Once you leave the port area (and we run through quickly as it is a tourist trap), there are taxis for rent, and you can rent all kinds of interesting vehicles.

There are several popular all inclusive resorts that are reasonable in price, serve good food, have beaches and are worth looking into. Many provide transportation that is included in their all day fee.

It depends on many factors, but this coastline has an issue with sometimes dense sea weed aka sargassum. That clouds the water. But, there are times when you have clear, lovely water. No, it is not the Caribbean but still has great features. We have been there likely 15 times since the area was developed by the Mexican government. Do not let negative posts influence you. Research the area and look for opportunities to see the area. I hope you enjoy your visit and wish we were going too!

WE will be going to costa maya for first time in feb. we want a beach (all inclusive would be nice but not necessary.) but our main concern is to not have vendors bothering us every 5 minutes and to have a bathroom and feel safe.

  2. The cabana is a bed to relax in but there are plenty of chairs and tables with umbrellas right in front of them to go to when eating. We always just get two lounge chairs in front of the water with an umbrella and it is fun. We find we spend a lot of time in the pool with swim up bar too. I am not sure I would be in the cabana long enough to warrant the price. Instead just spend some of that money on getting a massage under the palm trees next to the cabanas. And by the way....they will negotiate on the massage. :-)

  3. We have been to Mr Sanchos several times and enjoyed the many drinks and food items that are available as all inclusive.

Has anyone been to both Mr Sanchos and Nachi Cocom that can give an apples to apples comparison and which they liked better?

  4. Can't find the app on my ipad. Has anyone gotten the app on iPad yet? Leaving for the dream tomorrow and I understand they now have the hub app.

If not, can I just load an I ternatiinal data plan on my iPad and use it from the ship?

  5. I know that there have been numerous posts about wifi and phone usage but there appears to be new plans for both ATT and for carnival....though carnival appears to be the only cruise ship that ATT does not have a phone plan directly with.

I will be on the Dream a Journey Cruise next week, which someone posted that Dream just started the new social media plan just two days ago. As a real estate agent, a deal could come through at any time. I just need to have a little access to text and emails, just to check in once a day. No need to actually use phone since I have that forwarded to a colleague. I do have my iPad with me too.

Does anyone have a clear understanding of both ATT and Carnivals new plans to help me figure this out?

And yes.....I would love to unplug...and I do have someone to handle the actual business while I am gone, and I will forward my calls, however, people send me requests from various resources: text, facebook, Twitter, linked in, email.....and being offline for 10 days can cause issues.

    Please don't flame....just help!! 😜

  6. Been to Progresso three times. First time we did dzibulchaltun ruins and Merida tour. The ruins were great, swam in the Cenote at the ruins and then as we were driving to Merida my husband said "all that is missing is the beer" so the guide smiled and said he would take care of that and ran into a small store, came out with a case and sold to everyone for a buck a beer. Well worth it! In Merida instead of shopping with the group we ran into a restaurant and had a wonderful meal and then got back on the bus and headed for the boat.

Second trip, with just the ladies, we shopped for a few minutes and then caught a bus to an all inclusive resort to hang out by the beach with great margaritas and good food.

Third trip, took my two grown sons, 24 and 22 at the time, we called Lawson's and scheduled a private tour of the Cenotes and of a small authentic town. My kids thought this was a blast. The cenotes they took us to were without a doubt a lifetime experience. The town was quaint. Poor but quaint. Our guide bought several fruits and an avocado and we sampled different things we have never had. He supplied us with beer (seeing a pattern here) and on the way back we spotted a couple cooking chicken halves on an open grill and we bought two whole chickens. They chopped them up, put them on a platter and we are that whole chicken on the way back. My younger son was talking to locals about living there. He really wanted to move there for a year and do cenote tours!

Have an open mind, explore something different and talk with the locals! We go again next week and we can't wait.

  7. We usually do assigned MDR at set time because our last anytime dining gave us a bad wait team, longer food runs (waited an hour for food) and we didn't like sitting alone...we are minglers. This time my son and his girlfriend are going, we want anytime...but wonder if anyone can shed some light on a dining team they had on Elation that they liked under this category recently?

Also piano bars differ greatly with the players. We were on Elation several times and one year there is a great piano player, very interactive and then the next he was a dud. So how is the piano player at this time?

  8. The biggest tip we learned is to bring your own Tervis tumbler with lid. Great to pour your cold beverages in, especially frozen ones by the pool so they don't melt so fast.

I take flavored creamer with me too for my coffee.

My husband orders three scoops of ice cream at the MDR and a glass of milk....he then puts it in his tervis and makes a shake that is not soft serve inspired....lol

We used to just go serenity but now we really like to people watch by the pool.....FUNNY! (And stupid....amazed at stupidity)

We like the piano bar if people get involved and the piano player is on a roll.

We take champagne instead of wine and have mimosas by ordering oj for room service....great beverage on your balcony.

We always order Vodka from Bon Voyage...prices increased a few years ago and I believe that caused more smugglers....they should lower again because it is so easy. We take tonic and cranberry as our add ins and order grapefruit from room service and that rakes care of our beverages all week....except I have to have one Long Island tea everyday....love them.

  9. We sail in 31 days and just got our cabin assignment. We booked Oct 1st for a Dec 13th cruise. We are sailing with friends and we both booked inside guarantee. They are in cabin E57 and we are in E201. Love the Emperess deck and the location is very convenient to getting to the Lido deck, right by stairs/elevators.

Hey! We have rm E201 for an upcoming cruise. How did that room work for you?

BTW: I was inside guarantee on Elation

Received E201 30 days before sailing

  10. I think we have been on the Elation 13 times. It is our favorite ship..We have a B2B on Jan. 19 and 24th. Be sure to see "Just Rock" in the theater. It is our favorite show that we have seen on Carnival.

    Have fun!!!

    Wow 13 times?!

We will be on Elation on the 19th as well but it is ONLY our 5th time on it. Lol
