  1. Can you tell me how you liked them? I'm researching jet ski tours in Grand Cayman and Ebanks has good reviews on TripAdvisor. I did a search here on Cruise Critic and the reviews were really old. I was wondering if there are any more recent experiences here? My husband and I are going to be in GC on Sept 13th.

    Thanks for your help!

  2. ...

Just can't decide between the ships - I like Reflection the best - but since we may not get back to Europe anytime soon - I also like the idea of 12 days over 10 (not that 2 days makes a huge difference). ...

We did a Mediterranean cruise and I think how many days you cruise is a big component of the decision. I would take the longest cruise you can. To me, two more days is a big deal.

The Med is a 'once in a lifetime' trip for some; and like someone else said, the flights to get there are long!

So the Eclipse 12 night cruise is my recommendation.

  3. Looking forward to our cruise in just 30 days! This is the first time on Celebrity for us and we are excited to try out another cruise line.

I am especially glad to be sailing through the southern Caribbean on the Summit, which I hear is a great ship. Many people have a lot of positive things to say about her. Looking forward to eating in Blu as we are Aqua class and so many post positive reviews on the food and service there.

Just finished my packing list and thinking about when to get everything together - can't be soon enough! :D

  4. I dislike buffets. So we have always had lunch at Bistro on 5 after boarding. We are booked on Summit next May o/v so we are not eligible for MDR lunch. My DH dislikes the items on the Sushi on 5 menu. Are there alternatives to these 2 lunch venues?

I have the same question, although we don't mind a buffet. I was wondering who gets to eat in the MDR for lunch? We are Aqua, so is Blu open for lunch?

    Thanks!

  5. This was our 1st time on Celebrity, and the Summit was a good choice. We flew to San Juan a day ahead and booked a hotel & shuttle to the ship through the cruise line. Both were a bit tenuous. ... ....the ship didn't appear in top shape and an odor of sewage was noticeable on occasion. ...None of the items were bad enough to not sail on Celebrity again, but I would look at a newer or more recently refurbished ship.

Thanks for the review. We are sailing on the Summit next winter and I'm interested in people's take on the ship. I had a couple of questions for you.

What did you mean by the hotel and shuttle booked through the cruise line were tenuous? You thought they were vague or questionable?

Where was the odor of sewage? That would put me off, too.

Glad you had a good time.

  6. Having this same conversation with my hubby. I have a Nikon DSLR which I don't want to take on our shore excursions as we are doing beach/sailing/snorkel type activities. He and I are looking at these three point-and-shoot cameras:

    Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS6D - $199

    Olympus TG-860 - $239

    Olympus TG-4 - $350

I have done research and all 3 cameras I found are waterproof up to 43ft (great for snorkeling!) and can withstand drops up to 6 feet. They are also sealed against dust and dirt.

Olympus TG-4 is the best but it's pretty expensive at $350.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS6D is runner up in most categories and more reasonably priced at $199 on Amazon. I like the Olympus TG-860 because it has better image quality than the Panasonic and it has a articulating LCD screen (so you can flip it up and take selfies or see above a crowd)

  7. We got all the extra amenities on EQ, and also varied fresh fruit, shrimp cocktail, cheese and crackers, etc...just let your attendant know what you prefer. .....

You got shrimp cocktail for your afternoon snack?!?!?:D Do you think that we would be able to request that?? We are in Aqua class for the first time on our upcoming cruise and I really hope that is something I can get for hubby...that it isn't just offered on the EQ (Equinox?).

..... We have tips included as part of triple perks. We tip upon meeting attendants, and also for special service and at the end...and for room service...

So you already paid for gratuities but then tipped more for each service? (I don't mind tipping, just trying to get a feel for what is expected.) Can I ask how much you tipped? How much do you tip for room service? I'm thinking for a simple coffee/roll breakfast.

  8. To the OP - you could try Island Buddy Jeep Tours. We haven't used them (hope that's ok to mention) but they came recommended to us by someone who had... We are thinking about them for our stop in St. Thomas in Dec. The website says they do a private tour for $99pp.

  9. The ship will change to "Atlantic Time Zone" after first night and remain until the final night. In other words the ship time and local time match throughout the cruise. (Just off the 2/21 Eclipse cruise)

Howvwr, as of today, Atlantic and Eastern time are the same due to the US Daylight Savings, which the Caribbean (in the main) does not practice. So, Eastern time has "caught up" to Atlantic, no time changes needed for those islands... At least not until fall, when US "falls back" to standard time...

So, that means when I cruise in December, my ship will be on daylight savings time and the islands won't be??? Sorry, I think I am still confused.

But some of you seem to be saying the ship will change to Atlantic time and stay there...

  10. We need to renew our passports for the first time and have a couple of questions for you who have done this.

Did you print the renewal form out on line?

How did you send it; insured, registered, what?

Can we send both of our passports in the same envelope (with two forms) and do we need separate checks for the fee?

Anyone feel weird about sending that important of a document in the mail and not knowing if it gets there OK or what if something happens to it?

    Thanks!

  11. I may not be qualified to answer this as I haven't experienced an overnight stay in the Caribbean, but I have done Azamara and they do overnight stays in port.

On our Mediterranean cruise (ten nights) we enjoyed having the overnight so we could take our time getting back to the ship. We also considered eating on board the ship and then going back into town to enjoy some nightlife.

But as we haven't experienced overnight in the Caribbean I can only say, in theory, I don't think I would I would care to have it. The ports seem pretty busy during the day, and I think we'd be more likely to stay on board after a busy day in port.

So I think it depends on the itinerary for me.

  12. I'm confused about the time differences in the Southern Caribbean (our ports: Barbados, St. Lucia, Antigua, St. Martin, St. Thomas) vs the ship's time. I assumed the ship would change their clocks to reflect the different time zones they travel in, but now I'm not sure.

Have any of you sailed this itinerary before?

We booked a tour with a St. Martin operator and below is the statement he sent me in his confirmation email

<<Check in and return times are quoted in LOCAL time. Please check well in advance with your ship to know the difference, if any, between our local time (Atlantic Standard Time) and the ship time. St. Martin is on Atlantic Standard Time and we are one hour ahead of Eastern Standard Time. Your ship may be on either Eastern Standard Time or Atlantic Standard Time.>>

How far in advance should I check to know the difference?

How do I check with the ship if I want to check, say, a month ahead of sail date?

Our ship docks in St. Martin at 8am. Thanks for your help.

  13. I wish the Summit spa area was like this. My first cruise on Summit what you posted here is what I expected.Boy,what a letdown. I was glad I hadn't booked Aqua and checked out the area before buying a weekly pass. Laura

Yes, we are traveling on the Summit, which is M class I believe (our first time on Celebrity).

So what should I expect from the Summit as far as the Persian Garden?? How does it (the P.G.) differ from the S class ships?

  14. Thank you to everyone who answered. :) So, we are calling TA today to check out what cabins are still available for Aqua. From all of the posts it seems that the upgrade is a good idea.

Noticed that the Aqua cabins are all on deck 9 under the pool area above, and my DH is worried that there may be a lot of noise in the cabin. I was thinking that this would only be a problem during the day when we will be out of the room, but I'm not sure. Have any of you had a noise problem being on deck 9? Is the pool open at night?

Can you tell me what the Persian Garden is, exactly? What do you do there?

  15. My husband and I have a possibility to upgrade from concierge class (C2) to aqua class for $100 per person. Is this a good idea for extra perks? Other than eating in Blu what would be your reasons to upgrade?

We like the idea of Blu, but we are on the fence regarding the upgrade.

Right now we have room 8098. Can you help me decide? Thanks!
