  1. We have a Roll Call setup for our March 29, 2020 sailing on the Dawn and the group would like to have a slot pull. Unfortunately the person who agreed to run it (and knew how) had to cancel their cruise.  Does anyone have a set of instructions that they would be able to share?  Or point me in a direction to get instructions.  Thanks all....

  2. I’ve traveled in a suite and with a single friend in non-suite. We were able to all check-in together and board together through the suite checkin and boarding process.

The question about breakfast in Moderno is a little trickier. On embarkment day the concierge and/or Your butler will usually let your boarding party (including the single non-suite guest) have lunch together in Moderno or whatever speciality restaurant. This happened for us on both sailings where we had a single non-suite guest traveling with our party. BUT, it’s totally at the discretion of the concierge. Eating with you the entire cruise for breakfast and lunch is a BIG ask and probably would be a no. If the concierge did say yes you’d definitely need to tip big that cruise to the concierge.

You can ask the concierge to get an extra entry only key for your suite so grandpa can come and go. That’s no problem.

There is another solution for your suite vs non suite problem that is more straight forward. Book grandpa into a family suite (no balcony) near you on deck 12 forward. It comes with all the suite perks and is the lowest priced “suite” on the ship. It’s usually an excellent price and it is an excellent cabin. Just a thought.

  3. So this will be the first cruise where my daughter will be old enough for the teen club, she is just turning 13. My question is around supervision in the teen club. Is there always someone there? I'm a little uneasy about her being there with 17 years olds. Do they just come and go as they please? Any organized activities for them or is it just a hang out place?

    Thanks!

My grandchildren cruise with me frequently. My older grandson has been in the teen Club once or twice a year since 14. They do have teen club leaders and they have organized activities, treasure hunts, video game competitions, teen dance night, teen glow party, late night swim, etc. all of these are supervised. Of course you have to check in to make sure your teen is comfortable in the group and the teams they get paired with for some of the competitions. One night my son-in-law wanted to check in on the late night swim. It was about 10pm at the pool on deck 12. We walked out on deck 13 to observe. My son-in-law started to take a photo with his iPhone. The teen supervisor called up and stopped him. Told him he was violating the kids privacy. Knew he was a parent but said all of the kids deserved privacy so they could be themselves. At least we knew they were paying attention. Not just to the kids but to the other cruisers around them. Hope this helps.

  4. Is it better to book speciaility restaurants before the cruise

Absolutely. Book pre-cruise to have a good selection of dates, times, and group size. If you are in a suite, you can book 100 days in advance. All others can book 90 days out. NCL puts about 30 to 50% of the available reservation space up in advance. If you do not book in advance go to the dinner reservations desk in the customer service desk area immediately upon boarding to have the best chance of booking exactly what you want. If you are in a suite, ask the concierge to book your reservations. Don't wait if speciality dining on a particular day, time or large group is important to you.

  5. Last February my family sailed on Epic in 17019 and 17021. We had some deck chair noise mid day. But nothing in the evening or overnight. We are sailing on Epic again in October and decided to be on deck 16 this time. The reason being that we were going up and down the stairs a lot between 16 and 17 to the Haven restaurant and bar. A little too much for my aging knees.

  6. Hi All!

I've recently booked a Haven Penthouse, chose all four perks - yet I see a "Choice Promotion Service Charge" of $223.92 tacked on after my perk selection. You say this is supposed to be waived? Please advise...

The original poster booked at a time when the promotional program waived gratuities on the beverage package for suite/haven cabins. THAT PROMOTIONAL OFFER IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE. If you are booking a suite under today's "Splash sale" promotion you must pay 18% gratuities based on the value of the daily rate for the beverage package if purchased outright no matter what class of cabin you book.

It's important to understand what promotional offer you booked under and what is "free" versus requires additional fees. Contact your TA or NCL for specific details.

  7. We were in the GV on the Jewel at Christmas and we did get one dinner complimentary for our party. We've sailed in the GV twice and each time our complimentary dinner has been at Cagneys. Not sure if you have the option of selecting from all of the specialty restaurants. I'd suggest calling the pre-concierge line and asking your question.

  8. We did a small cabana for our family of six off the EPIC in February. I used the $50 shore excursion credit plus 10% platinum reduction to bring the price down. The cabana had plenty of room for all of us and was an easy home base as individuals walked straight out to the beach to swim or take off for their wave runner shore excursion. The head maitre-d from the Haven Restaurant was in charge of cabana service. He was on shore supervising for the day. Service was excellent.

  9. I have traveled on the Star in both the family suite and the 2 bedroom with my best friend. The family suite has more comfortable sleeping for both people. You have multiple options. Split the bed into two lowers. Both very comfortable. Have the room steward bring down the bed in the dining table area and make that up. There are curtains and sliders to move around to add privacy options. You do have to share the bathroom. But it is large and easy to move around each other. Also, very comfortable setup for lounging in the room. Coffee / breakfast in the morning, etc. lots of space.

The 2 bedroom gives you increased privacy for two solos. But one of you gets the smaller bedroom and bathroom. I've slept in both the smaller bedroom and the master. The master is extremely comfortable with great bathroom and shower. The smaller bedroom bed is not as comfortable. The room steward will bring in extra mattress padding to improve comfort. The bathroom is functional. Reasonable size shower. I had no problems with the smaller room but I'm not that picky about bathroom size etc. the living room area is nice and allows one person to stay up or get up early without disturbing the other. The balcony is small. Two chairs and a side table.

Both rooms get the same suite perks. If you two are used to traveling together I'd save the money and stay in the family suite. If you like a little more privacy then go for the 2 bedroom. I will say that the family suites on deck 12 are convenient to pool deck and buffet, if that is a factor for you.

  10. I've sailed in the haven 2 bedroom on the epic with my family. And am booked on it again in October with my adult daughter. I've slept in the second bedroom and my daughter will be in it in October. The second bedroom is small. But for a single adult it is okay. The bed worked for me. Not as comfortable as the master. The room steward will bring in an extra mattress pad if you want it softer. The room steward and the butler go out of their way to make sure everyone is comfortable. I'd rather stay in the 2nd bedroom than have someone in my party book another room on a different deck on the ship. The living room area cabin is definitely big enough for 3 adults.

The second bedroom does have its own bathroom with a shower.

  11. Thanks for the suggestion. I have been researching and did find both tour operators get great reviews. Our group has such varied interests that private might have to be the answer. The two guys (8 and 40) want to zip line. The 8 yr old girl wants animals. The two gals (36 and 60) like the beach. So I think we have to compromise and do a little of what everyone wants or split in to two groups for that day.

  12. My multi-generational family will be visiting Grand Caymans in December 2014 off the Carnival Conquest. We are looking for an excursion (private or ship run) that will have something for everyone. Ages run 8, 13, 36, 40, 60. Everyone is up for moderate physical activity. Some beach time ok. But not looking for beach/snorkeling intensive. Ideas?

  14. On a review of a recent cruise running out of the San Pedro Cruise terminal for the NCL Star the poster mentioned that they had to go through one of the new "full body scanners". Do you know if that is true? Has the Port Authority changed over to the new "full body scanners" that are used by the TSA at the major airports or are they using the standard airport walk thru "metal detectors"?

Anyone know the answer to this?
