1. For places to drive to here is a good guide although a bit dated (2014). The guide is free and has no publicity. It is written by Tom Sheridan a fellow cruiser. Pages 27 and onward have itinerary suggestions, maps, GPS coordinates etc. Here it is:

    http://www.tomsportguides.com/uploads/5/8/5/4/58547429/quebeccity-06-30-2014.pdf

Like I have mentioned in other posts, road signs will be in French so I would bring a GPS. Here are some basics: East=Est, West=Ouest, South=Sud, North=Nord, Exit=Sortie etc. Car rentals are used every year by families to head back to the USA without a problem.

For car rental places, I will let other posters answer since I do not live in Québec City and have never rented a car there.

    Thank you for this information!!!

  2. Hi Folks,

Do you think there is any advantage to booking for speciality restaurants on line at RCCL or do most of you wait until you are on board?

I know you get a discount for the first night at sea but we are not going to go the first night...I was just wondering if there are normally plenty of times open or is it too risky to wait? Thanks so much!!!

  3. Just booked a tour with Glory Tours. Sarah was fantastic! She was really quick to respond with a number of emails and questions that I asked her. She was very accommodating as well. I had several areas that were musts for me to be able to go to....she ended up recommended a 1/2 day tour that had 3 of these stops that I had wanted and then said she could have us dropped off at Carlisle Bay so that we could to swimming with the turtles. Swimming with the turtles was the other thing that was on my wish list for Barbados and Sarah worked it out!

I know you can hire a taxi driver and have him take you all over but I have a lot of confidence in going with a reputable company....so I am very happy! Now...I will let everyone know how I like the tour...but so far so good!!!!:D

  4. We've gone with Island Safari for the 4x4 adventure in the past. Highly recommend them.

Unfortunately our ship is in port on a Tuesday and there is nothing available on any Tuesday with Island Safari so I think the cruise line has them all locked up. I think I will be forced to book through the ship. Still think the 4x4 will be fun!

    Thanks!

  5. Hi Darrin, thanks ahead of time for any info. We have never been to St Croix before, it will be our 5th island so we will have done a couple of beach days and a couple of island tours. What is something that is a "must see" for St Croix. we will have already snorkeled...have already done some historic tours, so we are looking for suggestions. Thanks again.

We are kinda in the same situation as Sue....wondering what else is there that we should do? Thanks for any ideas....

  6. I'm bringing this thread back up to see if anyone has any updated info they'd be willing to share.

We'll be in Barbados in early February...just a couple of weeks. WHOOHOO!

We're planning on taking it easy this day. No formal tours...probably just rent a taxi (four of us) and head over to the Bathsheba/Cattlewash area. We don't plan to do any snorkeling or swimming at this port. We also aren't interested in a lot of history. We just want to see some pretty scenery. We wouldn't mind seeing any lighthouses if they are on the way to Bathsheba. We're also considering the Mount Gay Rum tour. Does anyone have any hints or suggestions? Any updates on what we should expect to pay for a taxi for this kind of tour?

Thanks for bringing this thread back up! There is some really good information on this thread but it is indeed in need of updating. We are going to Barbados in March and I am still trying to figure out what to do on this island. We have never been here before. We do not want a Catamaran trip as we were on a Catamaran trip for a whole week in the BVI last year...it was fab but not ready for another one. Interested in the 4 x 4 trips but not sure which one....would like to book with independent company...not the ships..but again having trouble finding one.

We also want to see pretty scenery, would not mind some beach time altho not the whole day and would kinda like to see the monkeys. Thanks so much!!

  7.
Thanks! I will check out the Reflection itinerary. Starting to feel better about trying Celebrity!
We have found Celebrity to be a step up from RCCL and we like RCCL but Celebrity is superior. Took Princess to Alaska and we were pleased but have not gone back to Princess since (no particular reason except we prefer RCCL or Celebrity) Agree with others that NCL was disappointing and Carnival...we have never been on.

    Good luck with your decision!!!

  9. 1.) Get rid of the Diamond + pins.

2.) Keep real bartenders, not mechanical ones.

3.) Add some better drink options, some craft cocktails perhaps. None of that Island Oasis syrup garbage.

