  1. I am so looking forward to my cruise. I'm sick of hearing we're sorry and having to tell the same stuff how things happened. To make it worse I have two feet of snow in my front yard. Plus it's extremely heavy and still coming down through the morning. Last time we had this much was 21 years ago and I was still working. Couldn't leave for a week. It's a shame they've gone so casual on the formal nights. My husband was such eye candy in his tux.

  2. Think I'm going to go for it. Mini Suite Jan 6 port Canaveral not a terribly exciting itinerary, but the ports or good, been there done that but I'm going for watching the ocean and just swim as much as possible. Figured the Widows VA benefit will pay for this one and if all goes well I'll go somewhere new next year. One thing I can fit into my cruise clothes after two years of being care giver and favorite food half peanut butter sandwich. After that I don't eat meat anymore or drink it all tastes bad. Looking forward to it though. It will be cold here then.

  3. Thanks all for your reply. I remembered who we worked with on last cruise 2020 and she's still there Jeannie. Think I'll look at something familiar like Alaska and look for a balcony. After doing nothing but mini suites wouldn't consider no balcony. Nothing like sitting there with a glass of wine bundled up with a blanket listening to the water.

  4. My husband and I did 30 cruises on Princess and he died of cancer. I'm thinking of booking a shorter cruise and test the water since I really enjoyed cruising and listening to the water while sitting on the balcony. The only drawback is Princess doesn't have any single rooms you have to pay double. I'm concerned about feeling alone in a pond of doubles. I've heard go on tours get active on the ship. Any suggestions out there. Thanks appreciate any help

  5. We seldom post on here anymore but still read it once in a while and just had to jump in on this one. And will probably get some flak but fine. It is what it is.

Just our take and we have been doing this on Princes since 1991.

The ship will be lovely, the food will be fine, your cabin will be just great.

Great ship but you will also have lots and lots and lots of people on board. The shows will be short if you can even get in. No covered pool and you will miss not having one even if you don't swim. This ship IOO should not be in Alaska. But since we don't have the Diamond or Emerald any longer it is there.

There are better Princess ships in Alaska still we would and are going on a different one but still Princess.

Our opinion Princess does a better job in Alaska than anyone but do your self a favor and try the Coral, or Grand or even the Island even after its refit a better trip.

  6. It became an issue when Princess built the Caribbean Princess (and then the next 3 ships after) when they added 500 more passengers to the ship but did not increase the size of the theatre. This created a crowding issue that I really didn't think existed on the earlier ships.

Coral: I finally gave up complaining about over crowded ships some time ago. But we will not go on one and haven't. But it appears we are in the minority. Except for maybe you.

We loved all the "hour long" production shows even after seeing them each several times. But we are getting old and guess time changes. We gave up complaining and posting, we keep up with it but do other things now.

  7. My DH suffered from a nerve disease that was so painful that it changed his personality on a daily basis.

He would become angry at everyone he encountered and I would try and intercede before the poor souls came in contact with him.

He was truly a lovely man but when he was in pain, the whole world suffered.

I would feel so badly for him because I knew what was going on, the public did not. But, if they came close to him in an elevator, at the market, standing in line or on an airplane he would "bark" at them in an angry tone. He loved to travel but it was becoming increasingly more and more difficult for him and for me to watch him.

He recently passed away but not before he terrorized every nurse and doctor in the hospital.

So, next time someone "barks" at you or you see them acting badly towards someone else, it may not be something they really mean but something that is happening to them and they can't help it! My husbands illness taught me a lot and gave me great insight into human behavior. It may not be a good excuse for poor behavior but it may be an explanation.

I wish I could apologize to EVERYONE who had to bear witness to my DH's rages and pray that I NEVER have to experience such sadness again!

    Dear Wizard of Ros,

We are so very sorry to read of your loss. The pain in your words is very evident. We had met him and your hero dog a few years back on a Princess cruise maybe the Sapphire but without looking it u[ not sure. We spent some time with him and (sorry I can't recall the lovely dog's name without digging out old posts) we sat with him on a couple of occasions.

I am getting somewhat older myself but instead of forgetting things, I tend to remember too many things. And I remember both your husband and the dog very well. A nice friendly man to talk to. We spent some time with both. He was very proud of you and of course the four footed hero. We are sort of dog people, Gerdie above.

I somewhat skipped from your post to the end here to get this in and will try catch up on it latter or as I can.

There is nothing wrong with memories.:)

  8. It is what it is. And predictable.

So we all have choices. And Carnival will pay close attention to your choices.

Choice 1. Go on a crowded cruise ship like the CB and twins or ---.

We took "OR". A good book is hard to beat.

We will still cruise but not as much and only still on Princess. Next in Sept on the Coral.

Then the Island, we will see what they did to it.

  9. WOW. Probably the longest review I've seem. And I haven't finished it yet, but will.

What caught my eye was taking your grand daughter. We did the same thing probably six years ago she was thirteen, on the Coral. Her aunt and uncle were also on the cruise. A great, great time. Her first and for us it still remains our very favorite cruise of all time. And like you we have done a few also all on Princess. We also took her on the Eagle preserve float trip in Haines. We have also done the jet boat there.

    Must run thank you.

    Jack and Nora

  10. To us every thing is important and we try very hard to get it all.

If you don't think the ship is important. Do a cruise on a "terrible" one.

    Food ----.

And so on and so on.

    Do your homework on each.

  11. Well I'm retired, like to cruise except when I read a post like some above.

Let's see where do I start?

I've already been around the (well most of) world. A very long time ago. And my very favorite spot is, right where I'm at.

People I like: Almost every one old and young. Especially people like Louis Zamperini, Charlie Brown and a whole lot more. And I like Pam also.

My favorite ships (Princess that is) all except the Crown, Caribbean, Ruby, and that other one I can't think of the name now, but makes no difference not going on it any way. Don't ask me why.

Let me say what a sheer joy it is to go on a ship like the Grand. Even if it doesn't have a Sky Walkers, Never used it anyway except to read in. But I do have a complaint, they cut the shows down.

  12. Have done this a few times, but things change so verify everything.

Captain Cook has been the Princess hotel for a very long time and your transfer will probably be bus.

But a lot of people like us like the train. It is a short cab ride to the station. You can buy train tickets on line and the train will let you off at the ship. Hope you are on the Coral or Island. Don't recall the price but don't think that high.
