Do you know how much rain will be coming from long week of rain forecasted from 6th to the 12th and beyond depending on locale?

I would think that should bring up the gauge and keep it stable for the river cruiseships. Our AMA Siena cruise leaves on the 15th.

Also interested.  We sail on Uniworld SS Antionetee on 9/11 - 9-18

Not quite on topic but we are currently on the Moselle just past Mehring and it has been raining for about an hour.      Fields nearby are so dry .
Sailing to Basel and have been told we should be able to make it through the Rhine gorge later this week.

Glad to hear this.  We are doing Basel to Amsterdam 9/11.  Praying for good water levels.

@momofthre3 posted this earlier today: "Today we got a call that our August 21 Uniworld cruise was still on. Then several hours later it has officially been cancelled."

September 11 is too far away to say anything specific. Even the forecast for the river is too tentative to post it here. We will need to see how things go after this rain. We may end up with a sightly higher level that can be sustained but no one is in doubt that we need to see more than just 36 hours of some rain to get us into September, i.e. get proper cruising back.

We will keep looking at the river levels and hopefully more cruisers will be so helpful and post their experiences - thanks to everyone who has returned home or is sailing now  :classic_smile: - in the next weeks.

Has Uniworld not communicated with you about potential problems yet? it is a bit early so I would not expect them too. Just asking.

Haven't heard anything yet from Uniworld.

We are considering that cruise with Uniworld sometime in September or October this year and are also concerned.  It seems the SS Antoinette has not cruised through or below the Rhine Gorge for quite a few days.  Has Uniworld contacted you?

We have not heard from them.   Our friends just paid for an upgrade and got notification 2 days ago.

Thanks for the link, Daisi. That is a Canadian website, right? Never seen it before. The generalization is there, but at least they do not call it "death of river cruising". Still cannot get over that stupid headline. Anyway, in this logistics article they say and quote: "Closure of the German waterway was announced late on Friday as water levels on the Kaub gauge hit 37cm – 41cm is necessary for operations..." and "Barge operator Contargo said: “For reasons of safety we shall largely discontinue our navigation on the Upper and Middle Rhine.”" The first is obviously not correct as barges are still sailing even as I write, but the second I have read in German myself. The company has done that and much cargo is going by rail and road instead.

Meanwhile, I read that the large barge - a "Verband" as we call it - that had got stuck during the night near Oberwesel is free and had has moved further up to Bingen. The river was closed to shipping but is now open gain for upstream sailing. Downstream is not possible as the double-width barge is too dangerous to pass. The authorities expect full traffic to resume later today. Video says it had engine problems and needed to throw anchor. It is 190m long and 23m wide! https://www.swr.de/swraktuell/rheinland-pfalz/koblenz/schifffahrt-mittelrhein-gesperrt-motorschaden-100.html

We are doing the Rhine - Basel to Amsterdam September 11, 2022.  Very worried.  Our trip has been cancelled twice already due to covid.  Please keep us updated.  Thanks.

  7. We just got back from our cruise. We booked with Omar also. He was waiting for us at the gates. We had a great time driving around the island.

I am so jealous. Our stop in Grand Turk got cancelled due to the weather in the beginning of March. We did not get to rent our golf cart as planned. So bummed.

  8. Hey, what a great video!! Very entertaining. I always wondered what a cove balcony was.... thanks. Great shots of Topher .... he sure likes to dig!

I think I saw your name from a previous thread. I believe we are on the same cruise. We leave March 3rd on the Conquest. Did you join our facebook page?

  9.

We did not walk right this time over the conch graveyard, but I understand from another passenger it's still there. They said there were some beautiful conches there with the pink in the middle, not just the totally bleached out/petrified conches. Typically we walk right off the dock, around the point, and snorkel off the beach. We were going to, but did not do that this time because we tried something we have never tried before and we were too tired to snorkel afterwards . . .

The FLOWRIDER !! It was so much fun !!!!!!! My husband & I are both over 50 years old and I'm not the most athletic person (think Ally McBeal walking into doors or falling when walking on flat surface :

Hi! I had information a few years ago on the conch graveyard, but misplaced it. Could you tell me how to get to it and if it is worth going? Thanks. And what is Flowrider?

  10. So I ended up booking Country Inn & Suites there on Astronaut. They offered free hot breakfast and we managed to get a 1 bedroom family suite for a decent price ($139).

Residence Inn was over $200 and just couldn't justify that price for only over night.

Now I'm hoping that the place will still be standing after Irma hits. :(

Hi there! Is the Country Inn & Suites close to Port? Thanks.

  11. I highly recommend Wet Money for golf cart rental. We had a great day exploring the island and beaches.

Thanks. How long did you explore? What did you go see on the island? How many hours did they allow you to rent golf cart? Thanks
