  1. Check Secret Harbor. The beach is smaller than Magens but water is most often calm like Magens. In the summer the dive shop offers a popular Tiny Bubbles swim class for toddlers. Many of the guests at the resort have toddlers. Chairs, food and drink are available.

Take a private van taxi there. Super Taxi supposedly has a car seat but not sure what size. http://Http://www.supertaxiservices.com

Taxi driver Coco Brown is another driver with air conditioned van. 340.690.5046. Taxicocobrown1967@yahoo.com

We are thinking about going to Secret Harbor based on things I've read about it. Is there any shade there?

    Thanks,

    Nancy:)

  2. Consider booking a tour w/Ketchikan Taxi Cabs. I've been to Ketchikan five times now, and have done an array of excursions including Misty Fiords Flightseeing w/Island Wings, Neets Bay flight to see bears, and many others, so this past year, wanted to do something different. We booked a three hour tour w/Ketchikan Taxi Cabs and it was great! We didn't want to do the touristy stuff because all of us had been to Ketchikan countless times. Our driver, a local resident who was a wealth of information, took us out to the Totem Bight (it was deserted, we had beat the tour busses!) with our own local guide, got a whole new perspective on life in Ketchikan with a personalized drive-by of the outlying areas, saw tons of eagles and even some whales. Afterwards, he had lunch with us at the Burger Queen (highly recommend!) - where we had some fantastic halibut and chips. Very inexpensive 'excursion' split between four people, which provides a great overview of the area, with plenty of time afterwards to walk to Creek Street or shop in port if that is of interest to you. You tell them where you want to go, and they'll take you. If you aren't familiar with what the town has to offer, they will offer some suggestions and are very accomodating. Picked us up right downtown by Sockeye Sams and off we went. Google their website and check out the prices and the tour options available.

Donald's suggestions are spot on as well. Despite your short time in port, if you plan well, you can get a good overview of what Ketchikan has to offer.

Can you give me an idea what you paid to hire the cab for 3 hours?

    Thanks

    Nancy:)

  3. We walked the trail in October and really enjoyed it. If you take the trail to the end you will end up in the city where there are stores. We didn't have any trouble finding the trail but if you do have trouble - any local person can help you. We found the people that live there to be extremely friendly and helpful. We walked the trail to the city and then walked back to where the bus dropped us off through the city - we did not take the trail back.

I think you will enjoy Corner Brook.

  4. Not trying to cut in on the thread, but, we just left the Summit and this was our worst cruise ever. The ship was a designated training ship even though Guest Services denied this, The ship was filthy, dining (early) in the MDR was a fiasco as tables were assigned but if someone with more "status" wanted your assigned table you were told to leave the table assigned to you. The smoking area on deck 10 had the dirtiest, broken down furniture and it was never cleaned unless someone called Guest Services and asked numerous times for someone to clean it. There was almost non existant bar service unless you went to the bar to get your drink and brought it back to your chair. The crew put on a good front, but if you took the time to listen, they weren't happy either. The list could go on, but the bottom line is that the M class ships seem to be the "red headed stepchildren" of Celebrity. We love the smaller ships on Royal Caribbean but if you want a great cruise, stick to S class on Celebrity. Just our opinion, hopefully others may have smoother sailings.

I found this posting so unlike the experience that we had on that exact same cruise. This was our 3rd cruise on the Summit and it just keeps getting better. The ship and our stateroom were spotless. We could not have asked for a more accommodating crew. During the axipod problem, the Captain and cruise director kept us fully informed at all times. We did not witness not experience any problems in the MDR. As a matter of fact, our waiter was one of the best we have ever had. As on all cruises, we were bombarded with people asking us if we wanted a drink. Since we don't smoke, I cannot comment on the condition of the smoking area.

We had a wonderful cruise and have absolutely NO complaints.
