  1. To the OP,

...Make sure you are not it a connecting cabin, like hotel rooms you can often hear what is going on next door....

Well, sometimes it might be interesting what's going on next door..

    (Just kidding!!!)

If you want to check whats below or above you, you can always check sites such as cruisedeckplans.com... just locate your cabin on the deck you're booked in and skip up and down on the decks... At least you'll know which common area is above/below you, as most of those plans are not as detailed to show you every nook and cranny and service area. But at least it's something...

Here's the link (for the Fortuna)

    http://www.cruisedeckplans.com/DP/Costa/fortuna.php

But there are many other ships listed as well.

    Hope that helps.

  2. In my personal opinion: I would select either stateroom 8249 or 8270, as those cabins are fairly centrally located mid-ship and not far from the main elevators, which will enable you to easy access to other decks, such as main lobby, bars, casino, buffet restaurant, pools, etc. These cabins have no public areas above or below, so noise should be minimal, with the exception of normal and customary "walk-by-traffic".

8211 and 8212 would be my second choice, as those are located pretty far forward. They will be nice and quite as they is hardly any walk-by-traffic. But being further forward, you will feel the motion of the ship more than in a mid-ship location.

I would not choose cabins 8406, 8414 or 8419 as those are located directly underneath the pool, pool bar and poolside buffet, especially if the noise factor is of importance to you, as you mentioned. You may encounter quite a bit of noise from chairs and loungers being moved around, as that will take place right "on your head".

Just my 2 cents and my personal opinon... I hope there will be other cruisers giving their input as well...

    Hope that helps...

If I would have a choice I would definately go with the balcony cabin on the Vigo Deck (Deck 8). Although you may want to consider a couple of important facts when booking your cabin. Some cabins on Deck 8 are situated directly underneath the public areas, especially towards from mid-ship towards the aft (you got the pools and the buffet restaurants right above you). So although the cabin and hallway may be quiet, cabins in those locations may be noisy do to the fact that people moving lounge chairs or restaurant chairs right above you. Try to avoid cabins # 8288 and HIGHER, as those are located under these public areas. Deck 8 towards the stern is more likely a safe location. Do you have a specific cabin number?

If you have alternatives for rooms, see if you can get on Deck 6 or 7. Those decks do NOT have any public areas above or below and are therefore very quiet. If you are prone to motion sickness, you may want to try to stay mid-ship, as you can feel more motion towards the stern and the aft of the ship.

Let us know if you have specific cabin #'s...

  4. My opinion is (and that's what several friends and relatives shared with me as well), that you are better off to take a taxi from the airport to the port... FLL is just minutes from the port and not a long ride away... maybe 10 minutes max.

If you book the pick-up service / shuttle through Costa, I understand that they will pick you up at your arrival gate / baggage claim area with a Costa sign in their hand (like Club Med vacation). You will then be escorted to a bus, which will shuttle you over to the port.

If you choose Costa's shuttle, they will follow up with the airline, if you should be delayed for any reason. If you go out by yourself and you are delayed, you have to hurry up yourself and shuttle yourself over to the ship.

  5. Irene:

The parking garage for the pier is usually very close to the boarding area. So you don't need a shuttle.

Where are you coming from? Florida?

We are from FL and always rented a vehicle with any of the larger car rental companies, drove to the port, unloaded, dropped off the rental car and they shuttled us over to the port again and vis-versa on the way back.

Uncomplicated, and no worries that somebody may damage or break into your car...

    Just my two cents...

  6. And don't forget about Costa...

I know a lot of people saying that the food aboard the Costa ships are below standard, but mostly those posts are coming from people who have never had REAL italian food and never been to Italy. What they expect is the Ameritalian cuisin, which is modified to fit the taste of Fast Food America.

We went on the Costa Atlantica for a Western Carribean cruise and I was not disappointed once. It did not matter what meal - breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner or midnight buffet - it sure was always excellent!

Now again, some people in our group have never tasted real italian food, and soforth they were kind of surprised or unhappy about the food.

Having visited Italy numerous times myself, I can reassure you that Costa is doing an excellent job with their theme "Cruising Italian Style".

If you love italian food, book it - if you don't, try another line!
