  1. The Queens Grill opens promptly at 1:00 pm. and remains open until 2:30. The Grills lounge across the way on the QM2 will already be open for your pre-luncheon refreshment. On the Victoria and Elizabeth the Grills Lounge is between the two grills.

    Thank you

  2. Off menu dishes ordered, either by individuals or as a table on our last couple of cruises on Queen Elizabeth and Queen Victoria. Twenty four hours notice is usually given

    Garlic prawn linguine

    Spaghetti bolognese

Spaghetti scaloppine - all three cooked tableside

Peking Duck -three days notice needed

anything off the Lido pop up restaurant menus -discuss ''when'' with the Maitre 'd

Italian evening which involves table side cooking of the pasta -menu sorted out by the Maitre 'd - warning, the cold appetizer was a meal in itself, wonderful

Indian evening - menu sorted out by the Maitre 'd

a couple of days notice was given for the Italian/Indian meals

    Caesar salad - tableside prepared

Caviar as an appetizer as often as you wish - no need to pre order in my experience

Crepes Suzette- usually order at lunch time for dinner same evening but can ask that evening if it's possible and it often is

Hope this gives a few ideas for you. Enjoy.

Thanks - food for thought (lots of thought lol)

  3. Currently on QE and low sugar options available at all meals and even at afternoon tea if you ask for them, not all are great but some are lovely and better than the other sugared versions. Don’t miss the low sugar crumbles and custard they are yummy and they definitely don’t spike the blood glucose. It tasted so good I checked straight away. Wish I’d asked for the recipe. They will also provide low sugar ice cream if you give 5em some advance warning. Plenty of sugar free jams etc too. Pity they are not calorie free lol

  4. Well I'm so sorry I have read this thread as I was looking forward to my first cruise on Oceania! I am a 51 year old wheelchair user who enjoys pushing myself to get the most out of my holidays. Sure I use a chair but I am in the best position to decide what my capabilities are. I have been on hundreds of excursions and have NEVER slowed others down, in fact I am usually the first person to arrive at each timed point! And as for getting in people's way in the buffet - your comments make me so sad. Do you really think I shouldn't be allowed in the buffet or to choose my own food in case I slow you down for an extra second? I sincerely hope you never experience illness or disability!

  5. I have been following a blog on another site which has been posted at almost daily intervals by someone on the Arcadia World Cruise that is now coming to an end. She has been having an amazing time and at no point have I read about any particular problems on the ship. Yes things happen on a ship that is cruising day after day the whole year and when things happen they are attended to. I would go with no worries. I firmly believe that some reviews are written by people who haven't been on the cruise! I once read a review about a cruise I too had been on and there were some very fundamental errors which proved the writer had definitely not been on that cruise.

Hiya - please can you link me to tgis blog ? Am doing the 2019 world cruise thx

  6. In my experience P +O have real issues with disabled people. I order to use the tender you have to pass a mobility test (stepping over lines on a mat) even though they have wheelchair accessible tenders. They also have steps down to the tender area and although there is a stairlift they are very reluctant for people to use it. In terms of ports the high tidal ranges mean that they ban people who rely on wheelchairs owing ashore. This was the case for us in Bilbao (however we did find out after we sailed that some wheelchair users had been allowed to go ashore - so I was really upset. In my opinion other cruise lines try their hardest to make it work whereas P + O seem to have a "you can't do it" attitude.

  7. You would have to check directly with each cruise line but its my understanding that it's been posted on this forum that:

    • P&O only allows mobiity scooters if the passenger is booked in an accessible cabin
    • due to limited accomodations and accessibility mobility scooters are not suitable for river cruises
    • Viking Ocean Cruises prohibits mobility scooters and allows only folding/colapseble wheelchairs.

Pretty sure Cunard and celebrity as well as P+O require scooter users to book accessible cabins. For the Brits - Thompson also requires this

  8. My husband has a Luggie as well. We used it all over our European ports last fall. Cobblestone streets and all. The only place that he had a problem was at the Forum in Rome. The stones are quite large and are far apart so the spacing made it impossible to use. Other than that we used it everyday for three weeks on and off the ship. If you are going to use private excursions just make sure in advance that they have room in the car/van. We only had one issue in Livornio' date=' Italy, but we got it worked out. We love our Luggie! One of the things we love most is that he can get down the hallway even if the steward's cart is out in the hallway. He can just scoot around it. Additionally, you don't need a handicap room for this scooter. Yes the handicap room is easier, but if you can't get one as they are limited, you can make it work in a regular room. We've even used it in an inside room without any issues.[/quote']

Beware - some cruise lines require scooter users to book an accessible cabin EVEN IF it will foot through the door of a standard cabin. Check the small print as they can deny boarding

  9. You are very welcome. I also posted on this forum asking if anybody had a problem with taking a lithium battery on board a plane in China but have not had much response. It annoys me to spend $850 for another battery that won't be as good as the one I have now but it looks like I have no other choice. I really can't do the whole trip without my scooter so I am stuck.

    Wendy:mad:

We encountered this in China (Beijing) - I had 2 of the lithium batteries and they were going to confiscate them. However after 3 hours they finally relented and got the necessary permissions to carry them as "highly dangerous" cargo. They were wrapped in bags and boxes and sealed etc. It was a horrible experience and I will NEVER. Fly out of China again

  10. Currently on Eclipse - yes we have xcellerate but no - although they advertise that you can stream Netflix etc - you CAN't at this moment 4.45pm even this cruise critic forum will barely load but at least with unlimited it doesn't matter to much how long it takes. Select members get 25% off so compared with the old by the minute charges it isn't too badly priced

  11. I would NEVER leave my wheelchair/scooter outside my cabin but there has been times when I have needed to leave my chair to use a pool or hot tub or sun lounger and have been instructed to move it! Just because I use a mobility device doesn't mean my bottom needs to be firmly attached to it at all times lol. I also wish they enforced this with the cleaning carts!
