  1. In answering the "how do you get a great deal?" question, my answer is flexibility. We are leaving next week out of NJ where we don't have to fly and are paying a little over $1600 for our cruise for a family of 4. Its the Adventure which isn't the newest ship and we are going to the Bahamas, not the most exotic of destinations and we are going during the school year which got us the Kids sail free promo and BOGO plus on-board spending. NOT in a balcony but a "Spacious Oceanview". Now that is a great deal! The children will miss a total of 5 days of school instead of 6 (Friday to Friday) because our district is closed on election day. If you can't be flexible on the date then look at the Voyager Class ships.

Also I wanted to add that I found my deal myself then called my travel agent. We booked it for around $2100 in August and in December my Travel agent called me to tell me the price dropped.

  2. Just off Freedom two days ago and yes, the servers in Johnny Rockets still dance. The poor souls. :) We ate there one night and it cost $46.96 for my family of four, including the 18% service charge. Yes, it's unlimited appetizers, burgers/sandwiches, and soda, but that's still pretty steep, IMO. We didn't order milkshakes, but had we done so, that would've taken the cost up another $23.60.

Yeah, yeah...you're on a cruise, you're on vacation, etc., but $70.56 to take a family of four for a burger and a shake seems pretty steep. JMHO.

Also, someone noted above that they serve complimentary breakfast in Johnny Rockets. True, but only on Oasis class ships, not Freedom class.

Breakfast options on Freedom last week were as follows:

Sea days: Windjammer, MDR (limited to a 60-90 minute window so check your Compass the night before), and Cafe Promenade (pastries only)

Port days: Windjammer and Cafe Promenade (pastries only)

Can someone tell me what the Cafe Promenade has for breakfast on the Adventure? Is it just pastries. Our cabin is above there and I was hoping that could be our quick go to breakfast spot.

  3. I figured they had totally done away with it with the addition of the specialty dining and other options on board. I bet allot of it did unfortunately get thrown away. I also miss the live bands every afternoon on the pool deck much more pleasant to listen to then trivia. It's ok I'll bring my headphones and playlist of Bob Marley. I am glad I got to see what it was like to cruise before corners got cut. Cruising is still the best vacation value IMO even with the corners cut and the new up-charges.
