I'm with you webteach, it can certainly be more of a hassle then it's worth.

ABSOLUTELY!!!!! We learned this the hard way yesterday. We rented from the Orlando airport for a few days in Florida, as we made our way to Fort Lauderdale. We dropped the car at the Budget at the Quay shopping center, waited 40 minutes for the shuttle, finally got to the port. Not a big deal at all.
When we dropped the car off I specifically asked 2 questions. 1) Does the shuttle run from the port for car pick ups (answer--yes, it should run by every 20 minutes or so), and 2) We didn't know what time we would be debarking, and had a 9:00 AM rental time-would they cancel our reservation. (answer--no-they realize that cruises are a different situation and would not cancel our reservation.)
We had a fabulous time on the Independence of the Seas, debarked about 10:00AM and called Budget to ask where to wait for the shuttle. Yes, it was running, and would be arriving momentarily, so we went and waited.
Flash forward 45 minutes-no shuttle. I called to be sure we were in the same place. Yes, we were. I asked why it hadn't come by. I was told it was at the port and should be by any minute. OK, we waited.....and waited....
Now it had been about 1 hour and 10 minutes. I called again. Should I just take a cab? No-she asked what ship were we on. I told her. She said she would let the driver know to be sure to go get us. so we waited....and waited....at the 2 hour point I called again. (and I have to say I was very calm and polite-my husband was shocked) I was not so nicely told "Well ma'am-it IS a courtesy shuttle. It starts at the beginning of the port and when it's full, it comes back. It does not alter the terminals so if there are a lot of people at other terminals it will be a long wait." I started to ask why we weren't told this up fromt, but was simply answered with a "click".
With that we hailed a cab and went straight to the hotel (10 minutes away). Good thing, because when we got there I went on line to cancel the reservation. I was not able to though, because my "reservation pick up time had passed" and the reservation had been automatically cancelled. I was so glad we made other arrangements because if I had arrived at Budget by cab and my reservation had been cancelled and no car available, it would have been an ugly scene.
I learned my lesson. Use a rental car that uses the shared shuttle to/from the airport or just take a cab. I was so dissappointed in this Budget location that I wouldn't use them again if they had the only car left in the state. I always rent from Budget, and have never had such a horrible experience.
disclaimer--this was our experience-I hope others have a better one.

Yikes! What did Enterprise have to say about this? Have you contacted them? I am now going to stress about that exact thing. We have rentals from Budget scheduled to a location near the port and were planning on getting dropped off and picked up at the pier by the shuttle...I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Wow Frannie its not just the suites that are a no show for your 7th Feb sailing, I ran a search and couldnt find anything! Zilch! not even a stowaway cabin in steerage! :D I guess that must mean that the entire cruise is sold out?! I wonder if your sailing at a school break time in the UK? either way Im sure your going to have a fantastic cruise.
I did read somewhere about a website where you can find out how full your ship is, much the same way as you can find out how full your flight is, it would be interesting to find out if your sailing really is totally booked out. Id quite like to know how mine is doing too, Im the only person on the roll call so far :(
WOW
We are on the Feb 15th sailing--lot and lots of room available on that one. And it's winter break time in the northeast US that week too. I wonder why there is such a big difference between the two...?

Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!

August will be here before you know it :D
but February seems so far away...so I'll happily anticipate our vacation through everyone else's posts of information, and pictures! (I am not wishing time to fly-the faster it goes, the older my boys get.)

Can't wait 'till next Feb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great pictures. There will be lots more after she sails next week!!!!:D

Those photos were great! THANKS!!
My only question, do we go by the deck plans on RCCL website, or the ones from AkerYards? It seems as if our rooms (7304/06) are not connectiong, unless I am misreading the prints.... Some of the rooms show a circular door between rooms, but not ours, just shows a small triangle???

Those picts are great!! Thanks for the links!!

I am VERY excited!!! But I do agree there doesn't seem to be much general enthusiasm. Maybe it will increase as the inaugural gets closer??

Hi All-
I just checked the prices for our cruise on the Indy, as I do everyday, not expecting any price drops (we are sailing over a very popular school break time here in the USA). To my great surprise, our cruise fare dropped and we saved $510 total!:D
It may be worth going in to check if the same is true for anyone else's sailing dates! I hope others will be as fortunate as we were! Good luck!!

...someone had better post a lot of pictures!!!!:p
LOTS AND LOTS OF PICTURES PLEASE!!!!!:D
-
Please, to those going on board soon....take LOTS of photos fo the rest of us who have to wait so long!! Have a fantastic time!
-
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
It's still snowing and that was just what we all needed to warm us up a bit!!
-
Is there any more news about the Indy?? It's going to snow (AGAIN!!!) and I need a fix while dreaming about next February's cruise...

I know this group is growing slowly but steadily, however I am still surprised to find that there are relatively few of us so excited about this ship... Do new ships take some time to build trust before folks will book her, or do you think some shy away because they are often a higher priced cruise than older ships?
We are booked during a busy school break week (here in the US), but we are the only family on the roll call with kids. I know not everyone who cruises is a CC member, lol, but it seems like most of the roll calls are really slow.
Or maybe it's because our trip is just under a year away, idk...
Any thoughts?

DH and I are not cruising until February 07 of 2009...I'll be checking in for up dates, as our little site is not doing very well at all...no one there to give us any information...
I expect that shall change shortly when she finally starts sailing...
Thanks again
Rev
I know how you feel!!! We sail Feb 15th 2009, and our roll call is S-L-O-W. My kids are checking every day to see if any other families with kids are joining the thread. (They just don't understand that not everyone who cruises is a member of CC, LOL. ) I too, am hoping it picks up when she starts to sail-it's still a year away....
I am living vicariously through this thread, and am so excited to see pictures other cruisers take!

We are cruising the IOS 2/16/09. So far, there are only 2 on our roll call forum, so at least I can chat with people here!!

Warning - FLL Rental Car Shuttles to Port Everglades
in Florida Departures
Posted
Based on our recent experience, I would definitely get from Tampa to Fort Lauderdale the day before. It's a few hours drive. Drop your car at FLL. If your hotel has a shuttle, you can use that, or take a cab. Take a cab or hotel shuttle to the port on the day of your cruise. The other option is to keep your car until departure day of cruise, drop it off at the airport in the AM and take the rental car shuttle to the port (just be sure your rental agency is part of the shared shuttle).
