  1. I am on the same cruise as you and we are in 11000 and have friends in 11004. As far as I can tell yes the balconies are hulled-in, in the forward cabins, but until someone is actually on the ship who knows...... My guess is that you will have to hold you little one up to see the water. I don't know if I would change our room if we were bring our 2 yo DD. In my mind I think I like metal better than glass. Metal doesn't break easy, IMO.

  2. Okay, so I booked a balcony for Sept. 11, 2010 for my wife and my 2yo son. The room number is 10012. Having not been on the ship and not having payed attention to pictures beforehand I assumed that the balcony would have a "glass" railing (i.e. my 2yo son could walk up to the railing and see the ocean. However looking more closely at the pictures and build pictures it would seem that my room and the rooms around it are going to have just a hole as balcony and no glass. This would mean that I would at minimum have to hold my son up to see the water. Does anyone have any info regarding these forward balconies? My TA called NCL, and they said that this wasn't the case but in one of the photos I have seen I can see a worker leaning on the metal underneath the opening for the hole for the balcony. How can NCL charge the same price for these balconies as more open balconies that are more aft on the ship? Thanks in advance for anyone's help. I may need to call my travel agent back to change my room.

  3. This was my first cruise, and I will definitely cruise again. The Carnival Legend is a beautiful ship. I was a little concerned about the past posts saying the décor it was over the top. The only thing I found I didn’t like was the paintings on the landings of the stairwells. I felt they should have been more Art Deco like the rest of the ship; they were too modern and loud.

Embarkation was quick and easy. I would definitely suggest getting to the port before 11 am very short lines and you are on the ship with in 45 minutes. J

Our room was really nice. We booked an inside stateroom but got upgraded to an obstructed balcony, in the future I will only book a balcony room. I was afraid the room was going to be cramped, but it wasn’t bad at all. We (my best friend and I) had two large suitcases a piece and still had room in the closest to hang more clothing. Our room was on the fourth floor mid ship behind a life boat. We still got a great sea breeze every night when it was cool enough to sleep with the balcony door open. Beware the crew works on the boat all the time, our first morning we were woken up by a bunch of crew members working on the lifeboats in front of our balcony. Hint: keep the curtains closed so you don’t give them a free show. Our room steward was awesome, any weird request he seem to handle with ease.

Food: As my husband would say I am a bit of a food snob, I found the food in the Truffles Dining Room to be okay. Our first night I order a strip medium rare and received one well done, my head waiter should have picked this up but he didn’t, that was only night he was our waiter also. The rest of the time our head waiter Jose and assistant waiter Hernon were excellent. After the first night of them being our waiter they know that I like to ice tea with a lot of lemon right that it was always waiting for me at the table btw we had a table of twelve no small feat there. I found the chocolate melting cake too sweet for my tastes and I am a chocolate freak. I had a really good chicken dish I think it was charred chicken? Since I can’t eat shellfish because a severe allergy and prefer not to eat fish, I can’t comment on any of the fish dishes, but my table mates seemed to like them. All in all, not much stood out as to "die for" in the dining room. As for the Golden Fleece Supper Club don’t miss the chance!! The food was superb! I think the Porterhouse steak I had, was on a higher level than a Ruth Chris, Morton’s or a NY Prime. The desserts (Chocolate Pate and the Citrus Cheesecake) were a delight, by far the best desserts on board. The service was very good. If I could do it again I would eat twice at the supper club. The coffee bar that you pay for was not as good as a Starbuck’s or Pete’s but was much better than the coffee/ espresso served in the dining room for free.

On board on sea days… supposedly the ship was sold out, however you would never know. I never had a hard time finding a chair right in front of the pool, yes there were “chair hogs” but it really wasn’t a problem. The pool area was clean and very nice. I think it was because school was still in session, and there weren’t a lot of children on board. And the children on board were mostly well behaved, and if they started rough housing in the pool area the security guards quickly put them in their place. The “Vegas” type shows were a bit corny for me. I won’t even start on the dancers….. being in step is what dancing is all about. And the male dancers made me giggle, some of the outfits, wow! The comedy show that I saw was very funny, definitely R rated not because the comic, but because a guest telling two very tasteless jokes, can’t fault the comic for that though. The casino was smoky and a little crowded, but I was happy….. I won $94.50 on the penny slots.

    Ports:

Grand Cayman was beautiful, post card perfect. We took a tour of the island for $20pp it stopped at the Turtle Farm, Rum Factory, Hell, and a couple of other places. Our driver Pansy was really informative about the island and how they are still rebuilding from the last hurricane. We did some shopping but found the prices a bit higher than we could find in the states. I wish we had done some snorkeling, after hearing how beautiful the water was. Maybe next time…

Cozumel was a bit dirty; the sales people were pushy, either in your face or following you around like you were going to steal something. Hint: because all the vendors have the exact same thing, you can really get some good deals. You just had to be willing to do some haggling for the price you are willing to pay.

Belize was my favorite port of all. I have to say Belize has some of the most beautiful unspoiled beaches I have ever seen in my life. My parents have been there 3 times in the last four or more years and my dad gave a really good description of the area. He said it is like what the Florida Keys must have been back in the forties when Hemingway first started going down there. Small cottages, quaint restaurants and just the nicest people. We did an independent tour with Coral Breeze/ Hammerhead. Henni, Mark, and Jamal (?) were our guides for the Sting Ray and Shark snorkel tour booked on line for $77 per person with no lunch. Our guides were a very personable and knowledgeable, gave us a lot of interesting facts and information on their country and Cayes (keys). The boat ride to the first drop was breath taking. The colors of the sea ranged from sea glass green to turquoise to indigo an every shade in between. The first dive was in water very clear. We got to see finger, and fan coral in all colors. So many fish, I even got up, close and personal with a barracuda, 5 plus ft Nurse Shark and lots of Sting Rays. Mark even pulled a few of Lobsters up from the floor so cool! After snorkeling for a couple of hours, we went to Caye Caulker for lunch at this great little oceanside “pub”, the food was so good and fresh. This place was not to be missed. We had enough time to rent a golf cart and took a self tour of Caye Caulker. You can tell the people on the island don’t have much but what they have they take pride in. Being two women alone, I felt very safe; I didn’t feel that in any other port except maybe Grand Caymans a little. I actually let my “New Yorker” background guard down and really relaxed. I loved Belize in fact I spoke with my husband about maybe buying some property down there on one of the Cayes.

Costa Maya was an interesting port. The port area it self was kind of gross. A ton of people in a dirty little swim up bar pool needless to say sun, water and alcohol don’t always mix well. The other BIG thing was all the armed police or army men; they were every where with machine guns!!! On roof tops and driving around the fishing village, it didn’t make me feel safe at all. There is not a lot to do right there and the people who “sell” tours try to mislead the tourists into thinking that you can’t do anything outside the port with out them. They charge about 5 times as much for the same thing we did for $5 in cab fare. After reading all the posts about Cat’s Meow and nice it was we decided to do that. If you get off the boat in Costa Maya please do this. It was so relaxing and a great way to spend the last day in a port. I just sat under a tent had a coke or two and some chips and salsa. I snorkeled out really far from the beach and was only up to my waist in water. The water isn’t as pretty as Belize but it was still very nice. The $20 massages were very nice.

Disembarkation was quick and easy also. We found our bags no problem and had the Hertz people hold them for a couple of hours so we could walk around and shop.

Sorry this was so long but I wanted to gave as much detail as possible. If you have any questions please post them on the Legend 05/06/07 board to Melissa.
