  1. Hi guys here is where we will be going and what we have planned. I'm still trying to decide what to do in Ketchikan and Victoria. Any suggestions? The days in red below are booked, my wife and I are young (under 50) and my kids are 23 and 22. We love animals as well as food and checking out local things. I heard Ketchikan is great to Kayak? Anything better to do?

The Norwegian Bliss offers an Orca boat excursion with our ship only in Victoria. We really can't decide what to do and need some suggestions.

Monday June 18th: Ketchikan, Alaska (7:00 AM - 3:00 PM)

Tuesday June 19th: Juneau, Alaska (7:00 AM - 1:30 PM) - Whale Watching

Wednesday June 20th: Skagway, Alaska (7:00 AM - 5:30 PM) - VIP Train Ride

Friday June 22nd: Victoria, British Columbia (4:00 PM - 10:00 PM)

  2. Does anyone have suggestions on the best tours for animals? Whales, Eagles, Fish, Bear, etc? Also anything we MUST DO visiting these places?

  3. Hey veteran Alaska cruise people! My family and I are going to Alaska in June, what tour is the best to take to see whales? We want to see Orca's and any other large whales.

    Suggestions?

    My cruise selections offer these.

  4. I have been to Bermuda a half dozen times previously used mopeds (always singles). My last trip to Bermuda was 15 years ago. Now I'm 65, added a little extra girth and will need to ride with my 8 year old (adopted) son. Any thoughts yea or nay on using mopeds in June when we go to BDA again?

If you are use to riding and experienced that's fine, but if you haven't been riding in a while I'd think twice.

If we rent a scooter from oleander for three days, and say the first day is sunny but day 2 and 3 is raining hard will they let you return the scooter for a refund?

I don't ride at home in the rain if I can help it and I rather not in bermuda! I have only been caught off caught off guard (too far away from home) and ridden in the rain twice in the past 20 years. Miserable experience. The My bikes handled fine in the rain as long as you were good on the throttle but its just terrible to be sitting at the light in the pouring rain trying to wipe your helmet windscreen clear.

Just rent daily then you'll be fine.

  5. Hey Everyone,

My wife and I love NCL and we love to cruise! We have hit our Platinum level for rewards after this next cruise (yay finally). The latitudes rewards program is awesome, but we think it could be better. :)

My question to all of you is what do you think the cruise lines can do to make rewards BETTER for us (the people spending the money)? Are you happy with the rewards or do you think something else better could be done?

Anyway please respond below and let me know. I do plan to get a list together with a ton of signatures and send it to NCL. Instead of being the best cruise line on the planet what if they also have the best reward program for people?!?

Here is a list of current rewards and each level

    rewards_ncl.png

Like I said above we are Platinum after this next cruise. Sure this is awesome, but after spending over $60,000 on suites and cruises I think it could be a little better, here are some of my ideas.

    - 25% off all additional sailings (sure this will take away some cash from the cruise but it shows loyalty towards people who keep sailing with NCL)

    - Make Priority Check in for Platinum members: Offer some free alcohol for us if we have to wait and food. Give Platnium members a nice waiting area with TV, wifi, alcohol, better food, etc while we wait to board the ship.

    - Allow us to bring our own alcohol on board. Sure you may not make that extra $200 off me but you sure are telling me you love me by letting me bring some of my own goodies from home. DISNEY LETS EVERYONE BRING THEIR OWN ALCOHOL!! But I don't want to cruise with lots of little kids so....

    - Always allow Platinum members on board first (with people who have suites) and get our rooms ready ASAP, we hate waiting.

    - Give us free internet access. Come on, you got over $50,000+ from us, you can give up a little wifi.

    - Take the ship pin back, nobody wants a cheap ship pin, cute idea tho. :)

    - Give us a 50% discount on a couples massage.

    - Allow us to stay on the ship and be the last to disembark if we need to, allow us to stay in the room late if needed.

    - When we have to leave give us priority and get us off the ship fast!

    - Let us wash our clothing for free.

    - Give us a better behind the scene ship tour, show us some secrets!

    - Pay our tips for us and allow us to pay extra if we were treated great.

    - Offer some surprise like an exclusive show or dinner for Platinum members.

    - Give us the best seating at shows

    - Allow us to select our seats for dinner, give us the option for window seats to watch the sea.

In other words, if we hit platinum level treat us like kings and queens, we spent all the money on NCL, shows us you love us and make us feel special. Sure the program offers some basic stuff, but nothing to make me feel great. I understand you guys make a ton of money, I mean the cruise industry is huge. How about you take a small loss and reward the people.

  6. Surprise her 24 hours before you leave! Good grief man, did you marry Wonder Woman??:D If I did that I would be in the dog house (literally!).

How would she manage to get hair done, nails done, clothes organised (and/or bought) and most important - tell her friends that she is going on a cruise again?

You will have a great time, as its a great itinerary, but I think she deserves a little more pre information.

Ok fine, I'll do it a week before.

