  1. I would fight them on this because it's not like they canceled and Carnival had to turn around and give the money back to them or the insurance company - The money carnival got regardless if they charged it as a penalty for canceling still remains in there pocket - there is a good possibility they could just go on the cruise and use the room as single since they still have their money

Sounds logical, but that's not how it works.

  2. None of this makes any sense to me.

If the cruise is fully paid for,

and two folks don't show up,

AND they have "any reason" insurance

why would the third occupant be on the hook for more money?

Carnival already received all the money for the cruise.

The money was paid, yes, but it's lost as a penalty for cancelling. That means the OP must fork out a fare for the 2nd bed. Rates are based on double occupancy. The original fare doesn't automatically shift to cover the 2nd bed.

  3. When I cancelled, my friend still got the cabin to himself and my insurance paid me. The cruise line still had my money.

When one cancels, doesn't that erase you off the booking? Why would the remaining cruiser not have to pay the second fare? Sounds like a scam to give a solo cruiser a cabin without paying a solo supplement and you got your money back. Wondering if there was a built in clause in your insurance to cover this.

  4. Unfortunately they no longer offer them. I got one about 2 years ago and have to comment that over the 7 days I met 6 couples who told me they took advantage of it and booked 2 rooms so they could have an extra bathroom. Not sure if that happened a lot but I felt like it would hurt long run. And that was the last one I saw with no supplement.

This is part of the problem. That being said, those deals are extinct, and not just Carnival. Even the solo cabins on NCL are ridiculously jacked.

  5. Thank you all for the info about your experiences! Very helpful!! I think I will get that flight at 12:30pm.

Plus, if for any reason you don't make it, 12:30 is within the time frame insurance can click in. Insurance doesn't pay if someone misses a flight with an earlier time.

  6. I seem to remember that there used to be a date that the full deposit was due when booking during a reduced deposit sale, but all I am seeing on my account is the final payment date. Has something changed?

You remembered wrong, there never was a date to finish a deposit. The rest of the deposit changes if you make any changes to the reservation. What you booked was the price during the sale, but the new price wouldn't be what was on the previous sale, so essentially it's a new booking.

  7. DH and I are gastric bypass patients and have stopped eating at the steak house because we cannot even half of the portions they serve.

I wish you best of luck in trying to convince Carnival of your health issues.

On our last cruise we were treated extremely poorly by the maitre'd in the dining room because of our diet issues. Carnival did not care at all.

Really? How can they treat you poorly because you couldn't eat a complete meal?

  8. Please tell me that I didn't make a mistake in booking on this ship? I just finished reading at least 7 pages on this site of nothing but negative reviews. The timing and itinerary are what I was looking for most which is why I choose the Splendor but it seems that everyone that has gone, has nothing but bad

Things to say about every aspect of the cruise. Did anyone enjoy it?

7 pages ??? Actually that's not much considering the thousands who cruise. How could "everything" be bad ??

  9. You all are right totally right.

To me, as a simple person, are totally wrong to assume that this is a simple question to ask about a name change, I should have known that this will be a super complicated "cancellation" & not just a simple change name from John Doe to Jane Doe.

Finally got an answer from my TA, who had to call Carnival & took another 10 minutes; but it's not just $50 as stated in Carnival's online link, but $173. Wonder where or how they got that figure...?

& why can't whichever that Carnival dept who can answer my TA, can't give me the same answer yesterday...?

I'd wonder why $173, odd number. Did he say why that amount?
