  1. If both parties have insurance and one cancels for a reimbursable reason, the remaining party that is charged the single supplement could have that refunded by the insurance company.

This has happened to me. I cancelled because of my husband's illness. My traveling companion went in the cabin as a single. I received a refund for my portion. My traveling received reimbursement for the single supplement.

  2. No media outlet is reporting this. All that is known is the plane was found against a granite rock 800 feet above Ella Lake. No word yet on survivors.

News media is now reporting that NTSB says multiple fatalities.

  3. We are cruising Alaska this August, with a two day extension to Denali. The "brochure" for this cruise indicates on day two of the Denali visit, a Tundra Wilderness Tour (lunch included). However, the cruise itinerary that includes shore excursions, does not refer to this, nor can I find any info about it. Has anyone experience with this tour? What time of day and length of tour? Information would be helpful, as there are activities we want to participate in, but don't want to miss any included activities. Thanks for any help.

We are doing a double Denali tour in July. Go to the page where you can book excursions on the day you are taking the Wilderness Tour. If you are scheduled for the morning tour, no excursions will be available for you to book in the morning. If you are on the afternoon tour, nothing will be available in the afternoon and early evening. When we got our express docs, we were listed on the afternoon tour that departs between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m. I'm glad we are on the afternoon trip. The morning trip departs between 5 and 9 a.m.!

The tour is run by the National Park Service. You can find more info about it at their website http://www.reservedenali.com/play/tours/tundra-wilderness.aspx

  4. Call HAL. I had a question about the shuttle since the sailing of the Oosterdam has been moved up to 4 pm on July 19. Our docs say last shuttle at 10:30 am. HAL confirmed that is the only shuttle. She said even if there are 2 buses, they will both leave at 10:30 am.

  5. We are taking the Double Denali starting June 28 from Vancouver. I printed the documents yesterday with the most detailed itinerary I have seen to date. And I saw no mention of any sort of meal plan. Where is the info about this? I wonder about it, though my inclination is to do meals on our own.

I read about the plan on the web. I called HAL for the information.

  6. We, too, have decided not to get the meal plan. I have looked at the menus of some restaurants (I have a list of several for each stop) and, while more expensive than at home, we could find several things we would like to try, many with a local touch. I will try to keep track of the costs and report back at the beginning of June on how we fared.

That would be wonderful! Thank you!

  7. We are doing a Double Denali Cruisetour (R6C) in July. I've been to Alaska before, so I know that the food can be pricey. The food package is $199 pp for 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts in Denali, lunch on the train, plus dinner in Anchorage. I am told gratuities are included. Can I hear from passengers who have bought the meal plan. Is it a good deal? How is the food quality?
