Ship Addict

I went on 2 cruises last year without my spouse and had ZERO GUILT. As a matter of fact, I had more fun on both of those cruises than I ever had on cruises that I went on with him.

I have some 5-days from July. I have been meaning to scan them in and post. But dang Carnival, they don't make the paper in a very easy format to scan in! Have to do everything one page at a time instead of just feeding everything in in a batch!

I am very lazy, so this has been sitting on the back burner!

LOL! Well, HOPEFULLY, if nothing goes wrong, we will be able to debark early that morning (with Platinum debarkation). So it's do-able. We have lots of time to plan. I would like to meet you and several of my CC'ers that day, if possible. I wish we were joining you on the group cruise, but I wanted to book on our 40th anniversary.

Well let's tentatively plan for a Starbucks meetup right across the street for that morning. All us Team Magic people can arrive super early and have coffee and a danish while we wait for y'all get your butts off OUR boat!! :D

I had booked by 9:00 AM the day booking opened. I can't wait to try a cove balcony! :) I thought I'd better grab one before all the good ones were gone on that particular sailing, which is our 40th wedding anniversary.

I'm not booked on my cruise yet! So can't put any numbers in to get the prices of the excursions. DH won't let me book yet and I'm trying to entice him!

Capers -- thanks KCFan but your link didn't work for me. I suppose that link was specific to you and teh cruise you booked.

I don't like the way Carnival's website lists the excursions. i want the actual print out that you get on the ship. On the website, you have to click on each excursion to get the details on it, and it doesn't give you the prices. So i will still hold out for the printed copy of hte excursions.

galveston check-in -- I have gotten there as early as 10:30 in the morning and gotten on the ship with very little wait. If you get there at 11:30-12, be prepared for a mob scene!

I'm still looking for a copy of the printout of the shore excursions for the conquest, so if anyone has them, please scan them in and post them!

That's a Catahoula Cur? I was born and raised in New Orleans, and spent most of my teenage life in McComb, MS, and we had several Catahoula Curs. They were all splotchy gray with bright blue eyes. That guy looks like a black and tan.

She is black and grey with tan legs. Her eyes are half brown and half blue, cut right across the middle of the eye. It's really freaky. When we first got her (from the pound) I quickly realized she wasn't the Australian Shepherd they had promised her to be, so I did a little research and figured out she was a Catahoula. She looked just like the dogs on several websites I found. She looks like she could even be show quality, except for the one ear that won't stand up.

Yes, they are wonderful dogs. But she ate my house when she was a puppy!! If you don't keep them busy they get into all kinds of trouble! But she is now old and crotchety and just lays around on the couch.

If im not badly mistaken the Catahoula Cur Dog is so named because it originated in Catahoula Parish, Louisiana....also it is a wives tale in LA that a true curr has one glass eye leading to the saying...thats an ole glass eyed curr dog. My uncle had one several years ago and it was a real good dog.

Yes, that's how I understand they got their name too. She does kind of look like she has a glass eye. They are really freaky and she has scared many a stranger!

I am kinda miffed how Carnival can be seen as a minivan. Minivans to me are pretty much all about family. What is it? Party ship or Family ship? I mean, I don't mind people thinking of it as a family ship, but it just seems strange since we all know that Carnival's reputation was a party ship for so many years. I had no idea it had flip flopped so quickly. I think it would be wrong to give it either reputation since it has something for everyone.

Maybe I should clarify -- not only is the minivan a "family car," it is also a "party car." What could be better than having one designated driver and six partiers?? It is also a great road trip vehicle -- plenty of room to stretch out and take a nap while someone else drives and plenty of luggage space.

So the minivan is very multipurpose and so is Carnival. I have been on a young singles' cruise, anniversary cruise, family cruise, girls' only cruise, and honeymoon cruise and I have felt like Carnival catered to me and my type of passenger every time.

I picked the the Dodge Caravan because there is room for the whole family (Carnival caters to the family), lots of space, and more economical. I would say Royal Carribbean would fit the Odyssey more than Carnival would. Whenever I compare cruise prices, Carnival always comes out to be the better bargain.

I was told there was one on the Elation, but when I was there in October I couldn't find it.

Why do they have to lock up those books anyway? They are just a bunch of old paperbacks! Just leave the cabinets open. Some people will take a book, others will leave a book.

Maybe they could move all games to Camp Carnival. If you want to check out a game, you go see them to check it out. There is pretty much always someone there (except very, very late at night).

The free cruises are great IF you can follow their instructions to the letter. Who is the marketing company you are dealing with? I have dealt with two in the past -- Spirit Incentives and Infinity Incentive Group.

Spirit Incentives seemed like a reputable company to me. I had to pay the $100 deposit when I booked, but when I had to cancel the reservation, they promptly refunded my money. I wasn't asked to send them any more money until they had confirmed that I was booked on a cruise.

Infinity Incentives really pi**ed me off. I didn't find out until after I sent in the original "booking request" form that I had to pay for the entire trip in advance. They wouldn't extend my deadline or anything so I could have more time to gather the money. So I lost that trip.

The one thing I didn't like with incentive cruises, assuming everything else goes well, is the fact that you have to wait til about 30 days out before you know for sure if you are going to get on the ship or not. I think I would have been heartbroken if I got all excited about a cruise, did a bunch of new cruise clothes shopping, etc., and then found out I wasn't going to make it on the ship.

All that said, I would not go through all the garbage to get the "free cruise" anymore. I have tried twice and failed, so now instead of investing all that time and energy in getting a few hundred dollars off a cruise, I think I would rather just fork out the additional money and KNOW that I will be on the ship and sailing of my choice.
