Jeans and a shirt with collar is welcome during any casual nights in the MDR.   I have been wearing jeans and a shirt with collar such as polo shirt for years on non-formal nights.

Great!  Thank you for the response.  That's what I was hoping for.  Previous cruises through other lines is usually fine!

  2. My best friend and I sailed out of the Manhattan terminal in February on the Gem. Drove from Michigan. Stayed at a hotel right by Times Square. We went a couple of days early because niether of us had ever been to New York. We had an amazing time. The morning of the cruise we took our car to the port, used a service that kept our car for the week, got on the ship and we were on our way from there. Had a blast. Would do it again in a heartbeat! Also, the weekend we were in NYC, the weather was in the high 40's, low 50's!! Best tourinng weather!

  3. The size of the Gem is perfect! Easy to navigate through.

The staff was amazing! Especially the manager at Cagney's! (I feel horrible because I can't rememeber her name :( )

Cagney's had excellent food. Ate there twice.

I would go on her again in a heartbeat!

  4. Sorry for your experience tinadago, I'm sure that was very scary. And yes, the undertow can be wicked when there is a sea swell and in the winter months just as anywhere else. We've seen very experienced swimmers have a tough time swimming to shore from their cats during a heavy sea swell. But generally very safe along the shore and boulders as long as you use common sense and aren't too adventurous. I'd hate to see someone miss seeing the Baths because they were scared off after reading of these isolated incidents too. But yes, be careful when among rocks and waves for sure!

    Definitely don't miss the Baths.

  5. I also had a bad experience there. Same thing, it's so beautiful you forget to watch yourself. I was in Devils bay, enjoying the warm beautiful beach...waves weren't bad. Huge wave went over my head. While trying to recover and get myself back to the beach, another hit, slamming me into one of the boulders. I couldn't recover myself. With the help of a young girl who witnessed, who also called out to her father, who also helped, they were able to get me back to the beach safely. Thank God for them. I could have easily been swept out. The under tow was very strong.

  6. $.79/minute. You are calling through the app, so warn whomever you will be calling that the call will not come from your phone number. You aren't using your actual phone program to call, but it's a web thing through the app.

I didn't try to text home. I've used iConcierge on 3 cruises, but haven't seen that option. (I haven't looked for it though.)

    That's pretty cheap.

Thank you for the response :)

  7. Hi. My friend and I are sailing on the Gem next Monday. We really want to carry our luggage on. When I was on the Sky last year, there was a bar that we could drop our luggage off to while we roamed the ship and waited for our cabin to be ready. Anyone ever heard this? And does the Gem have this available?

    Thank you :)
