  1. Picture it, Barbados, 2007.

A chubby girl goes to the Barbados Beach Carnival with her newfound friends. It was a beautiful day. There were 6 of us. When the drinks were gone, we would rotate in 3's to get out of the water and get the drinks for the crowd.

I decided we were forced to get out of the water too often, so I suggested we get enough so we could have 2 drinks a piece. There were no trays. There is video evidence that played on the closed circuit TV on the ship of me stumbling along the path between the beach and the ship carrying 5 drinks.

As the day went on, we were all pretty jolly from the drinks. I began floating happily in the water on my belly enjoying my drinks. Not really noticing that I was heading closer to shore. Eventually, I was laying in the sand. I was trying to get to my feet when this little gem was shot. The headless bikini pointing at me was a pal made on the ship.

I am not much of a drinker, so this was a rare occasion for me. Afterwards, we watched Barbadian gentlemen on stilts performing to island carnival music. It was an entertaining day.

Classic I will be the chubby girl having her boyfriend making those runs...hopefully I am not drowned when he returns:)

  2. We visited Uvas on may5th. It was nice and clean and quiet. We paid the 7.00 admission fee and it included 2 non alcoholic drinks. we also paid to rent the beach bed$10.00 it was much nicer than than having to sit on a chair. We ordered mixed tacos and chips and guacamole for snack. and 2 big margaritas that were just ok and cost 26.00. way too much by my standards. A bug flew and was floating in my drink and when I told and showed the waiter raul I think his name was, He just shrugged his shoulders handed us the food bill and informed us the tip was not included. Go figure. So there went one of the expensive drinks in the trash.

Once we got our beach bed, the unbrella was not very secure so when the wind blew it hit my boyfriend in the face twice. He demanded to be moved because these folks could have cared a less. They moved us to a different location with a more sturdy umbrella.

The beach was clean and very pretty just very rocky. My favorite part of Uvas was my massage with luz she was very sweet and did a great job with my massage. I wish we would skipped the bug infested drink and got a longer massage. I tipped luz well because she was so nice and good at what she does. Sol's glass jewlery was also pretty and she was very nice. I picked up a set for my mom for mothers day. We spent about 3 hours there and moved on to see the rest of the island.

I may visit again next trip but just for the massage and jewerly. I think service could have been much better in the food and drink department.

The host Carmen was very friendly but did little to make the situation right. Just a FYI to any company reps who may read this or other travelers.

  3. Is it mandatory to have a reservation to visit uvas? we were interested in making this a stop for a couple drinks and to buy some of sols pretty jewelry.

We are less than a week out so any information will be helpful.

  4. I hope to be at Uvas on cinco de mayo. I have not made a reservation as of yet because the BF tends to be indecisive. I am hoping since there only 3 ships in port that day we have a chance to come in on a walk in basis. Eduardo?? what do you think?

  5. I thought I would pass this along to all my friends prone to motion sickness......

I get sick riding in a car, basically any moving object. I have tried drammamine (puts me to sleep) bonine which I loved but sometimes still get a little queasy. On this cruise my doctor prescribed me Antivert 25mg. It is a vertigo medication that is absolutely wonderful. Every cruise I have missed at lease 1 day due to sickness. The Antivert helped me tremendously. Plus I was awake and alert not drowsy. the only downside is you need to take it every six hours but well worth it.

Antivert Pronounced: AN-tee-vert Generic name: Meclizine hydrochloride.

If you are prone to motion sickness give it a try.

Can you drink while taking this medicine??
