  1. We were on the Reflection during Super Bowl a few years back.  We ate in the main dining room that night and went to the theatre after to watch the game.  They were serving chicken wings and although we were too full to try them, everyone around us said they were excellent.  We will be on the Reflection for Super Bowl again and intend to try some this time.

  2. With NCL the ‘up charge’ is a gratuities fee that is charged if you choose a beverage package or specialty dining package.  It is included in your total price.  I have sailed NCL before and after they implemented the gratuities fee.  So if you choose beverage or dining package you get charge that extra amount. If you choose shore excursions or wifi packages the gratuities are not added.  To me they are no longer free perks.  Celebrity does not add extra gratuities to their beverage packages.

I also agree with previous posts, NCL has more choices and superior evening entertainment.  Celebrity food is much better than NCL, especially in the dining room and specialty restaurant.

  3. Having cruised on Carnival many times I liked their buffet and lunch options. They're deli is the best and the Indian food station was delicious. We were on the Escape last year and noted that they didn't have the variety of Carnival. Where NCL exceeds is their specialty restaurants & night time entertainment. Went on Celebrity Reflection last month and although the dining room food is superior, their lunch buffet was always just OK. Except for the silent disco, which was a blast, Celebrity evening entertainment was mediocre.

  4. We just got off the cruise today. Our 19 & 21 year olds said that Spice H20 closed around 1am on the nights that the 80's or white night happened. They found most people their age hung out at headliners especially on the nights of duelling pianos, spent some time at the Skyline & usually ended up at O Sheehans for late night food. They had a great time & met lots of people their own age.

  5. Having stayed at both, they are both nice. Hollywood Marriott is beautiful once inside, front of hotel is misleading. Beautiful pool and you are right on the boardwalk and beach. Rooms have a balcony, are beautifully furnished but small. They have a great concierge lounge too. We are staying at the Fort lauderdale courtyard this time because they offer 2 queen beds instead of doubles at the Marriott. The beach area is nicer here for us. There is a Bubba Gump attached to the hotel if you don't want to travel far from the hotel.

  6. We are also going to be there pre cruise on New Years Eve. Blue Heron any pointers on New Years eve in Fort Lauderdale. We are with our 2 teenagers. Also any info about shuttles to POM from this hotel. It isn't one of the hotels on the list with SAS, so I'm not sure if we should cab it back to the FLL or get private transport.

  7. We stayed at the JW Marquis pre cruise and it was wonderful. Its a very large hotel with beautiful views. Not really close to anything worth walking to for dining. We cabbed it to Brickell Village and also to Little Havana for meals. Also ate in the hotel for lunch and their sports bar, which isn't really like a typical sport bar. The food was very good. The pool is on one of the higher floors but doesn't get much sun because of all the high rises there, but it was large and very nice. I would stay there again in a heartbeat. If you're a Gold or Platinum Marriott member and have access to the lounge, their breakfasts were plentiful. Didn't go to their happy hour so I can't comment.

  8. Most people do one way car rentals. We always stay the Marriott Residence Inn. Good hot breakfast included. Not on the beach but we always have a rental car that we take to the beach. The hotel is probably the closest one to the port. The car rentals all have free shuttles but they are also extremely busy because they shuttle people just off the cruise & those going to the terminal. Give yourself plenty of time. Great restaurants right at the port, we like eating at Fishlips right at the pier. You get to wave to the ships leaving the ports in the afternoon.
