  1. Social media plan per person for sure, if not everyone is on Facebook or iPhones, they say you can also use WhatsApp, which will allow for cross-platform (iOS, Android, PC) messaging which should cover everyone in your group. Just download the app and follow it's instructions for creating a messaging profile and connecting with each other.

  2. Based on the OP's screenshot, I think the confusion started with the fact that Carnival has named their Internet cafes "hubs" (Fun Hub?) and now they have this new app called the hub as well... The carnival info says the Internet cafe is available on all ships and wifi is available on all ships, but not that the Hub App is available on all ships. Maybe Carnival should consider some branding changes

  3. We're on the Nov 1st sailing. First time in Charleston for both of us.

Where is a decent hotel? Looks like North Charleston? We're NOT Suite people who can afford the $250 plus/night for the places near the Port!

We also will be driving & parking at the Port. Any suggestions re: "Once u get near the Port, don't miss the Right/Left turn at ......" Thanx! Joe

Honestly, if you are planning on driving in and parking, I would look more at Mount Pleasant or even the Goose Creek/N Charleston or Summerville areas to stay. Summerville has a lot of restaurants/shopping available as does the GC/NC area around Northwoods Mall, are cheaper, and your chance of finding decent areas to stay is higher. YES, you would be about 30 minutes away from the port the next morning but its an easy drive down I26 to the port from there and you avoid the cost of staying downtown or near the port. If you're coming in a day early, you have time to visit downtown and check out the market area and King Street. In MP you could stay out near the Towne Centre and probably find some more affordable places and be about 15 minutes from the port. I may be partial to GC and Summerville though, that was more my neck of the woods growing up.

Going to the port is easy enough, they have signs posted for "Cruise Traffic" that will lead you straight in to the parking area, roughly it directs you by the SC Aquarium first and then into the Union Pier parking circus.

  4. Just got off the Fantasy with a 6 yo. Of course, they can order anything off the MDR menu (he tried the alligator fritters one night and the strip steak one night).

The children's menu is standardized though:

    Hamburger

    Cheeseburger

    Hot Dog

    Chicken Nuggets

    Fries

    Pepperoni Pizza

    Cheese Pizza

    Ham and cheese

    PB&J

    Grilled Cheese

it was options along that line and it was the same every night and basically looked like Lido Buffet offerings brought to the dining room.

  5. Tenga1899,

Did you do a fixed seating or Anytime Dining? We will be on the Fantasy in July with Anytime Dining and I'd love a wait staff suggestion to ask for. If you didn't maybe someone else can offer a suggestion of a good team???

We did scheduled dining. We had dinner in the Jubilee at 6 and our waiter was Rafael. I don't remember the assistant, there was always 2 or so that changed out I think. But Rafael was very nice, treated everyone with respect and got the 6 yo to dance and play and such. A very nice man.

I may try out ATD on a future cruise but since we did the 6 pm dining (for the older people in the group ;) ) all the shows began after we finished dinner so we could have done anything we wanted but it did mean sun time was cut short and after-port relaxing was tight on time if we got back to the ship at 430. But we always managed to meet up at 5 pm for our sailaways and then still make it to dinner.

  6. We love The Fantasy. We have sailed on her 6 times. Seventh one is booked in October. She will be replaced with The Ecstasy in February. Glad y'all enjoyed your cruise. Yes, the Charleston blue bloods need to give up the fight. I cannot see any of your pics. May be a problem on my end. Here's to future happy sailings!!!

They are all PDF's... It's all I can do for now and they download if clicked on, but hopefully I can covert them to something that will come across visually in the post by next weekend. I would definitely do Fantasy again but I think I'm looking to do a B2B on the Breeze next year and do the Southern/Eastern routes so it may be a while.

  7. That's all I got, I forgot to snipe a bar menu but it was the same as has been posted on here recently as far as 5.95-6.95 for beer, 7.95-8.95 for mixed drinks including DoD, etc

My GF and I did do Cheers as we had a good bit of OBC. I think we'll make out ahead but still need to process the data some, unfortunately, since our drinks were "$0" per the billing summary, I'll have to guestimate some. I think its a nice program, don't know if I'd do it again if on a port intensive trip but the sea days, was more than worth it.

Charleston needs to own up to its roots as a sailing city/city of tourism and proceed with the new terminal. I love my home city, but in some cases, the strong grasp to the past needs to be loosened and this is one of those situations.

  8. Just got back to VA after a week on the Fantasy. Had a great cruise to the Bahamas with a bunch of first-timers, including a 6 yo that had a blast with the waterworks, golf, and Hasbro game show.

