Confirmed. No smoking in that lounge any longer. We used to play cards and have cigars in there until the wee hours of the morning... not so anymore. This lounge (as well as similarly located lounges on the other Conquest Class ships) were made non-smoking when the public internet cafe was placed just off this room, port side. In order to get to it one would need to walk thru the areas where someone could potentially be smoking... no other public entrance. If you go thru there you will notice the air cleaners, while idled, remain installed to this day.

Just use the airport options. Shuttles for downtown Avis is non existent (unsure of Hertz), and if you are not familiar with the area the various one way streets can get you turned around pretty quick. Slower return process at both locations compared to the airport. Fuel options are more readily available to fill up your rental before returning near the airport than downtown.

 

When we first started cruising out of POM (1999) we used to drop the cars at airport locations... it was a drag because all the rental locations were offsite at the airport. We then migrated to the downtown locations... better, but still not great. Once the Transportation Center opened at MIA and they worked the kinks out it was SO much more efficient - only place we go now.

How often do the Alamo shuttles come by the POM to take you to MIA ?

IMO, not frequently enough, and when they do arrive you oftentimes will find them full (unless your ship was the first one they stop at after coming back from the airport). I go in with a backup plan... I give them 10 minutes to arrive, and if they are either full or fail to show up in that amount of time I'll spend the $27ish for a cab ride to the airport and pickup the car. I guess over time I've been left standing on the curb waiting for the free ride too much to get worked up over it any longer.

Last year we boarded the Breeze during Ultra. Stayed up in Boca Raton the night before and drove in the morning of the cruise. The good news is that in the morning of boarding the traffic won't be awful in DT Miami as the party people will still be sleeping off the night before's fun. Just be sure to use the tunnel to get to the pier, avoiding all the roads that will be closed downtown.

I posted this once in the thread and I think it got lost - I see people saying over and over again that they booked online or through their PVP. Did anyone who use travel agents get this offer?

 

Yes. 23 cruises taken, all using the same travel agent (not a PVP) and I received the letter on Monday. Called our TA Tuesday... his comment... "with as many cruises you have taken with them, it's about time they give you a free one!". We're now booked on the Breeze sailing Apr 12 using this offer.

Iowa is definately represented now!
