1. I just got off of the Anthem and it was announced to the crew and also to C&A members that the Oasis is coming to Bayonne in 2020.  We met with NextCruise to see if they had more info and all she could see is that it will be there in May, 2020.  Adventure is going to be there May 15, 2020.  Doesn't make sense that no ships would be going out of Bayonne for almost a month since Anthem leaves on April 12.  I guess we will know for sure when they release the itineraries for both.

  2. We just got off of the Anthem and ran into the same problem.  I will maybe get one drink a day but my husband drinks more.  First crew member we approached wouldn't sell the deluxe to only my husband.  We said no thanks and walked away.  Approached another crew member selling the packages and he had no problem selling the deluxe to my husband and the refresh package to me.  He would have sold the soda package to me but I wanted the specialty teas and fresh squeezed OJ.  So if you decide you want it, just keep asking until you get the answer you want - just like when you call them!  🙂

  3. I got my cabin back!!!! They finally called just before I left work and let me know. I was so happy it didn't occur to me to ask why it had been changed in the first place when my settings were for no upgrade. I will be sending a letter or email to royal about this and will be sure to mention how nice the resolutions woman was. They probably think I am a nut for giving up a D4 for a DO but it was the same size room with a smaller balcony. That is a downgrade in my book since I spend a lot of time enjoying it.

  4. If you don't want your upgraded cabin, you need to be persistent and go thru the different departments. I was on hold for quite a while, as they were hashing it out on the other end. At least I didn't find out about the upgrade as I was checking in...so I had enough time to throw a polite, but stern, hissy-fit. :D

Starry eyes I don't know why they did this as they never even called me about it. I sure hope no one called and did this on my behalf but i doubt it as everyone i am traveling with that had an obstructed view was upgraded. I don't care about the obstruction and want my big balcony and lower deck back. Right now resolutions is going to talk to revenue to see about getting our original stateroom back. Supposedly going to call me tomorrow after waiting on hold for 40 minutes. You just know they will call the second my boss walks in my office. :D

  5. We just got upgraded today and our option was set for no upgrade. I chose the location of our original cabin for a reason - it had a bigger balcony due to the location and it was not next to any others from our group (I like my privacy). Now I have a smaller balcony and I have people I know on either side of us. I'm going to try calling when I get home and hope that I can at least get moved elsewhere. If they won't honor the upgrade preferences why bother giving us the choice!

  6. A lot of people think the same way which made the insides and oceans views on our Anthem cruise significantly more than the obstructed balconies.

The obstructed balconies were then the first to sell out though

I've only recently started to get into cruising again but my thinking was that sitting outside with whatever view I got and fresh air with a book/food/drink would be more enjoyable than sitting inside with the screen.

Who knows though, I took the saving on the OB and a cruise is a cruise at the end of the day and beats work :)

    Greg

I agree with you 100%. I spend a lot of time on our balcony and usually have to position myself so I can't see the water below us going by as it makes me seasick - the obstructed view solves that problem! As long as I can sit outside and enjoy the fresh air with privacy I'm happy. An inside cabin was only $200 cheaper when we booked so it was a no-brainer to go to the balcony for us (obstructed or not).

  7. Are cold, soggy fries the norm in the Northeast.

If so, you'll love the Windjammer on Freedom.

Sorry, but I've never had hot, fresh fries in the Windjammer.

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using Forums mobile app

Actually the fries on the Adventure were fantastic - hot and very tasty. Hoping the same will be found on the Quantum next year.

  8. We're from MA and almost always cruise during April vacation week. We've never had a problem with too many kids because other parts of the country (and the world for that matter) aren't on vacation.

And as for the prices, there have been times where it was actually cheaper to cruise that week compared to the week before or after. Flights weren't terrible either.

We've been on the Freedom once and LOVED it! You will have a fantastic time!

  9. So I am not alone in having this problem...that is good to hear although not really good because it does mean there are problems with the site. :(

Definitely not alone. I've only been able to see the Solarium Bistro since last night. This morning gifts and photos are the only items available to purchase. Now when I try to get in using Internet Explorer all I get is a white screen. Using Google Chrome I can log in but still only gifts and photos available for purchase. Very frustrating.

  10. A must-see if Maho Beach and Bernard will know the best time to bring you there. He also took us to Orient beach which was nice but be forewarned that a section of it is clothing optional and there is pretty much no sight barrier between the two. Those were the two most memorable stops but we did go to other places that I can't remember right now. We had a fantastic day with Bernard and highly recommend him.

  11. I did not say I was charged when I booked Coastal Kitchen and the agent did not say I would be charged a fee....I was not and it does appear as 0.00 USD on our printed out reservations. We are Diamond and in a balcony. If you go to RCI website, hit Quantum of the Seas and then dining, you can view all restaurants and menus. In Coastal Kitchen it states that it is complimentary to Jr Suites and above and $$ icon for others. I guess about $25 pp to dine there. I was stating that if later on, they want to charge me, I will pay it....no complaining from me, but I do have my printed copy as proof!!

Has anyone looked at the menus? We have and I cannot recall if I saw any of the "cold soups" ( watermelon, peach, etc.) or escargot on any of the menus. Cannot recall seeing many of the "hot soups" that are on current MDR menus.

Someone else check it out , maybe we did not see everything.

swsf99a - I didn't see any of the "cold soups" either and I'm disappointed because I LOVE LOVE LOVE them. You know what else I noticed isn't there that I can see, even in Chops, is Prime Rib. Prime Rib night in the MDR was always our favorite. I don't recall seeing escargot but as I don't eat it, it's not something I would notice.

