  1. You should post the 7 Day Med thread in the RCCL forum. There are already threads for some of the individual sailing dates, but because the pickup and let off at three ports, its confusing and not much activity. Maybe you consolidated thread idea would be good.

Do all the Western Mediterranean cruises have pickup and departing at 3 different places? I didn't know that. But that explains why there has been no activity or response to my post for the July 27th sailing. This is disappointing to me, because I would like to get some people together to create some private tours, and would like to have a Meet & Mingle"

I like the idea of a consolidated thread also.

  2. We are on the Nov 15 Amalotus, only 3 months to go:D.

I just finished a novel set in contemporary Vietnam. As one review says

"essential reading for anyone mulling a trip to Hanoi". It is a really good read as well as enlightening re Vietnam.

The book is "The Beauty of Humanity Movement" by Camilla Gibb.

Thanks for the recommendation of this novel set in contemporary Vietnam. It's so helpful to read novels set in the country you are visiting to get another view which is sometimes more honest than guide books or guides.

I'm thinking of going on the Amalotus and would love to read your review after you come back. Since it is a new ship, there is not much in the way of reviews yet.

Hope you have a great time.

  3. pvmeistrel,

One of the members of our roll call found Turismo Nuevo Mundo, and several of us are booked on their private tour to Magdalena Island. The cost was less than half of the cost of going on the ship's excursion. You can get more info by e-mailing Mariela at sales@turismonuevomundo.cl. (If I didn't type that right, simply google the company for more info.) Good luck!

    Tenngal,

By now you must be back from your November South America trip. Hope you had a great time. I'm curious to know how your Magdelena Island trip went with Turismo Nuevo Mundo? I'm most likely going with them in Dec. What was the boat like, and did you arrive on the island before the ferry? Would you recommend doing the island with this tourist agency? Anything else I should know before I go?

  4. thank you for the recommendation of GV tours. Each time I try to email them at both the addresses given on the their website, the mail is returned to me as undeliiverable. How were you able to reach them? Please help - I want to be able to use them.

This is very weird. After I wrote the above post, following the notifications that my email was undeliverable, I got a response from GV Tours, who had apparently gotten my email! I've arranged to go with them in Puerto Montt.

We are using GV Tours in February. No deposit; just reservation paying in cash at the end of the all day tour.
  6. I am looking for recommendations of a private guide/tour in Puerto Montt to Petrohhue River Falls, Lake Llinquihue, and surrounding areas.

I contacted Eureka Turismo which had been previously recommended but I am hesitant to arrange with them because they want payment in fall before, with no refund if for any reason the ship can't make the port. The guy I heard from Raimundo Runge, said that all the guides in Porto Montt do it this way. I have never heard of this before; other guides contacted in other ports want a credit card deposit, or just to be paid in cash on the day of the tour.

I would like to hear if others have had this happen. Please let me know if you have other guides/tours to recommend in this port.

  7. We visited Punto Tombo in Feb of this year and it was one of the highlights of the cruise for me.We did a private tour and yes the journey from the port is fairly long but seeing all those penguins certainly made it all worth while. We arrived before the ships coaches and had the place to ourselves. There are literally thousands of penguins there walking right in front of you a sight I shall never forget. On our way back we drove round the Welsh Village and the driver was excellent giving us a running commentary about the area.I also saw penguins in the Falkland Islands but nothing could match Punto Tombo.

Englishmum. I was also thinking of visiting Punto Tombo, and your experience sounds fantastic. Would you be willing to share the name of your guide? We will be on Journey Dec 23rd trip, and almost always prefer a private guide rather than the ships's tour. My only concern is with the time needed for travel back and forth to this site. Would that be cutting it close to get back to the ship? Thanks for the information.
