  1. According to Wikipedia, visits ashore are not allowed. And if you look at Google Maps, the islands don't look very approachable.

Coronado island off the coast of Loreto is visited by many people, and the white sand beach is very nice. Good for snorkeling, swimming, hiking and picnicing.

There are no restrooms on the island unless recently built. A couple of shade structures are all I have seen there, and maybe some crude palapas fishermen have built.

Google Coronado island Loreto for info and pictures.

  2. Lyft is around $30-35 door to door from FLL. I won’t use hotel or hotel arranged shuttles. They’ve always been more expensive, take longer and seldom leave or arrive on schedule

SAS is not booked through the hotels. They are independent and have a list of hotels that are within their range.

We have had excellent service every time we used them. I don't use hotel shuttles except from the airport to the hotel.

SAS rate is $15 per person and drops to $13 if you have more people in your party, so they are a little less costly than LYFT. They also pull a trailer for luggage so it is more comfortable for us.

  3. Not necessarily. Fortunately there are cruise lines for a wide variety of tastes, whether it be entertainment, dining or dress codes. Cunard lowered their standards slightly several years ago. (Jacket and tie were required of gents on non-formal nights, now ties are optional but worn by a very large number of men because they want to.) Most of their regular passengers are happy about fairly traditional dress standards. Cunard doesn't appear to have suffered. Since Carnival bought Cunard, three new ships were built and the QE2 was retired. A fourth ship has been ordered.

I'm not surprised that HAL changed "formal" to "gala" considering that casually-dressed people - and even a few slobs - were admitted to the MDR on formal nights on a cruise we took in 2015.

Cunard is owned by Carnival. Carnival became the most successful cruise line in the, world by catering to the masses.

Cunard could not survive as a stand alone cruise line and they were bought by Carnival. They DID suffer from being too rigid.

  4. Glad to hear that the dining room manager made that couple go elsewhere.

This jean wearing and short wearing has gotten out of hand.

Dress codes are rapidly changing in most venues due to economic trends and the changing ideas of style.

Cruise lines that try to hang onto the outdated dress codes face mounting pressure to change, and they will do so or they will fail to remain competitive.

  5. I see the complaints about vendors, and want to remind all of you that in legal terms, there are NO PRIVATE BEACHES IN MEXICO.

The Mexican constitution guarantees everyone access to beaches, so the vendors have the right to be there.

The "roped off areas" may be illegal, or are far enough from the water to be on private property.

  6. Puerto Caldera and Puntarenas are about 8 miles apart. They are not the same at all.

Caldera is a freight port and you will need a tour or taxi if you dock there. You will need to take,a free shuttle to the port gate as they don't allow walking

Puntarenas has a long dock that is right in town. They have a flea market at the dock and it about three blocks to the center of town. Bars and restaurants are also near the dock.

Many taxis and tour sellers will compete for your business and some offer tours for as low as 20 dollars per person.

  7. what's near the port? what to do there??

The,dock is right in town. About one block to the port gate and a short walk to the, center of town.

There are lots of three wheel bicycles used for transportation and they will take you across town to the beach or bar/restaurants and through some residential areas for 5 or 10 dollars.

The town is pretty small and usually they set up some souvenier stands in the park.

Some tours are offered that go out of town, also.

  8. I have walked past the dolphin pool on the,way to the downtown area from the dock. It is about a five minute walk.

The pool is right beside the malecon, so you should have plenty of time to do it.

I have not done the swim, but can,see people and dolphins through the glass from the malecon.

  9. As an afterthought, my bottle is sealed and since they don’t sell ID on board, why would they not allow it?

I believe NCL prohibits all beverages from being brought aboard by guests unless approved prior to boarding. This restriction has been in place since July 2016.

  10. We used Lyft to and from the port from FLL and had great service. I won’t use a shuttle service again. They’re more expensive and unreliable

SAS costs 13 to. 15 dollars per person and have been very reliable for us.

What price is Lyft and which shuttle companies should we avoid?

  11. If you visit that area again, take a look at Todos Santos. It is interesting.

Another suggestion would be a ten day cruise that goes to LaPaz and Loreto. Both are a little out of the normal tourist loop and pretty authentic. A trip from Loreto up the mountain to San Javier Mission was,a real treat for us.

  12. There will be several taxi drivers at the port who will take you to the divers and wait for you if you want.

We were there a couple of months ago and took a double deck glass bottom boat harbor tour. The boat was at a slip at the end of the park area near the ship. Cost was $8.00 US per person and was a good value.

I believe the boat was called Minka. We could see it when the ship docked.

The guys on the boat got off and climbed up some rocks to dive, also got under the boat with a sea urchin and attracted a lot of fish.

If you want to snorkel or swim, they will let you off at a beach restaurant and pick you up on the next trip.

The taxi and boat operators will look after you and keep you safe. We had no concerns while there.

  13. Thank you. So basically if we took the free drinks as part of the free at sea, we are not saving much. Being the sailaway deals 499.00 balcony room, then buy the package. for drinks 89.00 per person per day.....or the 599.00 balcony but includes the free at sea drinks and specialty rest. Sorry, I am used to Royal, just seems this is a little more involved! so the gratuity are 17.00 a person a day (for housekeeping, wait staff, etc)?

The numbers I posted are the gratuities on the UBP.

The daily service charges are in addition to that and are about 14 dollars per day per person.

The Specialty meal package also has a 20% gratuity charge added to the price but I don't know the price of that.
