Has anyone got an Royal Up offer on the Comp Cruise.  Thinking about rolling the dice(sort of speak) taking one of the interior freebees offered.  Right now to upgrade to a balcony I was quoted $800 since I have a 3rd person in the cabin.  Thinking maybe I could get it cheaper trying the Royal UP program if it is available.

Yes, we received the Royal Up offer a day after we booked.  We had paid the upgrade to ocean view and the offer is to obstructed balcony and up to junior suite staterooms.

  2. I guess I don't understand why you don't buy a round trip ticket SFO-YVR-SFO. For most days in May, with a return in June, I'm seeing ~US$350 round trip using Westjet.

Thank you Gardyloo, I did not think to check Westjet. The last time I looked for round trip on A.C. ,it was around $600.00 US$ and with the exchange rate it actually cost more in CA$ doing the round trip than the one way tickets.

  3. We have two cruises next year, one in May and one in June.

In May, our cruise ends in San Francisco and we need a one way flight to Vancouver, Canada. The price on Air Canada SFO-YVR is $297.00 pp flex fare, though tango fare is $269+ $15 to select seat.

In June we need to fly to San Francisco to start the cruise. Also Air Canada YVR-SFO is $$290 flex fare and tango is $267+$15. These are all Canadian dollar prices.

The prices on these flights is about the same since July, a few dollars more now. It looks like there are still lots of available seats on both. Unsure if we should book now or wait a little longer.

Thank you everyone for your insight.

  4. Well I just tried it while on board the Infinity last week. Was told that the OBC had to be taken on the current cruise. That was not what I wanted as I already had OBC for the current cruise. Had previously always been able to take the OBC for the newly booked cruise. So, for the first time in years, I did not do an onboard booking.

I was on the same cruise. When I went to book I told the sales manager, Anita that I do not want the OBC for the current druise. She says that she will email Miami to see if I can use it on the next cruise instead. The next day she says that Miami replied back yes. For my ocean view cabin, I received $125 OBC for next cruise and $200 OBC from the 123go. And they were combinable with the resident's discount. So I guess it depends on who you talked to.

  5. We would not bother with the transfer and simply take a taxi from the boat to the Avignon TGV Station (it is a bit further then the regular train station). From there you can catch the fast and very nice TGV train (you should buy tickets in advance) to Nice Ville where you will have to transfer to the local TER train that will take you Monte Carlo. This journey is going to take you about 4 hours (including the transfer in Nice). If you take the transfer to Marseille and use the train you will actually get on the same exact train that is coming from Marseille....and your transfer will take a lot more time then the train :). And if your transfer drops you at the Marseille Airport it will even take you longer since you would have to take a local train (or some other more expensive transfer) to get to the main Marseille Station (St Charles) to catch that same TGV train which is coming from Avignon.

There is one major downside to travel by train which is you will have to manage your own luggage.

    Hank

Thank you so much for all your helpful information Hank. I will google Avignon TGV station for the schedule and cost. Hope there is an early morning train so that we can get to the port in Monte Carlo by early afternoon to board the ship. How far is the cruise port from the train station in Monte Carlo?

No problem managing our luggage as we are travelling with our carry on luggage and totes only.

  6. Hello,

What is the best way to get to Monte Carlo from Avignon/Marseille on a Sunday next November. Our river cruise ends in Avignon and transfer to Marseille airport. Are there any shuttle from Avignon or Marseille to Monte Carlo? Cost? It seems the train and flying is taking a long time to get there, 6 hours or more. We need to board an ocean cruise there on the same day.

    Thank you for any suggestions.

    Andrea

  7. Hi,

Have anyone paid for their cruise by using e check? There is a 2% discount off the cruise price from Viking for using it. Any pro and cons compared to paying by my mastercard?

    Thanks.

  8. Thank you everyone for your insights.

We will probably book today. The lowest sale price on Air Canada is $969 CAD but only for Mon - Wed. travel days only. The other concern we have is the poor review on the 777 plane with the added row and the tight seats (17 inches width) for the nearly 10 hours flight.

The cruise is leaving from Southampton, October 19 this year.

We checked with choice air but it does not have the non stop flights for our cruise date although they have it for the previous cruise which is a little bit higher than booking on Air Canada.

  9. Checking for our air for cruise in October 19 leaving from South Hampton, England.

The air fare I see on Air Canada, return from Vancouver YVR - London LHR is $1022 CAD per person.

    Oct. 16 YVR to LHR

    Oct. 30 LHR to YVR

Both of these flights are non stop and right now there are still showing lots of seats available, but at what price point should we pull the trigger?

There is a summer sale on now, do we wait for a fall seat sale and hope it covers those dates?

    Thanks.

  10. "BTW, I've heard that Celebrity has lost yet another great cuisine exec (Dominique Gamba) to RCCL. He was a huge asset to Celebrity, and will be missed."

Andy, have you heard what Dominique's new position at RCCL will be?

He is well respected and loved by the crews and his colleagues and guests at Celebrity and I know he will bring his enthusiasm and passion to his new job.
