  1. We, as are a few others out there, are not as young as we once were & are now buying the Princess platinum insurance. We have had to use it twice; once for medical; once for stolen luggage. it is good to have when you need it!

It does not cover stolen passports...you are on your own for that.

  2. Is it true that if you want a large you also have to ask for it 'to go'?

Yes, the regular size comes in a china cup & the large in a paper cup.

I thought I had read somewhere that you could exchange your Elite liquor selection for a coffee card. Is this still the case? Thanx, Steve

  3. Speaking of conversation monopolizers...My husband Pete & I and my little brother Peter (we ditched him in Anchorage) were sailing 7-days to Alaska from Vancouver and then the two of us were continuing 15-days to China.

At the table were two lovely ladies from Brisbane, Australia. The monopolizer went on endlessly about who-knows-what & we dubbed him "The Mad Professor from England."

One of the ladies told Pete she was sorry to leave us but she could not take any more of the professor. Pete said to stick with us and laid down the new rule that when done with one subject one had to shut up to let others in. Worked beautifully all the way to Beijing!

  4. British Columbia in August...Blueberries, peaches & nectarines, oh my!

I did not see what time of year OP was here, but blueberries only come in late July & much of August.

As to the shortage of lemons, it may have been something stupid, such as the supplier's having neglected to ship them or shorting them on the load. I worked many years as a supermarket receiver and can assure you this happens often.

  5. . And yet US cruisers seemingly can reprice as much as they like. They also get much better offers from the outset.

Your observation comes with this caveat...If you book a "SALE" cruise you can indeed get a price reduction by calling. However, once the "SALE" has expired you will most likely lose any of the freebies offered when you booked (pre-paid gratuities, onboard credit, etc,)

  6. Do you normally hang around the pool on Princess ships naked... except when eating fries?

Bill, I have to confess that I usually wear a napkin.

(Actually, your subject line never even occurred to me, although Pete certainly would have pointed it out & told me to leave it in the post.)

  7. Don’t forget to ask for and eat a bowel of dingle berries. You may want to count them first to ensure you are getting your fair share;

THIS IS AN ACTUAL TRUE STORY...(from real life, I swear!!)

My spouse worked with a woman who called her granddaughter "My little dingleberry." He explained that maybe that wasn't a great nickname. She did not believe him and asked her husband and daughter who said it was lovely until finally her son clued her in.

BTW, do you use ketchup or mayonnaise with your French fries. Or eat them naked? I do not eat many, usually buck naked. If we are out with Pete's cousin she brings most of mine home & feeds them to her chickens.

I prefer hamburgers with a combo of mustard & mayo...makes me welcome in Montréal.

  8. If we purchase the Princess Insurance, is the amount of the Medical portion dependent on the length of the cruise or the ports or parts of the world visited? Or is it always the same amount?

I forget the exact amount, but it is a constant % of the fare.

I did have to use medical once, and as a poster states, you have to send a claim to your own health insurance before your cruise insurance kicks in.

We had a carry-on stolen in Venice airport and lost some stuff and our Passports (never again in the carry-on!). The insurance paid everything including train tickets to Milano, where the US Consulate replaced the passports. We were on the hook for Passports as they are not covered.

  9. They also ran low on lemons and rationed them only as garnish for fish

I am among the few who have no use for lemon on fish or chicken. (Strangest use of lemons, ever ! In Paris Corona Beer with lemon instead of lime.)

OTOH, if there is tartar sauce with fish I put it on the potatoes. Same goes with horseradish sauce...mix it into the mashed taters, not on the steak.

  10. Princess' waiters will be glad to get you anything to mix-and-match...If one item offers fries and steak and another baked tater and fish, you can ask for the fries with the fish, and a veggie from something else entirely.

On our first Trans-Atlantic there was an entrée of Pork Normande with mixed veggies (which I detest as an unholy creation of an evil entity) and something else with braised red cabbage, which I thought was the perfect addition (It was). No problem, sir, coming up!

  11. the only rules observed by scooters were in the same category as Australian Football Rules....(Used to enjoy Aussie football on the Wide World of Sports)

Just ask her not to drive at high speed, daring people to get out of the way, with her granddaughter sitting on her lap. (Yes this did happen in a main corridor at a casino in Connecticut. it was like watching the Demolition Derby, also on Wide World.

    Steve)

  12. The alleged problem lies in the fact that traveling to the east you only get a 23-hour day due to heading into the sun due to time zones. If you stay in only one time zone you get your 24-hour day, as expected. The bonus comes if you are heading from Europe to North America...brace yourself, the days become 25-hours long. Princess cannot change the times of the sun.

You can always travel from east to west and pay Princess for the extra hour.

    Steve.
