  1. Anyone ever refused for using a passport that expires less than six months of return?

YES!!! I had a family member who was denied due to their passport expiring less than 6 months of return. Remember that some countries DO require a valid passport and it is the traveler's responsibility to make sure of the rules (Costa Rica being one of them). My family member had to get an expedited passport ($$$$$) and board the ship two days later. Their response is that they will NEVER have that happen again.

  2. I've never seen any. Wheelchairs and scooters owned by passengers. Not that long of a walk, so might not be economical for the port to operate.

You should contact the special needs department of your cruise line and see what type of equipment they have on board ships.

    Thanks - will do. :D

  3. As we were debarking Pride on May 15, the first cruise with the new embarkation path, (We were waiting to embark on May 8 when the accident occurred.) I asked Steve the CD how long will the crew have to deal with passengers embarking and debarking on Deck A. He told me until next February.

It looks as though it will be fully repaired by the time our trip comes about. :)

But I would assume that embarkation and debarkation on Deck A might be easier for handicapped passengers.

  4. My preference is first day at sea midmorning Meet & Mingles /Meet & Greets. What do you all say?

    Smooth sailing, Scuttle

Of the ones I've attended, they were all mid-morning around 10AM on the first sea day. I think this is the best time to begin new relationships for the rest of the week.

  5. Hello Everyone!

We are so pleased to announce our new partnership with Carnival Cruise Lines to offer you, our members, access to exclusive onboard Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle Parties!

Carnival will host private parties for Cruise Critic members who have signed up prior to sailing – a private room and refreshments and snacks will be provided by the cruise line. Meet & Mingles will be held on all Carnival sailings of 7-days or longer. The day, time & location of the party will be published in Fun Times no later than the evening prior to the party.

To attend a Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle on your Carnival sailing, please register here: Register To Attend

Be sure to register soon for your sailing; there is a 14-day advance notice to Carnival!

Parties will be scheduled when there are 25 or more Cruise Critic members (family & friends too) registered to attend. Here is more information about our new partnership with Carnival to bring you Cruise Critic Meet & Mingle parties.

Parties will begin for sailings in April.

We are so excited about this opportunity for our members, and hope you will all have a great time meeting each other at these Official Meet & Mingle gatherings on board your Carnival cruise!

    Outstanding... :D

    Looking forward to it.

  6. So I noticed Carnival only has a couple of sailings listed for the Pride in summer (June - August) 2017. Is it possible they will be announcing a new route, maybe at a future date?! (wishful thinking :D)

I'm kind of upset they went with basically the same itineraries.

Don't know, but we are looking at booking the Eastern Caribbean on the Pride in August.

  7. Drake - thanks for the suggestion of Pier 69 during our stop. So my day in St Croix will be The Leap and then Pier 69.

I look forward to getting back to your island. A few years ago my wife and I spent a week there. We stayed in Frederiksted and toured all over including the east end. The best part was having dinner with our new found friend and his family in his apartment in a Christiansted project.

Everyone we met left us with a feeling of being truly welcomed.:D

  8. Thank you to HarpHarp and Lard Greystoke for defending my home.

I have been trying to figure out just what so say about all of this from the local viewpoint, so here goes:

Every community has crime, some more than others, but sensationalizing it only aggravates the situation.

All of the shootings have taken place away from Frederiksted (where the cruise ships dock) and have involved locals only.

As a visitor to my island you are perfectly safe getting off your ship and enjoying the west end. Please don't go wandering in the projects and the low income housing and you will be fine.

Drake - thank you for your words. With your permission I am copying your response to my group. I look forward to at least sharing a beer with you when we arrive.:D

  9. I thought I had already answered this on another thread but I just went and looked and I guess the app ate my reply! Sorry about that!

Anyway I'm not familiar with the mahogany guy so I have no advice there. As far as pubs go The Lost Dog on King Street is a good bet for a good time.

Thanks - I imagine we'll just look for carvings in town and the Lost Dog will be my resting place while the shopping carnage takes place. :D

  10. Here's the secret to avoiding the drop off at Sandcastle. Come straight off the stairs by the pool and walk across the beach. Look for the two rock formations just under the water, they should be dead ahead of you. Walk between them and you will find a nice gentle slope with no noticeable drop off.

    Enjoy your time here!

Drake - We'll be arriving St Croix Monday November 2nd. I've heard about someone called "The Mahogany Guy" who sells carvings located somewhere in the forest. Is this something we should check out and if so what is the best way to get there?

Also what is a good pub for an afternoon break while my wife and her friends go shopping?