4.) Ban all Raiders fans. There is no place for these individuals on any of the ships.

5.) It would be cool to have a true "sports bar" that serves food/beverages. Lots of passengers are huge fans of European Football, NFL, NCAA football & basketball, NBA basketball, and MLB.

6.) How hard is it to make a good pizza? Not hard.

7.) Build an expedition size ship to go on very exotic itineraries. 200 passengers max.

8.) Stop all itineraries that visit Russia. Russians are not to be trusted, why would RCCL promote tourism there.

Ban all Raider fans???? My husband and I are huge Raider fans and we are really nice people....why would you want to ban us?

  10. Our groups has done the 4x4 and green monkeys and found it very enjoyable. It is quite wonderful to walk among the animals. We enjoyed this one so much we have chosen to do it again! Whichever you choose, I'm sure you will enjoy.

Thanks Sue! I think I am leaning toward doing this tour! Thanks again!

  11. We did the 4x4 and Harrison's cave April 2014 Hubby and I are in our late 40's and got quite bored! You ride a train like tram down into the cave and can get out in a couple of spots for pictures. We enjoyed the 4x4 part but wouldn't want to do the caves again!

In fact we will be back in April and unfortunately you can't do the 4x4 independently you have to do through the ship so we are just going to find a tour guide to take us on a tour of some different spots on the island as we don't think $40 more per person is worth riding in the back of a truck especially since it's times 5!

Thanks tidygirl for your feedback!!! I think I can put the caves to rest....still considering doing the 4 x 4's and the green monkeys.....I will continue doing some research on the area tho. Thanks again! Wendy

  12. They are both pretty good tours. Personally I would go for the one that includes Harrisons Cave.....mainly because the caves are a one of a kind attraction.

Thanks Keith for your response.....I have heard that the cave is ok..but if you have seen other caves not really that fantastic...I am torn. I use to work for an Orthopedic surgeon in Orlando, FL and one of our patients lived in Barbados but he flew to the states for his medical care....we called him the monkey man because he worked with the monkeys in Barbados...I think I lean that way because of him. I also want to see as much of the island as possible. If I have seen other caves..is this one better than average??? Thats what I am struggling with. We went snorkeling last year in the BVI for a week so not really looking for snorkeling on this trip. Thanks again for posting!!!!

  13. We are interested in doing a 4x4 tour of this island. They both travel along the coast as well as in the tropical areas, 1 goes to Harrison Caves; while the other goes to see wildlife and monkeys....... here is the description from the RCCL site of the other choice...See playful green monkeys and colorful birds as you ride through a lush Barbados forest on a rugged 4x4 vehicle. Tour the island's Wildlife Reserve on foot and on wheels, on this captivating tour deep into the island's interior. Keep your eyes peeled for glimpses of the elusive Barbados Green Monkey. Kidneys from these small primates have produced more than 70 percent of the world's polio vaccines. Afterwards, enjoy breathtaking vistas from the Scotland District. I do not like to book through the ship but I might have to this time. The main company who does this tour is not available on Tuesdays when our ship is in port....probably because the cruise ships have all the available times all taken up.

Anyway, has anyone done either one of these 4 x 4 tours in Barbados? Any input appreciated. Thanks so much!!!

  14. I really want to go Horseback riding on the beach here. Has anyone heard anything about Rendezvous Tours? They have a horseback riding excursion and you are allowed to take the horses into the water at the end of the tour...I think this sounds fantastic! Has anyone heard anything pro or con on this tour or this company? Thanks!

  15. We rode horses on the back side of the island - Runaway Beach near Sandals - it was phenomenal. I think Carnival was charging $170 pp for a big group tour. We asked when we got on port and someone called Uprising Stables for us. A cab took us out there and we had an hour long private ride for $50 pp (just my hubby and I on Runaway Beach, which was very long and completely empty!). It was magical - total bucket list moment. My horse was named G Man and hubby's was named Christopher Columbus. If you see them, tell G Man Whitney says hi!

This sounds like a fantastic thing to do! Do you know if you can book this in advance? I tried looking for a website but did not see one. Thanks!
