling Special Needs before of after sailing?

We called well ahead of time, because on a prior cruise the dining table height was an issue for DH. Our experience is that the Special Needs Dept is pretty good, but they need enough notice. They can't help you if they don't know what you need. :)

This is true of hotels and other venues, as well as cruises.

  5. DH is mildly handicapped, so he needs a table to eat at.

It's worth a call to the Special Needs department. On Celebrity they actually built a special table for my DH because he couldn't use the regular table on the balcony. It wasn't anything fancy, basically a plywood top on 2x4 legs...but it made his balcony-dining possible and enjoyable!

We had contacted them with questions about the MDR table height, so they were aware of his needs. The table on our balcony was a pleasant surprise for him!

  6. We are going to be in the bahamas in January and sent an email in early November--we heard back yesterday, so I think they just wait until closer to the tour time. :)

Thanks AllyRae. I heard from P2P also! They asked for confirmation of our date and time, etc. So now I'm excited to find out who our host(ess) will be, and learn more about them! Leaving on our cruise in just 19 more days.

  7. OP - I think it sounds like a blast! This from someone who was just surprised on my cruise!

DH and I sailed on Valor 11/10. Since we leave San Juan at 10pm, we were in our cabin around 6pm or so getting ready to go eat. A knock came at the door. I opened it thinking it was our cabin steward coming to introduce himself. Imagine my shock  when it was our two friends from back home! They had flown down to join me and hubby on the cruise as a surprise for my 50th b-day. It was so cool. For that split second you stand there and your brain doesn't comprehend what you are seeing. :D We have gone on group trips with them in the past, so this was just so awesome. Guess it was in the works for 4 months and I had no clue. :)

So go and enjoy your surprise! And yes, keep us posted. :)

Oh, it's so nice to hear from someone who was the recipient of a surprise! Usually we never hear how these things turn out. I'm glad you were pleasantly surprised!!

  8. What a fun idea!

Just want to warn you, when you link up dinner seating, it will show up on their reservation too. For Royal Caribbean, we needed to know each other's reservation numbers, not cabin numbers. I'm linked with 5 other cabins for dinner and all of us see it on our reservations. Your brothers might not notice it, but I'd hate for that little detail to spoil your surprise.

Is the cruise coming up soon? Please come back afterwards and tell us how it worked out! :)

  9. Aww, your daughter is a real cutie-pie! :D

You can bring a small inflatable pool to use as a "bathtub" in your shower. You can also use the pool on your balcony (if you have one) so she can have fun splashing to her heart's content.

I agree that at that age, most people don't bother sterilizing bottles or nipples. But if you want to get close to it, get hot water from the Windjammer or anyplace that serves tea. You can bring a thermos from home, fill it with the hot water, and soak the bottle nipples in it. You might even get hot enough water from room service.

When my kids were very young, we did a lot of road trips, and I made a special "first aid" kit with baby tylenol drops, a thermometer, something for upset tummy, etc. Never needed it, until the ONE time I forgot to pack it. I won't go into detail, but trust me, you do NOT want to forget to pack that stuff! Just in case though, before you leave on the cruise, check out ports of call and know how to get to the closest pharmacy or Walmart, etc.

    Enjoy!

  10. Thank you for asking about the etiquette of booking accessible cabins. In my experience, they will not let you book an accessible cabin this far out unless you need it. They will send you forms to verify that you need it. Even if something falls through the cracks and they would let you book it, please don't.

After final payment, anything that's left is put into general inventory, and anyone can book it. If that's the case, feel free to take it. I do agree with cb at sea, you probably would be better off with a bathtub anyway.

    Happy sailing :)

  11. And i'm planning a joint Wedding Shower.. to involve my fiancée..

Since your questions are about etiquette, I will point out that brides don't host their own showers (nor moms-to-be, etc.) Not long ago, it was also considered inappropriate for anyone in the bride's (or groom's) family to host the shower. However, now it's fine as long as the family member is also part of the wedding party and/or logistics mean it's the only realistic choice.

So if your sister (for example) is your Maid of Honor, it's okay for her to send shower invites, and okay for the shower to be held at your mom's house. And it's fine for her to include your registry info with the invitation. It's okay for you to give names and addresses to whoever is hosting your shower, but you should not be inviting people to your own shower.

  12. You are all wrong about the date. The new policy takes effect for cruises leaving January 14, 2014 or later.

Good luck! I won't be cruising RCL anymore. It's a choice and I made it.

Actually, RCL isn't in the running for my favorite cruise line anyway.

According to the Royal Caribbean website, the policy is in effect as of January 1, 2014.

    http://www.royalcaribbean.com/customersupport/faq/details.do?pagename=frequently_asked_questions&pnav=5&pnav=2&faqSubjectName=Onboard+Policies&faqId=3101&faqSubjectId=333&faqType=faq

"Royal Caribbean updated the smoking policy September 2013 and the above policy is in enforcement on all ships with cruises departing on or after January 1, 2014."
