By the way the mere existence of this thread is a great argument for packing light.  If everyone was to pack light and use one of these

You wouldn’t need to even worry about this.

It is my goal to be able to go light someday but on a 10 day cruise, with varying climates (Honolulu to Vancouver in APRIL) 2 formal nights, various footwear for hiking/everyday/formal, and snorkel gear for 4 - I just can't seem to pare it down.

I would inquire with the cruise line if they would transport your luggage to the airport even if they don’t transport you.  I am sure there would be a cost.

Or maybe they would be willing to let you do the tour/airport transfer, but rather than you continuing all the way to the airport with them, you remain at the one of the stops on the tour with your luggage continuing to the airport.

I have done research on how early you can check luggage before a flight, I can have my bags checked. The most I have found is 4 hours in advance ~ I couldn't find the info for Air Transat.  I was thinking a rental car might be the way to go but I am not sure where we should go or what we would want to see.  I will have to explore the hotel idea in more depth.

Thank you for all of your responses.

I think I'd rent a car if I were you. Gives you the flexibility to go where and when you wish.

The only time we've ever been in this situation was in Hawaii, where I had an agreeable and handy nephew and his wife living there. They dropped everything and devoted the day to driving us around. Best tour ever. Don't suppose you have a nephew in Vancouver?

Sadly no - but what an awesome experience for you!  Those are definitely the best kind of tours.

  5. We will be arriving at Canada Place, Vancouver BC, Canada - after a 10 day cruise in April.  Our flight does not leave until 10:30 PM so we will have about 12 hours to explore Vancouver before we have to get to the airport.  The cruise ship offers a tour and airport transfer but that will get us to the airport by 1.  We don't want to get there that early.  We are a family of 4 with 2 teenagers.  After a 10 day cruise we will have 4 large wheeled bags and probably 4 backpacks.  Does anyone know of a tour company that would allow us to keep our luggage in the van, explore the city, and then get us to the airport around 8 pm?  Any ideas of what others have done when they have had a late flight?  We could always rent a car I suppose. Has anyone had such a lengthy layover?

  7. I have read 2 different descriptions of the "New Kon Tiki Excursion".

On my cruiseline excursion page it indicates that the excursion includes complimentary rum punch and fruit punch. However, on their main web page it just states that people can purchase beverages and snacks.

Is this excursion now more geared to younger kids? I will be travelling with my 21 year old and I don't want him to feel like I took him on a grade school field trip.

I would love to hear about someone's recent experience with this excursion.

  8. I am travelling with just my 21 year old son in January. Our cruise ship is not arriving until 11:30 so we won't be able to get to a beach early. There will be 6 ships in port the day we are the 5th ship to arrive.

In other ports we have taken taxi tours of the island and the tour operator had a cooler of beers for us in the taxi. Being "newly" 21 - I think this is something my son would enjoy. I can't find any tours like this in St. Thomas, the ones I have located are tours that offer water and soda.

I am not a fan of bars so I do not want to go hang out in a beach bar. Is there a place within walking distance of Havensight where I could buy some beers to put in a soft sided cooler for him to enjoy at a beach?

With 6 ships in port that day what beach would everyone suggest?

My son loves to lay out in the sun but I need my shade. With us arriving later and 5th of 6 ships, I am afraid if we schedule a beach day I will not be able to enjoy it because the beaches will be packed and I won't be able to find any shade.

I considered the Kon Tiki party boat but I have read that it is not as good as it used to be. I also was considering a catamaran trip to "TURTLE COVE". Or land tours with Godfrey tours or Sunny Liston. Does anyone have any opinions or suggestions of what would be the most fun for a 21 year old?

  9. Does anyone have the FUN TIMES for the Conquest 8 day itinerary - Princess Cay/Grand Turk/Sea Day / Curacao/Aruba/ Sea Day/Sea Day -

I would love to see all of the days ........but the day I am most interested in is Curacao. I would like to see what the ship activities are for that day. We were considering getting off the boat and walking around after dinner but we don't want to miss certain shows.

  10. We have a day in Aruba in early April. I was considering a Jeep excursion but the company I had settled on told me that they have a contract with Carnival and I have to book through the ship. That wouldn't be an issue except the ship is charging $30 more per person than the tour company. Since we are traveling with kids we usually either book excursions when we get off of the boat - or we book with companies that allow us to pay at the time of the excursion. Has anyone had a positive experience with an excursion that they booked as they got off of the ship in ARUBA?

  11. I am coming in 2 days before my cruise and staying at the springhill suites next to Fulton Garage. I want to park at the garage and walk to my hotel and then back to the garage the morning of the cruise and use their shuttle. I have called and gotten 2 different stories. Has any one else done this before. Thanks for the help

We did this in 2010 and had no problem at all. We are cruising out of NOLA again next month and just spoke to someone at the garage. This person said it would be no problem. Our hotel was Springhill Suites back in 2010 and again next month. It was about a 4 minute walk to our car from the hotel.

  12. Anyone have some recent experiences and advice for me regarding Cozumel and Playa Mia or Paradise beach. For my family I think I have narrowed things down to these 2.

We will just get a taxi from the pier. They both have inflatables and some water toys. I don't care about the food or drinking.

I was thinking Paradise beach may be slightly less busy, but I could be wrong. There will be 6 ships in port that day and we don't arrive until 10am.

I feel like Mr. Sanchos is more about the food and drink. Nachi would be more relaxing but no beach toys for the kids. If we did Playa Mia we would do it without the buffet option. I know at Paradise they ask for $10 in food purchases per person, but even with the food purchase it is a little less expensive than Playa Mia.

Also do you know if we have to pay cash at these places or if the accept credit card when you go directly to the location?

Your experiences and opinions would be greatly appreciated!

  13. Actually, the steward came in and emptied both. She said she would refill it later in the day. We told her not to refill the fridge in 10291 because we wanted to put our water, red bulls and my son's antibiotic in it (he burned his knees before we cruised). She refilled the fridge in 10287 but we asked her to keep it locked as we had the older boys in there....alone.

We are sailing the BREEZE in 2 weeks. Do you remember if your stateroom fridge was empty when you arrived? I remember reading somewhere that Carnival was going to start doing this. We usually have the steward empty it when we arrive or email John Heald. I was just curious if the BREEZE already have them empty.

    Thanks for your help!

  15. Hampton Inn Brickell hits all your needs and includes brkfst. Join the hhonors club as there's a sale going on now too.

We stayed here last August when we sailed out of Miami. It was wonderful. We took a short UBER ride to the port and were all set. It is right on the route of the free Trolley and Metro Mover. We got to tour all over the city. We debated about the Intercontinental to be a little closer to Port but were thrilled with our decision.

    Hope this helps!

  16. We are considering taking the MegaBus into the city on a Saturday before our March cruise. Megabus does not offer any luggage storage. Does anyone have any info on NYC luggage storage options for after the cruise? Our return bus leaves in the evening. I searched CC but didn't see any recent updated info. Since we are returning on March 27th the weather could be almost anything so we don't want to be dragging bags very far.