I have posted a review, but the quick and dirty:

Ship - clean, well kept, was constantly being worked on by the crew

Room - Interior - not as cold as I would have liked but clean and comfortable

Crew - top notch, just really excellent and always smiled

Food - MDR was wonderful as always and the Buffet had more than enough options daily to stuff, the 24 hr Pizza/Ice cream were a hit with my crowd and the late night room service came through with good sandwiches

Entertainment - the canned shows were ok but Hasbro was a lot of fun, our little man got to participate; the comedians were great - John Wesley Austin was on my first cruise and was present for this one and the man knows how to due cruise humor :) The live music on the Promenade was also pretty good

Cruise - sailing in the Atlantic did notice more rolling of the ship on this cruise but not bad for me, though one of my group members did not tolerate it very well as they recover from a stroke

Bahamas - everyone has their opinions, but I did think the upgrades to the Port area in Freeport were nice from when I was there 7 years ago; the Open Bar beach experience had flavored water in place of EtOH but was otherwise a fun day; the Balmoral Island Dolphin Encounter was great but didnt leave much time on the beach, though that probably worked out since the bar was pricey.

I have finished scanning all of the Fun Times and the Camp Carnival Schedule for 6-8 year olds and will post them here soon as I figure out how. I have some other random stuff I scanned too such as room service menu, the current Fantasy internet options, etc.

If you have any questions, let me know and I'll try to answer, though I do need to get back to reality here shortly unfortunately :(

  9. Can you watch the dolphin encounter from the rest of the beach area even if you are not participating? I asked on the Bahamas page but had no hits. Thanks

  10. The following was a story posted by Charleston's local ABC News affiliate the other day. Looks like Sunshine will be departing from NY, Norfolk, and Charleston at different times next year then returns to PC.

"Carnival announces new cruise ship to depart from Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston's port will be letting the Sunshine in - The Carnival Sunshine will start departing from the Holy City in 2016, but only for a limited time.

According to a release from Carnival Cruises, the Carnival Sunshine will be offering trips to the Bahamas beginning next year.

The Sunshine will sail to Nassau and Freeport. It will also take a 10-day Carnival Journeys cruise stopping at St. Thomas, Antigua, Martinique, St. Kitts and San Juan.

The 10-day cruise will feature seminars focusing on photography, cooking, arts and crafts, social media and celestial navigation, along with a 1980's-themed “Throwback Sea Day."

After a brief tenure in New York, Charleston and Norfolk, the Sunshine will return to its homeport of Port Canaveral, FL in November 2016.

“Carnival Sunshine has an extraordinary array of guest features and facilities and will provide consumers and our valued travel agent partners with a wide range of itinerary choices from these highly attractive East Coast homeports,” said Christine Duffy, Carnival's president.

Some of the amenities on the Sunshine include a 3-deck-high adults-only area with its own pool and waterfall, an aqua park boasting the longest slide in the fleet, and an outdoor recreation area with a suspended ropes course.

For additional information and reservations, contact any travel agent, call 1-800-CARNIVAL or visit carnival.com. Information on Carnival Journeys is available at www.carnival.com/journeys."

  11. Thanks Liz,

We're probably going to come on the day of, we are about 90 minutes from Charleston now but used to live just up the Cooper River so we are excited to take a cruise from "home." My cruises to date have been graduation celebrating with friends so I'm looking forward to a bit more R&R with family this time. The Ardastra Gardens do sound interesting, I'll have to look into it more as animals are a big draw with the little one. We were also looking at just beach days because we are all lake people and give us a little watering hole to swim in and all is well lol.

  12. Hey CC family,

Back on the boards in prep for my next cruise on the Fantasy next May and I have a few questions that I know my CC friends can answer! For me, I am in my second year of residency and want a real vacation finally. I originally planned to go with at least my girlfriend and her son, who are long-time friends and neighbors and we have quickly expanded to include her parents and mine. I'm now taking 6 first time cruisers with me and maybe more pending but it is going to be totally awesome! They are all family to me and I want to make it special for all of them and have a few questions about our cruise.

    1) My parents are both now new retirees and this will be their first time out of the country in any form. I'm thinking about getting a Bon-Voyage Congrats package for them...any other ideas to mark their retirement and also their first international excursion? Any specific activity suggestions? TIA!

    2) My GF son will be 6 and she thinks he'll be fine with either Camp Carnival or simple pool days. He's big into gators and outdoors things and will probably flip over being on a large ship. He's a big fan of Yoo-Hoo, anybody know if this is on-board? I don't remember seeing it but if it isn't, I know he'll be overwhelmed by his other options lol.

    3) Likely to do beach days in Freeport and Nassau; any other family friendly ideas? My last cruise to these locations was a post-graduation cruise and decidedly not family-friendly lol

    4) I have never cruised with a group this size. Had a great time with a large group from my last cruise thanks to the Roll Call, but what have people found the best for keeping in touch on board with a family if everyone splits off to do their own thing? I see from the boards that Freedom is trying out a social media plan, but there is no guarantee it will be expanded to Fantasy by that time so I am not counting on messaging as an option... We have radios, do those work well across ship?

    5) On a side note, with the Fantasy, after the waterworks upgrade, did they get rid of shuffleboard? It was technically challenging to "play the curve" as the Sensation rolled over waves lol and I am sailing with some bon-a-fide corn-hole and horse-shoe players that will be all over it!

Thanks guys, I'm 6ish months out and so excited to take so many first-timers with me and also so much family! I appreciate your help!

    Doc E.
