  1. Yes, we're on the Aug 18 eastbound. As I said just SO surprised to not see a B&W. Hadn't realised they don't always appear in the summer months like they do in the Autumn/Winter. Thanks folks, knew somebody would know

  2. We regularly do Transatlantics but usually in the Autumn season. On the QM this August and amazed to discover no Black & White night. There's Roaring 20s, Masquerade and that ubiquitous "gala evening" malarky. We will be wearing B&W but is it normal not to schedule a named one in the summer?

As far as deals go with Cunard I have had a number but the most lucrative in terms of cost savings has to have been our 2016 Queen Mary 2 Christmas Trans Atlantic in Queens Grill, a 4 night New York stay at the Hilton New York Fashion District and return flights to UK.

    And the cost?

£1729.00 per person. No wonder we were smiling...

  4. Bring along a copy of John Maxtone-Graham's "The Only Way to Cross" (the copy in the library will probably be gone by the time you get there), find a nice proper deck chair and unless it's pouring with rain, sit outside and savour the subtle pleasures of a good book, the damp salt air of the North Atlantic and the most sublime of all destinations: mid Atlantic on an ocean liner.

  5. We've got three cruises booked with Cunard. The first one in July is under the "new designation". We'll be waiting to see what happens before we book anymore because, like most on here, we go because it's one of the only places to still get the proper clothes out. Why, oh why, did they do it

  6. We sail quite a lot but have never done a W/C...or Grand Voyage as they are now looking at 2020. Over time we've booked on ship/on shore/Cunard price/early saver and such a last minute saver we've been travelling to Southampton within a week. The W/C is the biggie though. Are there any tips for getting the best deal?

  7. We experienced the same phenomenon on QE W/C in 2016-while I enjoyed the Australian stops, the “day tripper” feeling during our time in Australia altered the atmosphere. They were generally nice folks but had NOT A CLUE about what longer term cruisers were expecting. Just saw the 2020 QM2 itinerary-Cunard will probably do the same thing between Brisbane and Fremantle-Buyer Beware!;)

We were on QM a few years ago for Capetown-Perth and many Australians were on board for the run home. The first few days were certainly an eye opener but it was just a case of going with the flow and, boy, can they party!:D

  8. My suitcase is currently enjoying a world cruise on the Queen Elizabeth without me! We disembarked in San Francisco last week and will pick it up on the ships return to Southampton mid May. I didn't see it publicised but you can leave a 23kg case on board and pick it up from the dock at the end of the cruise for $50. It seemed a bargain saving not only excess baggage charges but also trying to manoeuvre two large cases around the airport. I've left all my formal wear in it as well as a thick pair of winter boots needed in New York (may have been a mistake in hindsight as I've just seen the weather forecast for the next week here.....)

It's got mine for company as we did the same. Just didn't want to take all the formal wear etc. with us as we toured California. Asked the desk if it would get an invite to the World Dinner:D

  9. We're joining the QE at the weekend and disembarking in SF. As we're not flying home for a while we're thinking of sending one of the cases home before us. We've done it before and know it's expensive but it makes life so much easier. Does anybody know current prices as they don't seem to be on the Cunard website?

  10. We have stopped going to some WCC parties due to the overcrowding but the last Senior Officers' party we attended was on the penultimate day of this year's QV World Cruise. It was a lunchtime affair in the Queens room and I would say around 100 passengers [could have been more but the room was very 'roomy'] attended. It was a delightful occasion and I would say the smart casual dress code was upheld well.

I'm glad it worked on the QV, the upholding of smart casual certainly didn't seem to on the B2B first leg. Didn't attend on the way back as we were so underwhelmed by it with the loss of the (as Solent Richard said) WE ARE CUNARD ideal.

  11. Just off the B2B. The Senior Officer's Party was held at 11.15am in the morning and the dress code seemed to be as casual as possible. It seems it has only recently happened and the Senior Officers don't like it at all. Was told it had moved because QE & QV have so many attend they have to hold two so they have decided to do the same time across all 3. Anybody know if this is actually true?

I can't write my views on what I really think about the time and lack of dress code (plenty of t-shirts in evidence) for what used to be THE party for folk at the top of the loyalty cruise programme, the clothes don't matter brigade would hit the keyboard with so much glee, but would it be so bad for some standards to be kept up?

  12. Trays are there, just ask about them. We were on the QM2 in April and I used to come down from sunbathing aloft for afternoon tea to take back up. The first time I asked if there was an possibility of a tray.......the maître-d looked at me, smiled and queried if I was "picnicing?" I took the tray upstairs and made sure it went back to deck 7 when we'd finished.

I'm sure if you asked they would find one for your wife

  13. We've had that cabin but on the port side...if that makes sense. We always take a sheltered balcony if possible as they are bigger than glass fronteds. They don't get as much sun but as has been said you can always stand up to look out. The less sun means they are cooler in the hotter parts of the world. Also you can dry your smalls out there.

We're joining the ship in Dubai and are in that cabin but deck 6
