Carl Hiaasen is really fun. Always a great read. One truly laugh-out-loud book is Christopher Moore's "Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal", (which should only be read by those not easily offended and with a sense of humor about Christian history). One of my all-time favorites.

I love to read books that have to do with the places I am visiting, like "Caribbean", by Michener, or the novel "Aztec" by Gary Jennings, which gets you interested in the time and much more excited about visiting the Aztec pyramids, lol. Warning--it's fictionalized and quite gory, but soooo much fun. "Caribbean" is an amazing book, but not really something that you could read in one cruise...it's pretty dense reading. I'd try to start that one a few weeks before you go, but it will really enrich your experience of the Caribbean.

Another 'queen for a day' story, lol. I was always afraid to cruise, because of seeing the old titanic b&w movie, "A night to remember" as a kid. Scared me to death so much that I never wanted to go out of sight of land on a boat again. But several years ago my father died, followed in a year by my mother, then closely by my adult brother. As my remaining 3 siblings and I sat at that 3rd after-burial luncheon stunned, we decided to go on a bonding vacation together. Just us, no spouses, no kids. The other 3 thought of a cruise, so I went along without mentioning the phobia. Against all odds, I loved it. LOVED IT! So now, I'm 5 weeks away from my 3rd. Taking my kids this time, for thier first. I sure hope they love it as much as I did. It's not a financially great time. DH got a big paycut. But so have lots of other people. There have been some health concerns. But so what. Memories are everything. Can't wait!

Mh husband had been after me for years to cruise, and I had resisted. I had always been phobic about deep water because of that old black and white Titanic movie. Used to scare me to death as a kid. I used to freak out if we went out of sight of land in a motor boat, lol. Then we had a number of deaths in my birth family, and my remaining siblings wanted to bond. We decided to go on a vacation together. When they voted to do a cruise, I didn't want to make an issue of the whole water thing, and I just stayed quiet about it. Turned out I loved it! We even ran into a gale in the Gulf of Mexico, and it was a blast! We all sloshed around in the pool like little kids, laughing our butts off. So many of the people who think they'll hate it would probably love it.

Anyone have any info on the new piano bar guy, Gordon something? how is he? We're sailing on March 15. Thanks!

Another vote for 'none of the above'. I also wish there was no smoking in most places on board. I'd spend more money in the casino if I could breath in there. Ditto with the lounges and piano bar. There should be smoke free areas or nights of both. Or really good ventilation. (Perhaps a paid area for smokers? lol....JK)
