  1. We have booked the 5 day cruise on the Nieuw Amsterdam for December 18th.  When looking at the Navigator App, it says every night is Smart Casual.  We are fine with this, but I don’t want a surprise and not pack formal attire since there are  2 sea days.  Has anyone done one of these 5 day cruises in the past?  I know they aren’t too common on Holland, but we thought it would be a fun trip before Christmas.  Thanks!

    Almost a 3* on Holland

  2. Trying to figure out what to pack for our 10 year old son for casual wear during nights other than the gala night.  We have a sport coat, dress shirt, tie and khaki pants for gala nights.  Do kids wear pants every night at dinner?  We are fine with this, I’m just hoping that laundry will be careful washing his school uniform pants as they are the only dress pants he likes to wear.  Not sure if it matters, but we are planning on dining in club orange most nights as we have been gifted this from our in-laws who are traveling with us.  Any other families with kids have suggestion as to what their children are packing?

    Thanks in advance.

  3. Thank you for the review and the many pictures attached.  It was nice to see a room set up in the evening with the couch bed pulled out and the bunk above the bed.

It's nice to hear good things about ClubHal.  My 10 year old son is excited about our upcoming cruise and is looking forward to ClubHal.

Do you happen to have a copy of the children's menu(or remember the items from the children's menu) from Canaletto?  My son is requesting to dine there, but I'm not sure if he will like the dishes on the main menu.  He loves Italian food though.

It's sad to hear that the entertainment shows of the past are not on this ship.  I loved the Broadway style shows with the singers and was hoping to take my son to some of those this year.  Hopefully they still have those on the smaller ships when we go next summer to Alaska.

  4. Thanks for the responses - another questions would be whether my 10 year old could share the cabana with us.  He is very behaved and quiet and wouldn't be there long as he would prefer to spend time in Club Hal, but on the occasion we are in port and would want to eat lunch together I was curious if this retreat area is adult only.

  5. I have tried to locate more information on the cabanas by the pool on the Nieuw Statendam.  Is the charge of the cabana per person in the cabin or just per cabin?  We are in an inside cabin, so I thought this would be a nice way to enjoy being by the pool.  Would it be worth it to by the cabana for the week or just a day or two?  How do you book the cabanas before the cruise starts?

    Thanks for any help!

I have copied the Club HAL activities for the entire week for all of the age groups and will post them once I get home.  If you would like me to email them to you, please use the Contact form on my website to send me an email.

FWIW one of the teen activities is Poker NIght that will include lessons.

Thanks so much.  I sent you a message.

  7. We will be in on Nieuw Statendam in March.  I have seen that you have posted kids activities in the past.  Is there anyway you can get a list of the activities in the tween room to see what type of activities are on board?  Just curious.  I have enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to reading about this week as it is the same itinerary that we are doing.

  8. We are booking a cruise on the new Nieuw Statendam.  It has been 5 years since our last cruise on Holland and our son loved the kids club back then.  Does anyone have any idea what activities they offer for the tween club?  Just curious.

  9. If we decide to book the cruise we are looking at it will be our first one in 5 years.  When we went with our son when he was little, he loved the youth programs.  How is Shockwaves compared to Princess Pelicans?  Does anyone have a sample of the activities the kids do?

    Thanks so much!

  10. We were on the N. Amsterdam last December with our 4 year old son (he loved Club Hal) and loved it. We are wanting to go again this year in November and debating between the N. Amsterdam and Westerdam for the week of Thanksgiving since he will be in school we don't want to miss too many school days. Ports are the same, one leaves on Saturday the other on Sunday. We enjoyed Tamarind, but don't mind that it is not available on the Westerdam.

Any opinions just based on ship as to which we should go with?
