Could not agree more with Redtravel. I have had both types—entirely enjoyable/good conversation, etc and some that have been almost insufferable. It is definitely luck of the draw.

My wife was diagnosed with early stage FTD Dementia in 2009. We cruised together for over 500 days on Oceania through her advancing stages until the end of 2016 (she passed away from the disease in early 2017). While it can be complicated the Oceania staff was incredibly helpful and understanding; and most passengers were the same with just a few exceptions. It is also very helpful if you have any close friends who are able to cruise with you to “give you a break” now and then with the care giving.
We were able to participate in tours, trivia, spa treatments, afternoon tea, evening shows until our last cruise in 2016 when mobility problems made that more difficult. The memories were worth all the difficulties.

If you just go on the Oceania website you can find all the answers to your questions. Wiks

Very sad news. Jim (and Stan) are legends on this board. He will be missed.

Yes, I actually paid about $3,400 total on our ATW in 2015 (butler and cabin stewards combined). Probably over generous, but fortunately I could afford it and they need it more than I do. Wiks

If the service was the same, why would you tip differently than on a shorter cruise—unless you just cannot afford it?

Just to be fair, on a cruise we were on ending in Athens, the Captain on our Oceania R ship diverted to Santorini (which was not on the schedule)so the passengers could see the sunset there. It was spectacular—we left our dinner in Polo to take pictures. Wiks

I echo the previous post and would add that any island/port we stop at (if affected by Irma) can use any economic benefit we may be able to provide. I am happy to help by not canceling my cruise (and I will be onboard for 116 days). Wiks

I have been on 46 cruise segments with Oceania (and soon will be boarding Riviera for another 116 days). We have been on all the ships except Sirena for numerous days. I could not agree more with the positive comments about the crew (on every ship) and the interaction that takes place--particularly if you put a little effort into it. Wiks

I stayed in 12011 for a month in January, 2017 and did not notice any particular noise coming from above. Wiks

Yes, just let the GDR host/hostess know your request to sit with others as you enter the venue. Wiks

Went to SPB on Oceania in 2011 and they did have a Russian folk dance group perform onboard. Have been there twice since with no repeat. Wiks

Have been around FP 4 times and the only port we have ever had to miss because of rough seas (or any other reason) has been Moorea. Wiks

Although it has been several years now, my experience with Alla from booking thru our 2-day tour was very similar to what you described. Wiks

As someone who also very recently lost a spouse (of 55 years), I also offer my sincerest condolences and hope that in your profound grief, you can find some solace in friends and family as I have. Please take care.

Baristas opens at 6:00AM I believe and is located at the entrance of the GDR--especially convenient if you have breakfast in the GDR. WIKS

We have done a 35, 45, 90, 180 and have a 116 day coming up this year. Have never been bored or thought it was too long--sometimes seemed too short, but of course everyone is different. Wiks

If you notify Oceania that you need gluten free meals, they will arrange to provide to your stateroom, a written list of your options every day. We had a friend on a 16-day cruise on Marina who was extremely happy with this service and option and had no problems during her cruise.

In January, I stayed in an Oceania Suite directly below the spa/workout areas and never heard a peep. Wiks

Those are Oceania Suites on the pool deck level, but down the hall from the Culinary Center. I have stayed in Oceania Suites 4 times--3 times on that side and have yet to be bothered by noise from above, below, the Culinary Center or from the pool area. Wiks

Exactly what I do usually (just as LHT28) and it works great. Also, if you get to Baristas early when no one is there, the Baristas will often fill you in on the ship's "gossip" or even more important issues.
