  1. Wonlife4,

My husband, 15 YO son, and myself are looking into doing this as well. In case we don't get an answer from those that did this last year, would you like to look into getting together to either figure out local transportation or share transportation costs?

I have done a lot of research and I think this is the best bet for both fireworks, Boston Pops, and food doesn't sound bad either....

    Thanks,

    Stephanie

That would be great to get together on the ship to make a plan, especially coming back to the ship after the fireworks. From my research it sounds like using metro transportation is the best option. From what I have discovered and after emailing Community Boating there is a bus station outside the cruise port and then you transfer to the train which takes you within easy walking distance of Community Boating. I have also read that in the past there is no charge to ride the Metro after the fireworks. I have not heard if this will be the case this year.

I did purchase my tickets yesterday. Sounds like a very good option and yes the food sounds great. I also like that, even though it is not cheap, much of the money goes to support their youth sailing programs.

  2. Lots of great things to do in Boston on the 4th. We found a fundraiser for a sailing club for kids that was situated right on the river near the Boston Pops bandshell area. We sat on deck chairs and enjoyed the fireworks after a day walking the Liberty Trail downtown.

Long shot if you are still around as your post was from awhile back. We are sailing this itinerary on Celebrity this July 2018. I also happened across this fundraising event and did some checking into it. Looks like a great venue to watch the fireworks. I do have a question, how did you get to the location and then back to the ship. Community Boating suggests taking public transportation.

  3. We usually book insides, but the deal we got on Anthem this past January was too good to pass up. $2,245 total for 2 people for 12 nights in a balcony cabin plus we booked using our Discover Cash back bonus and got another $200 off and we got our $200 Shareholder OBC.

Wow! I would think that would be a really good deal for an inside cabin but a great deal for a balcony!!! Good to hear you still received your shareholders OBC with this deal. Not sure why others are having trouble. Hopefully it all works out for them.

  4. They must like me because I never get turned down. We just sailed Anthem in January had 30% BOGO plus Diamond Balcony Discount and still applied and got our shareholder OBC. We have also always gotten it on Celebrity Cruises when booking with Senior or Resident Rates. These rates never include any drink packages, etc. so there are no other perks included.

I also have never been denied my Shareholder Credit on RCL or Celebrity. We usually book an inside cabin though without any perks except a small amount of OBC from our TA.

  5. Yes... chair/umbrella rentals still available. . Usually 2 chairs, an umbrella, wifi and a couple drinks for $20

Agree...we have rented chairs/umbrella for several years now. I can't recall about the wifi but that may vary depending on which place you stop at. There are places to rent all along the boardwalk. We like going to Great Bay because it is an easy and safe walk from the cruise pier.

  6. do you know, if at the Amsterdam cheese shop, if they sell the cheese wheels of Gouda encased in wax? Thats what I want. No problems with going through customs

I would have to believe it is encased in wax. It looks like it from the pictures I have seen. They know much of their business is from tourists off the cruise ships. If you read the reviews on TripAdvisor it sounds like many people buy to bring back home.

  7. Amsterdam cheese and liquor store is lovely and has lots of choices. This would be my recommendation. It's at DOC Maarten beside Chesterfields restaurant. It's on the walk to town so it's very near the port.

As stated the Amsterdam Cheese Store should have what you are looking for. I have stopped here several times but have not actually bought any of the cheeses. It is a short walk from the cruise port. Upon leaving the port take a left. According to Google Maps it is only 450 meters, which seems about right. The store is also on your left.

  8. I received an email and automated phone message from RC stating that they are boarding the ship based on the deck your cabin is on. I have been on quite a few cruises and have never seen this before. Is this something they have recently started doing? Do you think they will not allow you to board if you show up earlier then your scheduled time? We always like to get to the ship as early as possible to maximize our time on the ship.

  9. A different angle to this question. We are sailing soon on Celebrity and originally booked an inside guaranteed room. We were assigned a room a month or so ago. Does anyone know when any upgrade may be given? I have only booked a guaranteed room once on another line and was upgraded twice prior to arriving.

    Thank You

  10. Unfortunately no. I have not been on the Oasis or Allure maybe someone else will chime in. I know the Radiance, Jewel, Brilliance & Serenade have the outdoor seating for sure within the windjammer. As far as the others (Voyager, Freedom & Vision classes) you can always take your food from the Windjammer & eat it outside by the pool, solarium & the pool's peripheral seating. Which many people do. You won't get the view of the ships wake, but you'll see the port & starboard view.

Only wish the Voyager class ships had outdoor seating. It is true you can take your food out to the pool deck or to other outside decks but I don't recall any tables so you have to eat with food in your lap.

  11. My son and I will be in Roatan on our NCL Sun cruise in Mach and based on what I have read here and elsewhere will be booking with Victor. I requested information from his website and already heard back from him. The biggest problem is trying to decide what to do with all the great possibilites posted here. I have two questions, being there is only two of us does Victor combine us with another group? And what do people tip the tour guide (in addition to the set fee)? Just curious so I am fair to the guide.

    Thnaks!
