  1. Where are all the diamond/platinum passengers who were bitching and complaining when this program first came out???

I will tell you I thought it stunk...wasn't fair to those of us who cruised 10 times or more etc... But after some time, it occured to me that it really doesn't matter as long as it is kept to a minimum... And personally, I think most of you are donating $50 for no real good reason...

Unless you REALLY have a need for it, like cruising with young kids or cruising with someone with a health issue, the rest is just throwing away $50 that can be used for something else... hello DOD !!!

If you get to the Port early enough, you get Zone 1... you don't have to pay for it...

If you get to the Port late, there is usually no line and then you just sign in and walk on, you don't have to pay for it

If you have a question for Guest Services, pick up the phone and ask them or go to them at an off hour, no line and you don't have to pay for it

If you are on a cruise with no tender ports, then you don't have to pay for it...

And if you're going to tell me that you paid $50 so you don't have to carry around your carryon and can drop it off in the cabin, well then hahahahahah... That is just plain ridiculous...

    OK... flame away :)

But FTTF really didn't affect you, or your perks, or your cruise, did it??

  2. No it isn't. FTTF is a "pay to break in line in front of others" program. In most places, line breaking is cause for ejection. On Carnival, line breaking is a cause for more Carnival profits, at the expense of their other customers. FTTF is a bad program.

LOL....completely disagree with your interpretation of FTTF...but we are all entitled to our own opinions. This type of pay incentive program is EVERYWHERE...airlines, amusement parks, etc. It's a great business decision in my opinion. :)

  3. This is on a trial basis only, presently on the Carnival Victory, Carnival Splendor, Carnival Breeze, Carnival Dream, Carnival Conquest; Carnival Legend; Carnival Valor and the Carnival Liberty.

Under the Cheers Beverage Program!, guests can enjoy a wide variety of wine, beer and spirits, along with sodas and non-alcoholic frozen cocktails throughout the voyage at one convenient, flat rate. The cost for this program is $42.95 per person, per day, plus a 15% gratuity.

Guests can sign up for the Cheers Beverage Program at the Atrium Bar, Casino Bar or the bar at the main pool area.

It's on the Glory now, too.....

  4. Yes that is a good plan as long as they do not put a stop to it. :). I have not decided which way to go with them yet for our Jan cruise. Part of me says try it, and part of me says just call in the OBC as I have done in the past.

Personally, I like to call & have OBC added to my booking. But this is a nice alternative or gift idea (unless you live in Canada:()

  5. I called the gift card section yesterday with a few questions and this is what I have been told.

1.Q. Can I use the card around the ship?

    A. No you have to apply it to your sail and sign account.

    2. Q. Ok, If I apply $500.00 in gift card OBC but only spend $400.00 will they issue me a credit or antother card?

    A. Neither, any unused portion is NON Refundable.

    3. Q. So I am better off just putting cash in as an OBC because they will refund the unused amount correct?

    A. That is correct.

To me I really like the idea of the gift card, it would be nice to give as a gift to help pay down someone's cruise, but I see Carnival making ALOT of money on this too, because of all the loose few dollars not used.

I sure hope they come up with something a little clearer on the left over part. Oh and you can by up to 5 cards for the .95 cent shipping so 1 card and 5 cards at the same time is the same shipping cost.

You can get any or all the cash out of your onboard acount at any slot machine in the casino, easy peasy.

  6. Currently, they are still available. Not sure what will happen in the future. I know that my older relatives still like buying the FSD for us because it's so easy and once they receive them, they can send them to us and it becomes a gift. Oh well... we'll see what happens in the future.

    http://www.carnival.com/BonVoyage/AddToCart.aspx?cat=giftcertificates&pid=FSD

Q: What happens to the existing gift certificate dollars?

A: Effective November 2012, Funship Dollar, Scrip Dollar, and Cruise Dollar certificate programs will be discontinued. All gift certificates purchased prior to November 2012 will be honored and processed accordingly.

Thanks! So now I wonder if you can still call & purchase OBC to be applied directly to your booking, rather than buying a gift card(s).

  7. Not to argue but don't we tip 11.50 per person per day? Don't the people that deliver our food get a portion of that? That's $80.50 PER PERSON which for us was $161 which was more than our airfare (given we got VERY reasonable airfare :) ) but I feel like with the cost of the cruise + 20% added onto every drink we ordered + $161 in gratuity no one should EXPECT anything additional. Especially in a rude & awkward way. Don't get me wrong I understand where you're coming from, I just don't particularly agree considering the close to $200 in tips we spend over the course of 7 days.

First, thanks for the review... I LOVE that ship! To answer the room service/tip question, NO... room service delivery people do not get any of the daily auto-tips. So next time, please be sure to tip them.;)

  8. I didn't read the links but just wanted to say... the Legend is one of my top fave ships! Pay very little attention to reviews like that. You don't know these people. I am convinced some people seem to look for anything negative. And I know that poeple do have issues, it I'm sure they happen on every ship and every cruiseline, but don't let anyone elses opinion change anything. Go find out for yourselves!! I have never had a bad cruise or had anything greatly impact my cruise experience. Often times, it's all in the attitude. Cheers!

  9. when I tell others who cruise that have never cruised on carnival that I sail with Carnival most immediately say they would never cruise with Carnival, due to the excessive partying that goes on.

I dont drink and have never noticed this...and I would notice it if it was around me...I just dont get it.

I would ask whoever says this IF they have ever been on a Carnival cruise. And if so, WHEN? Most of the time, they have not even sailed Carnival. It's their loss. :D

  10. The issue is Roatan vs Mahogany Bay.

Roatan is wonderful, while Mahogany bay is simply a Carnival village designed to keep you and all your money in Carnival's control. It is not like Roatan, but is nothing more than an extension of the ship just like the private islands with more shops, all run by or leased by Carnival.

The thing to do at Roatan is to get as far away from Mahogany Bay as possible and you will have a great time.

I agree! MB is a very nice beach area, but Roatan is AMAZING. Best zip-lining ever (not at MB either ;)) Get out & explore & enjoy!!

  11. No - you will want to call them and put the "AT&T World Traveller" plan on your account. It's $5.99/month and you can put in on right before you leave and take it off once you get back and all of the charges post to your account. We usually take it off about 3 week to a month after we get back - just to be safe.

The international services department at AT&T has always been very helpful. They look up where we going, give us the options and answer all of my questions. Even though we have iPhones - we don't use data while on the cruise - so the World Traveller that lets us make and receive calls and texts is what we always go with. Texts are the least expensive - .50 sent or received. So it allows us to check in on things at home without paying 2.49/minute.

This is not true. You don't need that international plan thing at $5.99/month just to send/receive texts, as the poster was asking. AT&T charges 50 cents to send and whatever your plan charges to receive; if unlimited texting, nothing to receive. You don't need any special plan for this. Done it many, many times.

  12. .50 to send a text message; 1.30 to send a picture/video message. If you have a plan, texts received count as regular texts under the plan. For unlimited, it means you can receive for free; for someone with a 200 text plan, for example, received texts just count against that limit.

    See http://www.wireless.att.com/learn/international/roaming/international-roaming.jsp

I can confirm this is correct! Texting is the easiest/cheapest way to go.

  13. Thanks for the promo code folks! I didn't dare cancel & rebook my HMC cabana, as they have been sold out for quite some time now & I didn't want to risk not getting it back. But I did cancel & rebook another excursion & saved some moola for 4 people.

girlscruise, thaks for the info about the refund not appearing for a few days on your account. I wondered about that. They immediately took the money out for the re-book, but still nothing showing up as a credit yet, LOL..
