Last cruise we could not access the folio on the TV just the app or kiosk

I sure am confused.  Thanks for your replies.  What I really want to know is, do they still have a morning breakfast option with room service?  This used to be a card you would hang on your door at night and were offered a limited menu to be delivered at a specific time.  There was no charge for this.  Is this still available and complimentary?

  2. Thanks to everyone for the responses. We decided on the Coral because it was leaving the week we needed. I appreciate the advice about the bump out. We booked the first aft bump out on the starboard side.. I think this will be a great spot for us.

Great choice! Have sailed on both ships twice...the Coral has an edge for me! Had bumpout D502 Alaska, C502 Panama Canal. Love the ambience of that ship. Good sailing!

  3. I just don't understand why people get themselves all upset over such trivial things. You are on vacation!! Relax!! Consider yourself lucky to be fortunate to afford a cruise. I guess I'm just one of those who smile and always look on the bright side of things. Make a new friend while waiting on line. Have another drink while waiting. There are other choices. Next time do traditional and you will have no wait. At home if I want to go to a popular restaurant sometimes I have to wait or I make a choice to go somewhere else.

Chill out, be happy, relax. It's better for your health. And again count your blessings. Lots of people would love to be able to afford a cruise and change places with you on that line!!

    Amen...thank you!

  4. I am not sure that filling out tables in TD will work. The TD people will have been sitting for 15 minutes or so already. Then they will have to wait while people in the AD line are selected, sent to the other dining room, brought to a table, given menus and time to make choices. Finally they can order. I think the TD people will be put out by then.

It would work much better to fill an empty TD table.

Good reasoning...let's suggest it to the powers that be????? Maybe they'll read this thread!

  5. NCL has the advantage of onboard tech (as does RCCL) that Princess has chosen not to implement, plus with no traditional dining there is no need to attempt to balance the two groups, which lets them use space more effectively....

I wonder if this possibility has been explored. In TD, if the assigned parties have not arrived within 15 min of their seating, the Maitre D' could call the Maitre D' in ATD to suggest he/she send any diner waiting for a table, the option to go to the TD and join a table with empty seats? That way, the other tablemates in TD won't have to wait longer to be served. Just asking!

  6. Meclazine (chewable) for my DH who tends to have motion sickness. He can't use the patch due to other medication reactions. I also bring along a few cans of gingerale. That is an old family tested recipe! He takes the first dose about an hour before sailing and does very well with one every 24 hrs for the first couple of days, and then only on rough seas. No drowsiness!

  7. Just returned from our first cruise -Coral Princess northbound from Vancouver. We figured it would be the only way to see Alaska and a one and done for the 49th state.

I've been following comments for months about cruising so will add a few of my own

Ship was immaculate in every area Our mini suite was overseen by a wonderful steward. The fitness center was better than my gym. We had ATD and never had to wait even by showing up seven-ish. Formal nights saw few in tuxedos and long dresses. Maybe because it was Alaska in September, as one of our dinner companions said. Suited me fine as my usual attire is jeans or workout attire. I did try though and so did my husband who wore a sport jacket and said he felt over dressed.

I'm not much of a foodie and usually just happy someone will feed me. The MDR was great and I got to try pheasant and escargot. The buffet had a great salad bar and a lot of selections for lunch. Breakfast was usually also there (hubby not big on pastries at the IC so I only went for elevenish cappuccino and croissant by myself). Sabbatinis was awesome one night - steak and veal and when it morphed into Alfredo's for pizza lunch I was in heaven.

We had the everything beverage cards which were thoroughly used from coffees to sodas to wine. I love coffee anytime and I don't object to the much maligned buffet coffee. The wait staff were very efficient and every staff member seemed to be enjoying themselves as well.

The only downer in our entire cruise came from a fellow passenger who shopped in Skagway and came back to ship to drop his purchases before heading out. I was at the security scanner when he jammed in front of me and pushed his stuff through yelling "I'm going before you because I've got to catch a train". Then he forgot to take his cell phone out of his pocket and jammed back, stepping on my foot and startled me. I said "no" and then he started shouting at me "you don't tell ME no!!" OMG what a jerk.

We took three excursions through Princess - one of them turned out to be an adventure as the rickety old bus broke down on Haine's evening wildlife hike. A few anxious moments but we made it back to the ferry and then back to the ship on time. Didn't really see a lot of wildlife - just a couple of bears and a few Eagles. Whale watch much the same - a couple sightings. It's late in the season.

I really DIDN'T enjoy sea days. That's when the beverage cards got put into play a lot. In fact, if we hadn't signed up for the British Isles cruise next May (another case where there are two ports we'd probably never get to see on our own) I think that sea days would off put us so much that, in spite of our Alaska cruise being so great otherwise, cruising could have indeed been one and done.

But all was mostly great. [emoji7]

Try a Baltic cruise! You will be praying for a sea day just to process all the wondrous sights . Very port intensive!

  8. On my first cruise I think everyday but one I ended up at the gym instead of the buffet in the mornings. I never went in, just turned around and went to breakfast.

I think you were supposed to do that in reverse????

  9. Nice. :p

The QM folks specified only ships docked at the Long Beach pier (which most of the time are Carnival ships) so I was simply speculating that since the Star WILL be docked there this October, the free admission may apply.

On the Star last year, docked at Long Beach. Very short walk through the cruise terminal and through the parking lot of the QM. On reaching the admission booth, they just said to show our cruise card. No fuss whatever. Thought it was very worthwhile, even though I had visited it many years ago. My DH had not seen it, and he really enjoyed it

  10. Yes...the Subway shop in Denali had Alaskan smoked salmon sub, same cost as most of the others. And delicious. We took ours on the Tundra Wilderness tour! We were very pleased with the land tour (2009) and our first cruise ever Whittier to Vancouver. Felt every cent spent was value. Hooked us into taking 8 more cruises, with upcoming in Oct to Hawaii for the 9th. Treat yourselves if possible.

  11. We are planning a Coral Princess Cruise, sailing on April 10,2018. This is our first time on this ship & first time to the Panama Canal. We NEED HELP with our Cabin selection. I understand this trip is very popular & will fill fast, so ANY & ALL input will be Greatly Appreciated !!! Thanks in advance.

Been on the Coral 3 times and LOVE that ship Twice to Alaska (D502, C501) and once to Panama Canal (C502). The midship bumpout is fabulous, affording more privacy and partially covered which is my choice! Take a look on Tom's website. Happy sailing, a long time to wait!

  12. Grab a cup of coffee, while it is still dark and approaching the Canal. Get a place at the rail on the Dolphin deck and watch the sun rise, the Bridge of the Americas (if you are coming from LA) and the entrance to the Canal...it is supreme!

  13. My companion and I were happy campers with this tour...both of us in our mid 70s. Very complete and exhausting, but thoroughly worth it! It shouldn't be missed if possible...one can sleep in the next day! Sorry you couldn't manage the entire 2 days. This was one of the very best Princess excursions I have ever been on and would do it again.