So how about the suggestions for what to do at each port? :D

  7. I needed to enter a rebuttal to everyone stating to rent a scooter ONLY IF YOU HAVE 2 YEARS EXPERIENCE on a motorcycle or street bike.

I was in Bermuda in 2006 last and prior to that, had only rode a moped in Key West ONCE . We rented scooters in Bermuda and it was one of the best experiences I ever had on vacation.

    Why?

You can zip easily from one end of the island to the other. No waiting for busses (and when we were there, four cruise ships were in town, it was crowded, the busses were packed and drove right past you), or ferries.

Once you learn throttling and braking, it is no different than being the careful, defensive driver you have always been (I hope). Left lane driving is also easy to comprehend once you do it. Scootering is such a standard in Bermuda, bus and car drivers are certainly used to tourists who may be bumbling on a scooter. So what! Have Fun! If you consciously drive into oncoming traffic, your sense of survival needs revisiting.

You can stop wherever you want and not have to rely on a bus schedule.

You can explore areas the busses don't normally go.

No walking from a bus stops to a point of interest....or worse, trudging up those hills from the beach accesses in the blaring afternoon heat.

Breezy. Easy. Go as fast as you want minding the already LOW speed limits.

Some of the views of the sea and landscape on the more remote roads are the best photo ops I have ever had because I was able to simply stop along the road and admire and take pictures.

If you have no feel for even this smallest of adventures when in Bermuda, you are truly missing out. For me, it makes the whole vacation worthwhile, especially if you're on a budget.

I am returning to Bermuda this September and will be renting a SCOOTER!

Thanks for the post Sparks, the scooters are great fun for sure and really help you avoid the nasty buses. If someone is a pro and knows how to ride a motorcycle or scooter and has experience you'll love Bermuda by scooter. =)

  8. Hey Cruise People,

I'm LOST and need help, we have NEVER been to Europe and I plan to Surprise my wife with a trip to Rome in July (during her 40th). She has wanted to go to Europe so bad and I'll surprise her 24 hours before we leave.

Because of that I need to know what tours to book, I'm going on the Epic and we will stay in the suites up front (The Haven). I usually ask her and let her decide, but I can't now due to the surprise.

We have been on 15 cruises but never to Europe so I have NO IDEA what to do!!!!

Here is what we are doing for the cruise, what should we do at each stop?

Day Land Tours And Cruise Ports Arrive Depart Booked

Wed Rome (Civitavecchia), Italy ---- 7:00 pm 0

    Thu Florence/Pisa (Livorno), Italy 7:00 am 7:00 pm 0

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help!

    I'm 43

    My wife will be 40

    My daughter is 19

I also thought it would be nice to get there three days early and look around, thoughts? What hotel should we stay in? What should we do?

  9. Hey everyone,

I want to take my daughter (for her graduation next year) on a 12 - 15 day Europe cruise. What do you guys suggest for a ship and cruise itinerary ??

We enjoy staying in suites, love the Jacuzzi on the balcony and my wife and daughter want to hit Italy and London to name a few places.

Any suggestions on a good ship and cruise??

  10. Hey cruise nuts! We have been to Atlantis twice already and I usually book at Comfort Suites, take a taxi over and go on inside. We are going at the end of June and the ship is actually $59 cheaper than Comfort Suites. My questions is this......

If we book through the ship do we have a long wait at shore to get to the park and a long wait to get back? How is the wait time usually with so many people going?

  11. As the topic says I need a little help, we have been to Bermuda, Mexico, Caribbean and Hawaii (all more than once) and loved all the cruises. We have been on Carnival, NCL and RCI...... we love NCL and RCI, we tried Carnival 3 times and it is our least favorite (thats for another thread).

Anyway, where should we go now? Alaska? Somewhere in Europe? What do you veteran cruise people suggest?

I heard Alaska was amazing, but what cruise line and ship do you suggest? We need to book fast as we have to go next month (I didn't prepare in advance heh)..... so thanks for any comments.

  12. We went 18 months ago and although I have eight years + urban riding experience on a Scooter I chose not to rent and to be frank I was glad I didn't.

    He's why:

    1) The roads are narrow and the local drivers give no quarter.

    2) I would have been two up on a 50cc. Sorry no way powerful enough.

    3) Its more relaxing when on holiday to let someone else do the driving The buses are excellent and the ferry particularly the leg from Port to St george was really pleasant.

    4) Public transport is cheap and tickets are available just outside the terminal.

    5) My wife is inexperienced both as a rider and a pillion.

    1) Your right about the roads and the other drivers, they don't seem to like the tourist much lol

    2) NO way we would have done just 1, I'm glad my wife got her own.

    3) My wife and I really did LOVE riding and once we got use to it the scooters were fun and relaxing, plus we weren't stuffed in a hot bus.

    4) Yes public transportation is cheap but get ready for long rides and lots of stops.

    5) Your right then, the bus was best if your wife couldn't ride.

Good decision to pick the bus with this one!