  12. I'm going to miss the traditional dining but it is what it is. It's not enough of a disappointment that we're going to cancel our cruise as we booked for the ship, not the food. To be honest we were kind of disappointed with the menu on our cruise on the Adventure last year. We have very simple tastes so we'll skip most of the reservation recommended venues as the menus didn't appeal to us. There's a part of me that is looking forward to just going to eat when we want instead of setting up a time or waiting in stand-by lines. I am still so very excited to go on the Quantum!! :)

  13. We booked an obstructed view cabin and from the computer rendering it looks like we'll be looking down on a lifeboat. Not a big deal to me as long as I can sit outside and listen to the waves in the privacy of my balcony. I heard that if you have a specific cabin in mind you can call Royal and they can tell you how much of an obstruction there will be.

  14. You have to depend on a new tourist photo to catch a glimpse of some people...

    April12014photobytourist_3_zps4a282516.jpg

WOW, THANK YOU!!!! This is exactly the picture I've been waiting for as our room is going to be one of the cabins that are right at the beginning of the hump. I wanted to see what the balcony is going to be like since it looked on the deck plans that it would be a little bigger. Woo-hoo!! Makes up for the obstructed view! :D

  15. The various dining rooms look beautiful as do the place settings. But most of the food (with the exception of most of the desserts) look far too gourmet for a basic meat and potatoes guy like me. Time will tell and perhaps I will find menu items in some or all of the five free dining venues that appeal to me, but the fancy, shmancy foods that send foodies into nirvana and which the video emphasizes aren't my style.

I feel exactly the same way - we are not fine dining people. Jamie's Italian, Chops and the Grande are the only fancy restaurants that I was able to find something that I would definitely eat. I'm trying to change my attitude and be positive about the new dining. Positives - unless we eat somewhere where we would need a reservation, we can eat whenever we want. I could eat pizza for dinner every night :D:D:D:D (I LOVE pizza). Wouldn't have to change out of shorts for most of the places we would want to eat in. Won't feel rushed to get ready for dinner on non-reservation nights. Cons - probably won't be eating with the majority of our group every night. Different wait staff every night - no more getting to know them over the course of the cruise. I am really going to miss that. I know we can do formal in the Grande but I will miss the nights when a majority of the ship would dress up. It always felt like such a special night.

You never know, we may end up liking this more.

  16.
You know, I really enjoy the MDR and having the same wait staff every night and getting to know them and them us. Love having all our favorites ready for us as soon as we walk in so if they don't follow us, I'm going to be bummed if it's rotational and they don't come with us.
We feel exactly the same way. On our last cruise we were a group of mostly family and our assistant waiter started referring to us as his family. We just loved him and would look for him in the Windjammer every morning to say hello. It's not a deal breaker but very disappointing.
  17. If they do away with the traditional dining in the MDR we will be very disappointed but it won't be a deal breaker. Having the same servers is one of the best parts of our dining experience and we enjoy getting to know them. Plus we're a group of 12 and we love to dine together so trying to get everyone on the same page of where to eat and when will be oh so much fun. I sure hope that the speculation is wrong but I guess we'll all find out tomorrow.

  18. We always use a lanyard but most of the time I put mine under my shirt or attach it to my beach bag so that the wind doesn't whip the card into my face. It would get lost if I put it in my pocket and having it on the lanyard is more convenient that putting it in a wallet or something. DH keeps his card on a lanyard in his shorts/swim shorts pockets as they are pretty deep.

My nieces (8 and 10 at the time) wore lanyards when we went to Disney (their choice) and of course had to buy all the pins to cover every square inch. :)

  19. I just looked at the port calendar and when Quantum is in San Juan for my cruise, there will be 5 other ships there too!!! UGHHHHHH :(

It's the same way for our cruise and the other ports we're by ourselves. Find that hard to believe (or we're just really lucky!). At this point I'm so sick of being cold that I wouldn't care if there were 10 ships as long as I could be somewhere warm right now.

  20. We spent more on the package than we would have spent on the individual drinks. So we wouldn't do it again. BUT the big issue is that we ordered a water package for our son. At the time I ordered it (when everything was in transition as the new packages showed up) it stated 500mL bottles. We got 1L bottles. 24 1L bottles of Evian. Holy moly.

When I went to Guest Services, they were shocked we were given 1L because THEIR info said it was 750mL bottles. But when I bought it, it said 500mL.

We were absolutely swimming in water.

I just checked the FAQs on the RCCL site and it says 1L.

In the future, for the way we drink, I would get that same water package and no other package.

I don't *regret* it, because it was good information, but I would make a different decision next time. :D

OMG that happened to us too but all this time I've just figured that I didn't pay enough attention to how big the bottles were! Now I know that most likely it just wasn't good information. Ended up giving half of the water to the in-laws and we still had too much. I'm just glad the water is now included in the alcohol package. We bought the alcohol package for the first time last year and DH definitely did well with it. I probably barely broke even but we'll still each buy the package on our next cruise especially now that the water is included. DH mostly drinks beer but I was trying out different drinks that I never would have before. Found a bartender in the Windjammer that just kept mixing together different shots for me to try out. It was a good day and I now have a new favorite drink. :D

  21. We can't wait! We are sailing the 12 day in April 2015. Having a combination of sea days and port days is perfect. Time to explore the ship and time to sightsee. We returned from the 12 day Equinox in Sept to the Med. Had very little time to see the ship but the itinerary was fab.

We're on the same cruise with you! We can't wait either and I've found a new obsession - tracking the progress of the building of our ship. It's so fascinating to see how they put it together. I love that all the ports are in the middle of the itinerary so we have relaxing days in the beginning and end.
