Hmmm. I’m not sure if I’m only entertaining myself with this live blog...  anyone out there??? Any questions on the Sun?  Not sure it is a terribly popular ship.

We are following you as we drive to the airport for next week’s cruise. Spending three days in Port Canaveral before we leave net Wed in the Sun. (Brrrrr I heard)
We have our 19 yo daughter and her college roommate with us-  what are the girls finding to do on the ship?

  2. Our hotel is one of those that looks amazing in the lobby and then you get off the elevator and the hallway smells like cat food. Like literally. But we are right on the beach so we will do our best to stay out of the hallway.

First drink of vacation (well, ok, first drink of the trip in Florida). Cheers!

  3. Hi all

Thanks for posting this info. I checked today with my travel agent and NCL. Our passports expire in August and we sail in late March. 2017. We were told we needed to renew our passports by both TA and NCL to be able to get off the ship in Honduras. We just went to the local post office and paid for expedited passport renewals.

Thanks again for posting this as a reminder to us. I for one am happy to have had this posted. I would not have noticed (and I just returned from Nicaragua which is another country where the passport has to be valid within 6 months and I was ok there).

  4. FLIGHT & CAR RENTAL

We flew in to Ft. Lauderdale the day before the cruise. We flew with Air Canada. Everything went smoothly with the flight to Ft. Lauderdale.

We rented a car from Avis at Ft. Lauderdale airport. We chose Avis because of price and there is a location to drop the car off about 10 minutes from the Port of Miami. There is a shuttle that takes you to the port. We did not have to wait at all for the shuttle. It was there when we arrived to drop off the car. We went directly to the port.

We did the same on the last day of the cruise. We took a shuttle to the Avis rental office; it took about 20 minutes for the shuttle to arrive at the port. It is the same shuttle as Budget I believe. Our flight wasn't until 9 pm and we wanted to visit some friends. We dropped the car off at the airport. Our flight back did not leave until after midnight because unfortunately we were arriving on the first snowstorm of the year. Long day! :(

    HOTEL

Pre-cruise hotel was the Best Western Oceanside Inn in Ft. Lauderdale. I highly recommend this hotel. It was basic but very clean. They have a full complimentary breakfast in the morning. It is only a few blocks from the beach and there were a lot of places to eat and shop within walking distance. I will post pictures of the hotel at the end of my review.

Thanks so much for the great review!

Was parking difficult or costly at the hotel?

  5. Thanks for the positive feedback.

I forgot to mention that despite the numerous reports of narrow hallways and tiny balconies, these issues did not really detract from my cruise. However, we did really miss the ability to combine our balconies into one mega-balcony. It was a convenient way to stay in touch, communicate, and hang out on our Celebrity cruise.

Thanks so much for the great review.

We have adjoining balcony's on our March Getaway sailing and we were hoping we could open the connecting balcony door as we have in the past. Are there no connecting balcony doors on the Getaway or is it that the staff just won't let you keep them open?(I've seen this done on other ships).

    Thanks again

  6. Hi

Has anyone gone to Maya Chan and had the Taco Palapa reserved? It's by the tree house. Wondering if there is sun in this location and if it's still a good spot even though it is not located directly on the beach.

We just booked and this is all that is available.

    Thanks.

  7. I am going through this same issue right now. I had a mini suite booked 10 months out for 2x points (which brought us to Platinum). At 7 months I changed from mini suite to a balcony and an inside due to adding another child. (In addition, we talked a friend into coming and she booked the adjoining balcony) I've called NCL latitude line and emailed them with all details 7 times with no response. Can I ask what number you called?? We leave Feb 8th and I'd like to get resolved. I'm frustrated as we plan on a European cruise next year and were looking forward to Platinum for our 20th anniversary cruise....

    Thanks!

  8. Hi-

Our family of 4 will be cruising with our foreign exchange student in 2015. Can anyone give me advice on what I can do to make this go smoothly for us. I know there is one form on the NCL site that will need to be completed and signed by the birth parents (they are from Spain) but is there anything else I will need to have with me when we board or enter other countries (traveling to Cozumel, Jamaica and Grand Cayman). She has a passport and a J-1 Visa.

Thank you in advance for your help!
