  1. We have a 12:30 flight as well, Do you remember the times?

Sorry I don't remember exactly. I think they were every hour, maybe. We took the 8:30 I think. The surprise was the long line up to pick up our luggage at the airport. It is in a tent, and the line was outside, and it started to rain...

  2. Thanks rocklinmom,

But we have a midday flight. so hope the transfers are early.

I was on the Star and they offered different transfers depending on your flight time. Our flight was 12:30. We didn't take the earliest and got there in plenty of time.

  3. I was wondering the same thing. To make things even more difficult, I am allergic to shellfish (but can eat normal fish) and don't eat red meat. Are there enough choices in Cagneys (and Le Bistro for that matter) for me, or will they amend any dishes that have shellfish in them? I really like chicken and am happy with sides and vegetarian. Thanks

As long as you give them advance notice about your allergies they are wonderful at amending dishes.

  4. I had the sea bass a couple of weeks ago and it was very good. I don't remember it being like a soup though. I also had the chicken (truffle chicken I think) and really enjoyed it. Don't avoid cagney's because you don't eat red meat. I did for years and it was a mistake!

  5. OBC from NLC & TA cannot be used on gratuity..OBC from NCL Credit Card points can be used for gratiuity...Spoke with NCL and points dept this week on the very subject...

It depends how the TA has purchased the OBC. Mine was considered refundable.

And be sure to differentiate between gratuity and DSC. If you leave gratuities in a specialty restaurant or bar or if you do a tip for your butler from your account, non-refundable will be used. It is the DSC that it isn't used for.

  6. Hi all

The Star dailies has these classes listed in the fitness centre but no description so I have a couple of questions.

Has anyone taken part in the morning Fab Abs class? Is it all mat work crunch type exercise or is there some cardio? Is it 1/2 hour?

And does anyone know what the fee for the cycle class is and how long it is?

    Thanks

  7. So the luggage tags are a separate occasion then, I assume? Are those too hit or miss...again, I know it seems petty, but it is a suite perk and I'll be darned if they try to skip out on one that was included in the price (again, I am full aware of the petty-ness)

(ps. thanks for the responses...we will wait some more and come a couple weeks, if nothing I'll call.)

The tags are a separate mailing, and they go to your TA if you used one. I have consistently received mine.

  8. My tags went to my TA this week, and I'm 3 weeks out. There was a letter included that said I could contact the concierge desk which I did. She then sent me the choices letter by email. I'm also in Canada so that may make a difference.

  9. If you like the smaller ship experience the Spirit is great. Older yes, but very nice. If you like big shiny bright ships with all the latest bells and whistles for activities and entertainment then the Spirit may not be the best choice for you. I love the Spirit and wouldn't hesitate to cruise her again.

  10. Hi Keith, thanks for the trip report.

We are on the Star in 4 weeks doing the Iceland cruise, and are wondering if there were any special themed dinners offered. In the past we have experienced one called A taste of India, that we really enjoyed, as well as the Jazz brunch and chef's table. As ours is a 14 day, I hope they mix it up a bit!

  11. The non-refundable OBC can't be used for DSC. It might be possible to use it for the grats on the UBP, if you are buying the drink package on the ship. If you have it as a promo the grats are included in your final payment, so will need to be paid before you get on the ship. OBC can only be used on board.

  12. I am an x-case of bottled water lugger. I just bought a brita water bottle for $10, which reduces the level of chlorine. We will use it in our room to fill our water bottles. Easier than the old way of lugging a case of water, and cheaper than buying bottles on board, and more environmentally friendly.

  13. In Victoria you want salmon, halibut, oysters, crabs, spot prawns. Forget lobster.

There is a place called Finest at Sea, that is not too far from where the ships dock, on the way towards fisherman's wharf which has a food cart, but it might not be open late enough. http://www.finestatsea.com. There is fish and chips right down at fisherman so wharf, but not great in my experience.

If you want casual, but good, try http://www.redfish-bluefish.com.

If you want upscale, and the opportunity to have lobster, http://10acreskitchen.ca/kitchen-menu#menu is very good. Warning, Victoria is expensive...

  14. Hello all,

It's just a couple of days until my "100 days" (I'm in the Haven) and I'm wondering what time of day I can start making reservations. Is it in the morning? Is it 100 days exactly from sailing? Is it midnight?

    Thanks!

    :-) Mallory

Midnight eastern time I believe. I'm on the west coast and was able to make my reservations at 9pm local time, as soon as MyNCL said I had 100 days to go.

  15. I posted this information in another thread but it's something that is probably useful for cruise passengers visiting Reykjavik:

    --

I'd highly recommend walking from the port to the downtown area if you are fit enough. It is a designated walking path, not a pavement and should take about 20-30 minutes. You'll walk past several sites that you might otherwise miss: Hofdi, The Sun Voyager and Harpa.

When you get to Harpa (take a look inside it is a stunning building, especially the view on main stairway) just continue walking on the path on the harbour itself where you'll probably walk past the Icelandic "navy", some fishing boats, Hotel Marina, the dry dock and continue all the way to the best Icecream shop in Iceland, Valdis.

To return walk towards Kristkirkja and then towards Hallgrimskirkja through the downtown area. I'd recommend walking up Skolavordustigur for the best view of Hallgrimskirkja.

Then just get lost for a few hours, wander about and notice Reykjavik's main distinction from other capitals (apart from its small size): No two houses look the same.

    Very useful! Thanks

  16. I don't think anyone has answered the cocktail party question yet. Alcohol would not be free. If you have bottles and mixes already then serving would be possible I think, but it would be appropriate to include an appropriate tip for this service at the end of the cruise. I have not done this myself, maybe someone who has can answer how cocktail parties work for you.
