From the ship, did you just take a taxi straight to Balneario also?  Cost?  How long did the drive take?  Also, did they take a credit card at the restaurant or just cash?  Thanks much

Yes, there was a taxi stand at the Port and we took one straight to Balneario. I believe it was 15 euros total and the drive was about 15 minutes. Yes, the restaurant took credit cards. I had fish entree but my friend had a salad. The menu was pretty varied and different price points depending on your preference. There was also a woman doing massages on the beach, if that was of interest.

How was your experience at Balneario Illetas?  We are currently booked at Puro for this coming Monday, but thinking of changing to Balneario because we can get in an hour earlier than Puro and with a short day in Mallorca anyway, trying to make the most of it.

We had a really nice day at Balneario Illetas. We arrived early and they gave us our selection of chairs in the roped off area.  We had to remind them to bring the water/fruit but no big deal. The attendant made us a lunch reservation at their restaurant and called us a taxi to take us back to the port.  There was a gelato stand too and 1 cute shop that I popped into and bought a bracelet. We left by 3pm so I think it was great for the value of being there roughly 5 hours. But it may not be as private as Puro as there are non-paid sections on this section of the beach with people even just laying out on towels on the sand. But that didn't bother me as I had a chair facing the sea and the sun.  Oh and the water was nice. You could walk out far before it got deep and there wasn't waves. So would be great if you had kids too.

If you look back to page 17 post 421 I have posted pictures of my recommendation ,there are 3 beaches in Illetas  which Is about 12/14 euros in a taxi and 15 mins from the port and has a good beach bar.

Thanks! We have decided to go to Balneario Illetas.  For future reference, premium sun bed´s price is 28€ per person and includes towel rental, sunshade, mineral water and fruit salad. You pay upon arrival. They confirmed the reservation quickly via email.   This looks like a nice destination (right next to Purobeach) and much cheaper considering we'd only be able to enjoy the amenities until mid-afternoon. And the menu for the restaurant looks decent too! :-)

I would book the cheaper option as I am sure you will be able to up grade on the day .

In speaking with my friend, is there a beach you recommend that we can take a taxi to and back to the port easily from and just rent chairs there? And be nearby for places to get lunch? NCL takes you to Palma Nova but it is only 4 hours and I don't want to leave the beach at 1pm! https://www.ncl.com/shorex/219828571/41330557/shorex-detail/PMIN67#?productType=EXCURSION&lang=&date=

I live within 200 yards of illetas beach and this the nearest exclusive beach club to the port .it is expensive and you will not find the average tourist there, not sure if this is what you are looking for ,but remember you are constricted by time.

If you want to go where all the action is go to Nikki Beach.

It is what I am looking for. Just when you make a reservation, there are 2 distinct spots to pick from so I want to make sure before I pay, that I pick the right one. :)

I think this something  new still an extra 10 euros is not alot as a glass  of cava is about 8 euro there,

I'm not as concerned about the alcohol. I am just not sure if the beach or the oasis is the more favorable spot to lounge in for the day. Has anyone been there recently?

Hi Roger...thanks for the tips! We are arriving on August 28th for the day on the Norwegian Pearl. What is the difference between Purobeach Illetas and Purobeach Palma?

    https://www.purobeach.com/en/beach-club-illetas/

    https://www.purobeach.com/en/beach-club-palma/

Actually, I think I just answered my own question by looking on a map. Palma is near the airport! So Illetas it is!

But can you tell me if we reserve the beach area or oasis? Oasis is 10 euros more and includes a glass of cava too.

  8. Just back from the 1/30 CTN. Embarkation was simple and the cabins were already open when I boarded at 1pm. I was traveling in a group of 9 and we only waited 5 minutes for a table at Taste on Friday night. Rock of Ages was great! And we spent the rest of the evening bouncing between Howl at the Moon and Bliss.

Saturday morning the ship was very unsteady! The movement woke me up at 6am. The fitness center was packed by 8am - so get there early if you want to get a machine. They had to close the outside decks due to high winds. We were only 25 miles off the coast of Long Island and heading east. Later in the afternoon they announced they changed course a little bit to steady the ship more. This is my 2nd time on the Breakaway and I couldn't believe how much that ship was swaying! The day 2 daily said it was 62 degrees - not sure why they put that when it was like 20 degrees!! Would have been nice if they headed a little south but perhaps the whole eastern seaboard was cold with high winds so they figured to keep the ship local.

We wanted to have lunch at Taste or Savor on Saturday but were turned away as they had no availability. So go early if you don't want to eat at the buffet. The ship definitely felt crowded on 6, 7 and 8 on Saturday afternoon as everyone congregated in those areas since there wasn't any outdoor options available. There was also a long line for O'Sheehans for a table even at 3pm!

Saturday night we had a nice dinner in Manhattan and proceeded to the GLOW party. I was disappointed they didn't do the full show like they do on the week longs outside at Spice H20. I guess they can't accommodate that in bliss but they had face paint for those who wanted it.

We had breakfast at 7:30am, left our cabins at 8:30 and disembarked easily. There were plenty of cabs outside but we got an uber instead to pick us up.

  9. Thank you for all the reviews!

Did anyone go to the Ice Bar for drinks?

    Happy Cruising!

I attempted to go to the ice bar on Friday night but ended up not going inside. It was $20 and you get 2 specialty svedka vodka drinks. I am allergic to vodka and they told me those were the only drinks served inside. So I passed on it.

  10. I have joined my roll call, but it is not very active. I could see if anyone would be interested. The only place that I am somewhat hesitant to try something is Nassau. That place just creeps me out.

I was a solo traveler last week and in Nassau I took the city bus by myself for $1.25 to the Melia resort for the day. I never felt unsafe. If you are looking for something more active, then perhaps just book through the cruise line.

  11. Great to know! Thanks for sharing. May I ask, about what time did you arrive at the resort?

I believe I arrived by 9:30am. There were plenty of beach chairs at all times during the day. It never felt crowded. I left the resort at 2:30 as clouds rolled in and I wanted to hit up Senor Frogs and the straw market before returning to the ship.

  12. I was just at the Melia for the day on Thursday. I took the #10 bus for $1.25 each way and it was very simple. I bought the package onsite at the resort for $50 which included lunch. My lunch alone totaled about $40 as their food is expensive, but it was all included. The waitress said I could order as much as I wanted and could get 2 soft drinks. So I got a salad ($12), a grilled chicken entree ($19) and iced tea ($3 each) plus tax. So really I only paid $10 to sit on their beach and it was a gorgeous day! The beach was relaxing and a lot quieter than the ship.

  13. This is up to you. You will definitely lose at least one day down and one day up due to cold weather in Feb. (maybe a day and a half)

If you don't want the expense of Vibe, there were plenty of lounges in the area right next to Vibe - they were always empty! Not many people seemed to know of that area. In fact, if you don't have to be near the pools, there are plenty of lounges to be found in many other areas on the decks above the pools. I am not so sure I would spend the money on Vibe coming from NY in the winter, and going off the ship on port days.

Thank you for the feedback! Maybe I will just check out one of the other adult only areas. I don't really care for the pool...just the sun if it is warm enough.
