  1. My DW and I are in the mid to late 60s. We get up a little after 5 am almost every day and crash about 10 pm. Been doing this for more than 15 years so our bodies are used to it. This may have something to do with the disappearing night life as well as the next days port. However, during some nights I plan on having a Red Bull to help out. :)

  2. This may or may not be an answer to some of the problem but how long has CC been doing auto posts to a roll call for members? We haven’t cruised for 4 years. I don’t remember this in other roll calls I participated in back then. I’ve noticed a lot of these auto posts were from new members of CC. Maybe an attempt by CC to get more participation? Most of the participating members on our roll call have been a member of CC for a while. As others have mentioned here some roll calls don’t pan out as being lively. But I agree about people that post comments that don’t have anything to do with the cruise but more about them thereby excluding others of the pleasure of reading about the cruise.

  3. Wife and I are going to Alaska this trip. It’s going to be a good test to see if we pack the right clothes as well as the correct amount. Going to the Caribbean is pretty easy to pack for. Shorts, t-shirts, bathing suits, etc. Alaska will be cold sometimes and nice others. Rainy then sunny. Inside clothes—outside clothes. Not counting all the sundries. I’ve learned about “bundle packing” to try helping with wrinkles. My wife takes more stuff than I do but she’s worth it. And I don’t have to hear the “I told you so’s”. :)

  4. It’s cheaper to pay the difference per drink than buy the upgrade. For instance, if you wanted Crown Royal instead of Canadian Club just pay the difference between the two. However, if you’re wanting the premium wines then you may have to upgrade. The price of a Premium Package has gone up. At least that’s what I’ve heard. Do a search on this site for Premium Packages and read the comments. I’ve got the same package as you but I’m just going for the by the drink difference.

  5. Some people like to kid. There is no deck 13. The ship skips that number of their decks.

It’s kind of like when I was in the Navy a old Chief told me to fetch a gallon of bulkhead remover. Doesn’t exist. Just a joke for newbies.

  6. By the way, although whiskeys(Burbons/Scotch/Irish) are made from barleys and other grains, the distilling removes/destroys the gluten and they are glutton free. Scotch is double distilled and the Irish (the greatest whiskeys!) are triple distilled.

Just a thought if a beer you can drink isn’t available!

We drink mostly Canadian but I want to try some Jameson Black Barrel if they have it.

Just love a cold beer on a hot day. And we get plenty of those here in Texas!

  7. I missed the title in your thread and only read the wheat part of your post.

    Where are you sailing from?

The UK produces a lot of gluten free beers now, if you are sailing from the UK it would be worth checking in the fridges of the passport bar.

I don’t think Celebrity have gone out of their way to provide any which is a shame.

We’re going on Solstice out of Seattle to view Alaska. I enjoy many different beers especially from Europe. However, most liquor stores here don’t carry to many GF beers. I think there’s not enough demand. We enjoy Canadian whiskey and Vodka for mixers. I sometimes wonder if thes cruise lines get really good deals by certain breweries and liquor makers to carry their beer and liquor. I would love to come to the UKas I’m 1/3 Irish and 2/3rds British. Someday!

  8. A beer like Omission would be great since she drinks that here. It has, as you say, the gluten removed. Do you know if there is a beer list that Celebrity has? No wheat or no gluten beer is necessary for people with celiac disease to drink it. Thanks for letting me know.

  9. We’re going to purchase a bouquet or two of flowers at the farmers market the day before we board the Solstice. I have some questions that I haven’t found answers to. 1. Do the merchants that sell the flowers sell plastic vases or something similar? I really don’t want to buy any because I don’t want to carry them back on a plane.

    2. If not, will the staff on board the Solstice have any that we could use?

    3. Hopefully I can get some of the chemical packages that keep the flowers fresh. ?

  10. I was in the US Navy and when I did duty on a ship we had red lights on at night. It doesn’t interfere with your sleep cycle like white light does. It also provides good visibility. I get up several times each night so I purchased a regular light sensor night light and some red bulbs to put in them. Works great! It turns it on when it’s dark. I don’t have to mess with it. I got mine thru Amazon. I’m taking mine in August on the Solstice.

  11. If you are looking at the Solstice for 8/24/18, check current prices.

Right now I am seeing lots of veranda staterooms for $1749, and category X (veranda guarantee) for $1649.

I don't know what you paid for your OV, but those are the same prices currently also showing for the OV categories!

If you can snag a covered balcony, you can sit out there and stay dry while you enjoy the views, even when it is raining.

Pick up a couple of deck blankets from the pool deck to keep in your cabin so you can snuggle up and stay warm on your balcony if it is a chilly day.

But you may have some very warm days (shorts and t-shirt days) in Alaska in August.

Well, I paid $200 pp less for the outside cabin. I’m still getting 2 free extras plus an extra $75 OBC. If the price goes down in a few months when they’re trying to fill the ship and they’re not obstructed I will probably get one. But this is an expensive cruise. More port fees and taxes and just overall up charging for, I feel, is because it’s in the USA. MUCH better pricing in the Caribbean. All the way around. Add my airline tickets in and WOW, I’m over $4,000 for the trip! So I better see a whale and it better serve me a drink after jumping around!

  12. We’ve booked an Alaska trip on Solstice in August 2018. Haven’t paid anything yet due to no deposit at time of booking. Will have to pay full amount in May. We currently have booked a outside cabin. We know it rains at anytime in Alaska or could be cold or warm on any day. We would still have a large window in the cabin to view the shore and could always go up to a deck sporting a great view if we wanted to. But, we’ve always had a balcony on cruises to the Caribbean and we’ve enjoyed it. However, it rained most days on one of our cruises and having a balcony was pretty worthless. My question: would it be worth $500 extra to change our cabin to a balcony?

  13. You didn’t mention what deck level you were looking at. If you don’t know already, the higher you go up the more motion you’ll experience. Also, are you booking a trip to an area that normally experiences rough seas? In rough weather sometimes nothing will help. For your case, the closer you are to the center of the ship the less you will experience rocking motion. I take it you’ve tried the patches they supply on the ship?
